I was at a baseball game this past summer with a friend. He asks me who is on first. I just said yes. He was confused because he has never seen this skit. He kept asking who is on first, and I kept quoting this. So then an older guy walks up and starts laughing because he obviously got the joke. 😂
BRAVO now that is a memory worth keeping
Well played!
omg this is highly genious. next time i go to a ball game with friends I'll try n confuse them by quoting this skit now. thanks for the inspiration. lol
Priceless 🧙🏻♂️🗂️🎵😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How did the first guy not know you were referencing this?
This routine will NEVER get old. Classic, 100%, raw comedy
1000 times better then Larry the cable guy. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of LTCG but these 2 are much better
lol 2:10.
great stuff.
impeccable timing
I dont think people realize how much work went into getting this right . These guys are true professionals .
DUH
And they really didn’t like each other
@@varsityathlete3354really I thought they were besties?
@@chrismitchell3171 I may not be a reliable source but I do remember reading that somewhere a long time ago
Still in 2024 this is some of the smartest writing and best timing I've seen in comedy. So funny
I am really impressed in how they came up with it being the first one to do it is really difficult
@@SahilShah-bq3xe I don't know how they were able to do it with a straight face! 😂
Best comedy bit of all time. No cursing, no sexual innuendo. Just baseball and strange names.
This is quite simply the funniest routine of all time.
Not just the most funny, but the most clever as well.
Oh absolutely, I don't know how they did it.
@@geowynleda4641
It may have been inspired by the bit in the Odyssey where Odysseus introduces himself to the Cyclops as "Nobody" ("Mē Tis" in the Greek of Homer's day; "Mē Quis" in the Greek of Odysseus' day), and so when the Cyclops claims that "Nobody has blinded me", his neighbors figured he'd either blinded himself by accident or else been stricken by Zeus.
Agreed
@@geowynleda4641what’re you asking him for, he plays baseball!
Showed this to my 11 year-old and it kept him smiling - just had to explain to him what it means to sign a payvheck.
This routine has aged like wine. I guarantee everyone will still be laughing at this in a century from now.
500 yrs
@@user-ht1xu4gv2uthat’s HALF a century…………..? Or maybe it’s 5 CENTURIES…………….? Idk?! 🤷♂️ lol! ❤
@@robbymounce5764century is 100 not a 1,000 thats a millenia.
@@METALFREAK03 Gotchya! lol!
I've looked this up like once a year since I first heard, apparently Jeff Dunham did a version of this that I watched and here I am again.
This is one of the greatest sketches ever written. This never gets old as long as you hear it.
They were both entered into the Hall of Fame for this so brilliant
Thank you for sharing that fact, I wasn't even aware and now I know that they're the only Two people in the World to have been entered in the Baseball Hall of Fame without having anything to do with Baseball. That's so cool 😊
I can't imagine how an 80 year old bit is this funny. I can only assume it will still be just as funny 80 years from now.
I just need to watch this at least twice a month. The timing, the comedy, the facial expressions, etc., a genuine classic.
After 50+ years this shit is still fucking HILARIOUS!!!!! Comedy genius!!!!
so true
It isn't shit it's expression of humanity
Another reason why I wish iPhones existed 70 years ago: Abbott & Costello were sharing a nite club bill with Martin & Lewis! Having those two legendary duos on the same stage is exciting enough. But then, on a lark, the teams decided to SWITCH PARTNERS!! That lucky audience got to see Bud Abbott and Jerry Lewis tear through "Who's On First" while Dean Martin and Lou Costello ran through a Martin & Lewis classic (don't remember which one- I'm not as well-versed with their output). Sadly, however, NO ONE had the foresight to set up a camera so this once-in-a-lunchtime moment was not preserved!
That would have been amazing to see!
Of all the versions of this routine, this is the best.
All these years later and this is still hilarious.
Greatest comedy sketch of all time!!! Rest in piece Lou and Bud!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have seen this routine a hundred times and still laugh just as hard as I did the first time .
even 70 yrs later its still funny
Ike I said, I watch this every day
This is the greatest skit of all time, its not subject to negotiation!
Timeless comedy routine from Bud Abbott and Lou Costello! Absolutely genius...and probably took a lot of time to perfect it. Probably the greatest two-man comedy routine of all time!
Who ever wrote this was a genius, it must be years old as a routine but it still works. I am amazed at how they managed to do the routine without fluffing anything.
Who wrote it, when he was not playing baseball ⚾️
Now that's the first thing you've said right.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!
Somewhere on that big sound stage in the sky, Bud and Lou are just slaying them!!!
Old Man and I are old. "Who's on First" is our life everyday.
No Profanity
No Vulgarity
No Obscenity
100 % Comedy
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
They were entered into the Hall of Fame for this
I absolutely loved these two I used to laugh at them so much as a kid and after watching this I’m totally in tears of laughter
I first saw this when I was a teenager and it never gets old now that I'm an adult. They were great.
