    I socket fuse on 3/4 and below services. Butt Fuse 2" and above, everything else. I have been doing this almost a year, and love it. Might even get into welding on steel distribution lines.

    Other than rushing the second fusion, you did fine. Should allow around 5 min to put any sort of stress on that joint. Alcohol or acetone is preferred.
    The pipe is that large because of the volume of gas needed.

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack 3 года назад +3

      Dont believe any fitter would wait 5 mins per fuse.. although its what the instructions say.. just like twisting a pvc weld a quarter turn then hold for 2 mins.. never waited longer than 10 seconds and i turn the shit outta it..
      And regarding your second statement.. yea... and a gas meter counts up to show usage.. you want a gold sticker to go on your clipboard or something?

      No it should last long time once the joint are cool if you cut it open you wont even be able to tell where the pipe ends and the fitting begins

    • @kirksalter
      @kirksalter Год назад +1

      No it as as the name suggests,fusion welded,the two parts become one through thermo weld at a microscopic level,done correctly you should never be able to pull them apart ,I worry about this video though as he’s not showing any preparation of the fitting or pipe ,both needs be cleaned with acetone or something similar ,he should be timing the heat cycle and cooling cycle ,he’s also not providing any mechanical pressure when jointing the two pieces ,this ok for small pipes ie 1/2” or 3/4 but larger pipes should be pulled together and held for about 5-10 minutes .

      The fusion gun should be between 450 and 550 degrees when u fuse... for 3/4 in you should keep the fusion tool on and slightly turn it for about 6 or 7 seconds and then fuse it....for 1inch like 7-10seconds...for 2inch i keep it on for 14-18 seconds

      Something tells me u dont know what you're talking about considering that is a 90° coupling. Butt fussing it's the way to go if fussing a straight line.

    • @christophergrisib8394
      @christophergrisib8394 9 лет назад +1

      Actually you can easily fuse a 90 fitting by butt fusion on 2" through 4". With a McElroy no. 14 pitbull it's cake. I have installed over 275,000' of HDPE pipeline ranging from 10" to 20" OD. We install 2" branch saddle fuse taps all of the time for air releases and commonly have to add 90 fittings for drains in our low points. Trust me that butt fusion is the only acceptable form of joining HDPE pipe in the oil & gas industry. Electro and socket fusing are not acceptable methods outside of small utity jobs.

    wow no aluminum oxide cloth or alcohol no stop watch to gage heat time or hold time and the cold ring should stay on atleast 10 mins. good thing u were not trying to get certified because u would have faild. remember this is gas line and its dangerous i would not want that pipe anywhere next to my house fused like that.

    • @jaycejackson9784
      @jaycejackson9784 8 лет назад

      You're right. But it looks like it's most likely fuel line, so 1/4 lb maybe 2 lbs tops on it.

    • @TSyoyo
      @TSyoyo Год назад +1

      Lol the cold ring does not need to stay on during cooling at all. I test these fusions every day and im telling you, you would be very surprised how forgiving this stuff is.

    • @skylerscholten4570
      @skylerscholten4570 Год назад

      Your dumb leaving the cold ring on does nothing I would say tho it’s a good idea to hold together the pipe after the fusion a bit long anything 1 1/4 up, it wants to back out sometimes

    But what does that melt look like? Maximum of 3 secs allowance from iron faces contact to socket fusion. That was about 6 seconds. Never pull on your pipe while melting, second mistake. I'd bet if you cut out that 90 it looks like shit on the inside. - certified natgas fitter

  • @jamiehubbard8753
    @jamiehubbard8753 9 лет назад

    You're not using any Isopropyl alcohol. It's a critical step. I've been trained by McElroy themselves in their Edmonton branch and have extensive experience with PE fusion. You're begging for a bad fuse.

    • @FiiSKiiS
      @FiiSKiiS 9 лет назад +1

      As someone who fuses poly pipe daily, alcohol is nice but overall, unnecessary to a good fusion. As long as the pipe is free of contaminates (dirt, mud, gunk), it'll fuse fine.

    • @jamiehubbard8753
      @jamiehubbard8753 9 лет назад

      I totally disagree. My fuses get tested and cut apart and would never put my name to a fuse without using ISO. It is a MUST and is necessary. You leave your rags on the ground. They aren't lint free. You don't allow the proper cooling times. Your posted video of how to do proper fuses isn't the way to properly fuse. Just because you fuse every day doesn't mean you are following the proper procedures. I've had to deal with poor fuses that have been in service for a number of years. The way you fuse isn't the proper way. I'm certified from 1/2" up to 24" and have fused all of the sizes inbetween. From socket to a hydraulic machine on wheels. And I won't ever fuse without ISO.

    • @jamiehubbard8753
      @jamiehubbard8753 9 лет назад

      And I've been trained by four different companies. They all specify ISO. These are gas utility companies and the manufacturer of the equipment that you are using in the video.

    • @FiiSKiiS
      @FiiSKiiS 9 лет назад

      Jamie hubbard
      Good for you. I fuse 1 1/4" to 2" every single day and in ten years have not had a single bad fusion due to the lack of using alcohol.
      While I don't disagree that cleaning with alcohol is beneficial, it's in no way shape or form as detrimental as you seem to think it is. So long as the pipe is clear of debris, it's safe to fuse for socket fusions. Feel free to test this. Fuse a few bits of pipe with socket couplers and cut them apart after cooling. You won't be able to tell the difference between one cleaned with alcohol and one without.

    • @antwhite4248
      @antwhite4248 7 лет назад

      Actually, alcohol wipes can leave a residue on pipe. Okay for an EF coupling, but not a good idea for butt fusions or socket fusions.
