I absolutely love the dark bedroom..so classy and intimate
Me too!
I love the idea of dark colors. An idea might be to consider a forrest green to being in some colors from the trees since the windows are so large. It would give one the impression that mother nature likes your choices. Just an idea.
The dark bedroom photos were beautiful!
Phil, that dark look would be amazing. It's a bold look and so different for French Chateaus.
I vote to recreate that look.
Phil, I suggest before you make a final decision that you remove all the stuff that will not be in the finished room. Once all the distractions are gone you may have a better chance at seeing how it could look and it may make it easier for you to make a decision.
Agreed! Best to clear everything out and add pieces back slowly.
Love the dark moody decor idea for the bedroom
Love the dark bedroom!!! Elegant but masculine!
His "feminine" side said pink, maybe not so dark but a heavy grey or teal!?!
Love seeing you & Lightening playing. You are thrower & catcher Phil!
You know Billy's brother Michael is one great artist to bounce ideas on re-configuring the rooms more to your liking. He has done great work things that he has worked on.
I’m a person that likes light and airy rooms with sunny and warm colours. That being said, the size of that room with its tall ceilings could certainly handle dark colours and the examples you showed were very dramatic looking. It really comes down to YOUR personal taste, Phil, and I definitely get the feeling you gravitate to darker colours.
Lightning is so happy Daddy groomed him. How very sweet.
Yep, the dark decor, I would think a lovely matt charcoal grey with a few gold frames, as that beautiful mirror already has would be perfect.
Phil if you go dark in that bedroom consider a deep charcoal / midnight sky hues. Black is a colour hard to pull off on its own, the light in there will dictate what you do in there. The mirror is your hero, its size & balance is stunning. Looking forward to this reno.
I think a dark hunter green with copper/antique gold accents would look amazing in there.
Love that idea!
Phil, what is YOUR favorite color? That is what to paint it!
The dark bedroom sounds marvelous and going through into the next room sounds great too.
I think your right, smouldering dark colours would looked fabulous in the bedroom. Deep navy would look lush. I'm sure whatever you choose will look great.
I was thinking dark navy also, maybe with pewter colored accessories.
I was thinking exactly the same. It would look great with the gold mirror and other touches of gold for a very grand room.
Deep navy or green are soothing and would provide a restful updated almost elegant feel to the magnificent edroom. Please keep the gold mirror⭐️
Personal preference would be a very dark teal, a jewel tone dark peacock blue with touches of gold would be amazing
@@miajoyce11 not green
Phil may I suggest a dark gray, black is a depressing color. Dark gray would be more in the realm with the Chateau.
I do like the idea of a dressing room. We're you planning a large bath on the other side?
Your husky will take over the channel if you let him !lol You got this Phil !
I love how he’s had more vlog time! lol! It’s as if he loves it! 😅
You have two great resources near you, Terry at Chateau de Lalacelle and Michael Pethrick. They have incredible taste and design sense. Good luck in your renovation. A new lease on lifr event, change is good!
Phillip from Chateau LaLacelle is another Chateau with an eye for inerior design and color!
another Chateau person with...
Love the kingly dark. It's beautiful and masculine.
The dark bedroom is stunning! Very masculine. I love it! Your house is really lovely, and I’m happy to see you giving it the attention it deserves. You are doing a wonderful job Phil! I love your channel and I watch every episode! Keep it going!
Ohhh...I like the "dark academia" look for that large room with high ceilings. Would certainly make it cozy feeling.
Definitely ditch the pale froufrou - dark, rich colours will make that big room feel more cosy and elegant and opulent and don’t be frightened of some more modern pieces. Less is more even in a big room so get most of those wardrobes out and move all of the storage to your dressing room
Lightening is a true beauty. Hugs and kisses him please. He is adorable. I’m sorry they asked you that question Phil. What rock have they been under. I really love the idea of a black bedroom. That would be great. Go for it. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Your thoughts are backed up by what you considered workable and favorable to your needs so go with them!
I love it when your dog talks to you!
A bold dark masculine colour scheme with sumptuous rich fabrics and less furniture would be spectacular. A deep gunmetal grey would be my first pick.
That room would look fab in black and golds with that beautiful huge gold mirror above the bed. Black walls gold curtains, satin bedding.
I think the dark would look amazing. I enjoy the dog talking too.
I love the dark, masculine look of the photos you shared. Especially the first one.
❤ the dark bedroom! Stylish, elegant and masculine!
Yessss it's going to be beautiful. Dark academia!❤
Love your dog. Thanks for sharing his antics with us. Things are going to get easier.
That’s what I was thinking, dark academia style. I’ve seen some RUclips videos about that style, gorgeous!
Those photographs of the dark bedrooms are absolutely beautiful! I would say go for that look .
Midnight blue Master suite! The room is so large, I'd frame out a beautiful bathroom & closet.
The suggestions for a darker themed bedroom are spot on, plenty of shades of dark colors. You seem fond of the red so a dark blue based gray or even a deep navy or plum would look fantastic.
I love ur dog, he is beautiful, smart and such a great boy. He must be a great companion ❤
you got this Phil! thanks for the video
Great Choice Phil ..
Couple of suggestions
1. Use a gloss white on the ceiling to the ceiling edge of the architraves this will help bounce light during the day when it's overcast.
2. Paint walls semi gloss
3. Paint the architraves and details in e actly the same colour - but go for high gloss.
4. Make sure the Gray you choose is a Warm Gray, so that it has life in it, or it will feel very depressing, and won't tome well with the rich caramel colour bed accessories.
These examples work because they are using the texture of the items as "colour" ... and the fittings, eg, glass sconces, are not tizzy ... have fun ask Micheal Petherick to help you with the styling... he has a good eye.
I love the idea of the dark and moody bedroom Phil! Your living room looks amazing now that you have painted it in the dark red, even the lounge suite fits in so well whereas when the walls were green it didn’t look right! Trust your instincts as it’s your bedroom and your home so do what makes you happy! 😊
I love the dark bedroom too. Wow I am surprised but yes love it
I love the drama that you create with dark colors like you've shown. My only thought is age appropriate color. Forgive me, I don't remember the age of the Chateau but what typically works well naturally is choosing a color from a palette they would have had at the time it was originally decorated. Whether it's a Navy or Deep Green or another color - then the features you like about the room most: the high ceilings, big windows with view, and that amazing mirror over gorgeous fireplace will stand out extra well. If you've the means I think you should just go for it Phil! Make it a space you love - dressing room & en suite as well. PS - not to embarrass Lightning too much but my cat plays fetch better than he does 🤫🤭....he looked so ecstatic, good puppy! 🥰
In the paint stores in the US we have paint cards where it goes from very light to dark. Find a one you like that goes from light to dark. For the bathroom go the light end of the card so it keeps the room a little brighter and easier to see. For the bedroom go the really dark color. Dressing room pick a color in the middle.
As a bonus grab several of the paint cards for the colors you pick. Then you can take those with you when you go to pick out things like towels, bedding etc. Lay the card on the item and decide do you like the combination.
I think you should go with a really dark green color for the bedroom to.
Definitely love the dark moody look especially that you are the man of that room. It would feel more relaxing for you and reflect your ideas for your home.👍❤️❤️
I love the dark colors. I would have never thought of it which is exactly why I have a boring, kitschy home. Thank goodness someone is an interior designer helping with suggestions for you.
Oh I love the idea of a dark bedroom and dressing room. Brilliant on opening up the doorway again. And yes there are way too many wardrobe in there! Even for this woman! lol Make it simple and non cluttered.
I think Lightening understands the game of fetch perfectly. You throw it and YOU fetch it. Lol.😂
Yes to the dark decor! Très chique!
Love the dark paint!!! Very masculine, you don’t need a frilly floral room.
Lightning is so precious! I love how he ‘talks’ with you, and how he plays like a young pup!
I love the dark colors.
The dark colors are stunning and peaceful. I love all of them.
The dark colours would be lovely! Go for it!
The yellow sitting room is so beautiful ❤
Love the colors!!! Man colors! Bachelor , seductive, relaxing, all the same time! Get rid of those ugly creatures so lightening can play!!! Nice seeing ya Phil!
Yes yes yes the dark colours are great and certainly would suit you 😊
The darker colors will be quite the cozy bedroom for you! Absolutely ❤ it, just stunning
Make your home whatever you like! Open the wall, and paint whatever color you like = it's only paint! If you love it there you go! If not, paint it as many times as you desire! Enjoy being creative!
I love the idea of changing the color scheme of the room. It is not only very masculine and dare I say "sexy", but it also gives the room a very tranquil and comforting feeling. It would be a space that I for one would love to end my day in....
Loved Lightening chatting to you❤
Love the Dark Bedroom they are Amazing 🤗👍🌹🌹🌹🍾🌹🌹🌹
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
lightening is so vocal it’s amazing, such an expressive boy, he just worships you 🐾🐾❤️
dark colours are the way to go, it’s only paint can be changed in future….go for it, your house
Love the dark bedroom colour washing idea. Dressing room might benefit from a lighter pallet though as a contrast. Love it! Go for it. ❤
Yes love the dark. So elegant and classy!
I love the framing on the wall samples. It really brings the room proportions to a better scale. Greys and sage are great contrasting colors.
Love the dark colors, the only downfall will be that imperfections will show on the dark walls much more easily. You’re going to have to be very diligent with your prep work. Good luck!
I love the dark inspiration photos. It would look amazing! I would make a luxurious bathroom on the one side and a big dressing room/walk in closet. Even if you don’t have a ton of clothes, you could put the wardrobes in there with some seating and have it be a lovely area.
Breathtaking..............I'm looking forward to watching you make this beautiful place your own.
Lightening is so darn cute...the conversations you have with him...priceless! Phil I love the 'man look' you've chosen...it's now all yours, so go for what you want friend...can't wait to see more.
The dark color drenched room would be lovely. The room is so large it would make it feel more cozy.
I agree with opening up the doorways, remove all the extra wardrobes to the changing room and only then decide on the decor of the bedroom. Make moodboards with pictures and samples of colours and textures. Then step back and make you decision. Get your friends over. Billy is fantastic with structural stuff and Michael is fantastic on the colour and decorating stuff. Use your friend's talents (it is not abuse). That is why it is so great that we are all different, we compliment each other. You're always fixing mechanical things for Billy - you have your own talents to contribute.
I do like the idea of opening up the wall/ washbasin area….
A caramel tone throughout this bedroom would make it very cozy and warm.
I could watch your dog play and talk all day. I LOVE the 'moody maximalism' look!
OMG, Lighting is hilarious with the game of fetch! Our dog was a miniature Schnauzer and was exactly the same😂😂
My husband, years ago, wanted to paint our living room a deep red! I didn't love the idea, but he's the painter so I agreed! And I LOVED it! The room had a coved ceiling which he painted white. It was stunning! And, even though the room faced north, it never seemed dark❤
You walked in the bedroom and I instantly thought very dark teal, almost black with black gloss fireplace and drapes. I had not known that you were looking at dark colors! I can’t wait to see how you design it.
That is really funny, "to get away from just myself or the dog". Good on you Phil, you are onto it. Making it your own. A change be cool. Take your time to choose new decor.
That dark bedroom is stunning...but don't ask anyone else just do your favorite colors
I think the dark colors would be stunning! Charcoal, Navy or even chocolate! Any of them would be beautiful with the gold mirror.❤
YES! JUST LIKE THE THUMB NAIL PIC ❤
A mood board can be a big help in figuring out what you like best. It's a collection of photos of that draw your eye. You can do it physically on posterboard or the wall. (Painters tape won't harm the walls.) It can be done digitally as well. As you accumulate photos you discard the least liked ones, insuring you get a room full of your best loved ideas.
This is exciting. Your face just light up when you said you were going to open the space to the dressing room, it’s an easy job. Go for it!
Dark green room with bottom panelling a light cream like what they did on Chateau Trois Cloches. It looks so classy.
Don’t feel bad, Lightning. K’eyush can’t catch either.😂 I absolutely LOVE the suggested color scheme! That mirror is WOW.
Love the dark moody bedroom quite masculine but luxurious for anyone.
If it's going to be a bedroom, one thing I personally like is dark green, and often glossy paint looks pretty special (plus it cleans easier). It's a restful colour when you need to sleep, and sets off nearly everything else. If you have or put up wainscoting, then make it the same colour as the trim and the windows (probably a white). Even though people usually think you should put light over dark, the opposite often ends up being better, especially with high ceilings. Then do a little bit of gold work and you have a work of art. Especially with that fantastic mirror. A bit of advice I got years ago that I think works is to take everything out, and only add one piece at a time until it feels right. And great idea to clear out that sink and re-open that doorway. Definitely the way to go.
The change is always good for the mind and body.
Good luck in everything.
BTW you look well.. GBU
Kiddo, Thank you so much for your videos in general but in specific today I saw an antique French telephone! Something I always wanted as a kid.
I love dark bedrooms. The light wakes me up. Here in Canada, in the summer, it gets light at 4:30a.m. My bedroom is a burgundy and that helps me sleep longer. You do what makes you happy. As you said, this is your home. You are the one who has to live here and be happy with the decor. Good luck.🤗🇨🇦
I like the suggestion for the Dark Bedroom. Now get samples when you are ready for MATTE or GLOSS. (Paint samples).
Made my day to see your fluffy frend. He just likes to run around and be goofy.❤ Love the dark look for the bedrooms. The ond with thd sculpting above the bed's my favorite. Don't make it to dark, work with some grey colours also.
I love the dark colours in the bedroom but it's your decision you live there so it's what your comfortable with can't wait to see what you do ❤
Just love it when Lightening " talks" to you!
I love the dark bedroom. With the space you have it wouldn't be to overwhelming. I also, agree with you about opening up the sink area and pushing into the next room. Good luck
I love the dark bedrooms . Very classy.
Great idea for the dressing room , would look so much better than that small cupboard without a purpose.
Love lightning he is such a wonderful companion to you ❤🎉
Anna and Phillip from How to Renovate a Chateau have a lovely dark green room. I think it could be an example of using dark tones but still having some colour.
Lightening plays fetch as well as my cat!!! Lol
The dark paneling is beautiful, very masculine but still looks in keeping with the chateau style ❤❤❤
I love that dark moody bedroom, so romantic. You can add colour with flowers (artificial or fresh).
I like the idea of making the smaller room an office/tech space and the other larger room an ensuite/dressing room.
Love the dark black/navy/ivory bedroom
Going darker in the bedroom is a wonderful idea! All the wardrobes could go into the dressing room, opening up the bedroom….And to make the room (through the tub, hehehehe) a huge bathroom/spa is fitting for that beautiful chateau. You are doing such a magnificent job inside and outside. Please keep your spirits up and believe in yourself. P.S. love your dog.
I love the pictures that have been sent in. Great ideas for your room. Love the dark color on the wall idea. I believe you explained a while ago about your personal life and please don't respond to anyone making these inappropriate comments. It's none of anyone's business. End of story! Stay safe and take care of yourself.
Since the 60s I have loved dark, spooky chateaux.
The dark and moody, also requires new, contemporary furniture. If that bed is staying then just make everything blue. Or navy, white and gold with the large mirror would also be lovely.
The room is large enough to carry a dark colour scheme. I'm not a fan of black but navy and gold or charcoal and gold for me. No matter what colour you settle on, if you find it too dark remember accents can be introduced in the form of cushions, throws, large vase, lamps, and art work. I agree to take your time deciding and check out designer photos from books and internet. I'm sure this suite will be amazing when completed and thank you for taking us along on the journey. I adore this chateau, the large windows make it for me!