They were so quick with this so many lines ..Amazing
Never gets old. Nothing tops this, although Andy Griffiths 'What It Was Was Football' comes in a close second. Our last name is Abbott. We're in FLA at Christmas time in 2023. Just introduced my grandson to this bit. I can now die a happy man.
"An I dropped my big orange"
Bang on, my friend. Bang on. Well done.
Abbott and Costello were so funny.
Good clean comedy.
Greatest Comedy routine EVER!!! Hilarious
Like this so much. Wish we had talent like this today.
I remember I was playing Sly 2 with one of my sisters, and when we played the mission where Sly stalks Dimitri, Dimitri would always say "qu'est-ce que c'est?" I asked my sister what that meant, and she said "What was that?"' She said that about four times because I kept repeating myself. Then I realized that was the answer. We both laughed and laughed.
After seeing this so many times, it still makes me laugh! 😏🥹😅
ABBOTT AND COSTELLO'S WHO'S ON FIRST IS NOT ONLY THE FUNNIEST 😆😅😂🤣 COMEDY ROUTINE OF ALL TIME BUT ALSO THE GREATEST COMEDY ROUTINE OF ALL TIME
WHAT A CLASSIC SKIT THAT NEVER GETS OLD
Simply brilliant😂...."Whos on first" Abbott & Costello.... 👍😂🤣
This sketch is total comic genius
Nothing will ever be funnier than misunderstandings
Perfect comedic timing. Classic comedy from these two
The best stand up skit ever. These two guys were superb
Very slick performance. They were brilliant together
GREATEST SKETCH IN HISTORY.HIT THE LIKE BUTTON Y'ALL!
A classic! A true classic!!!!!
This is still one of the best comedy routines, ever written
This has got to be the best routine in all of comedy! It still elicits a belly laugh from me! 😆😆
“OOOOOOH!!! That’s our SHORTSTOP!”
Lol! 🤣 ❤
One of the all time classics
What is interesting is how frustrated Costello gets while Abbott keeps a straight face and deadpans throughout the entire rant.
Abbott is the straight man. Very common in duos like this.
@@briancrandall4482 True but it is doubtful if another straight man could deadpan the routine as well.
@@kevinmadden1645
I wonder how many rehearsals it took for them to stop corpsing in the middle of the routine.
@@KororaPenguin What does corpsing mean ?
@@kevinmadden1645
Cracking up when you're trying to act.
Way before my time, and still funny as heck!
My mom told me to look this up and I love it😂😂😂😂
Awesome comedy routine
This just never gets old
TO ME, THE ABSOLUTE BEST COMEDY ROUTINE OF ALL TIME!!!!! SERIOUSLY, 2 GUYS NEVER PLAYED BASEBALL, NEVER COACHED BASEBALL, NEVER OWNED A BASEBALL CLUB AND YET, THEY ARE IN THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME..... GO FIGURE..... MIND BLOWING!!!!!
Thank u arrival for sending me to this master piece. Brilliant
such a classic pops up every now and then since i was a kid thanks one of the best luv it 😂 master class in comedy
Something similar happened with my French teacher in school. I wanted to know what Kylie Minogue was saying during the French part of the chorus from "I still love you" (bear in mind millennials, Google didn't exist, phones were either in booths/boxes, or stuck to the wall by coiled cable, and computers were massive and clunky and for the most part black & white). The line is: "I still love you, je ne sais pas pourquoi". My French teacher kept repeating to me "I don't know why" and I kept saying "Because it's in a song and I want to know what it means" and she said "I don't know why" and I said "Because it's in a song, I've just said that!".
«Pourquoi»? Il est du champ gauche.
@@KororaPenguin haha, on point!
Naturally
Absolutely brilliant!
I love this routine. Abbott & Costello were my favorite comedians when I was growing up.
MASTERS OF IMPROVISATION!!!!!!!!
Never get tired of it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely brilliant!!
Check out "Third Base" @avenueheard
Perfection 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
almost 90 years old and still hilarious!
I loved the jokes, wow, this comedy gets better with age.
This sketch aged like a FINE WINE! 🍷 ❤
I'm in my 60's. I still love this skitt.
Never get tired of listening to this routine. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
They were both comedic geniuses.
Note that they played their skit the entire way through, without camera changes, without zooming in and out, and without shaking the camera, etc. No camera theatrics. The focus was 100% on the two actors on the stage. The result is that we got a front row seat to watch, as if we were there.
In the two season series:
Lou Costello played the role of a gullible simpleton. Scripts were written for everyone to dump on him, and he reacted and played his role to the "T".
Bud Abbott is considered to be the best straight man of all time.
The way he comes across as oblivious to all of the bad things that happen to Lou, is outstanding.
Also note that all of their scripts were 100% clean. They were gentlemen with the ladies.
Sydney Fields was also an amazing actor in the series, as was Joe Kirk.
Still leaves me in stitches! 🤣
Priceless...❤❤❤❤😂❤❤❤Thank you!
It's timeless! ✌️
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Thank you so much for uploading
Simply epic!!!!!
all time greatest !!!!!
Excellent Excellent they are the greatest
This is so damn hilarious 😂
I remember first seeing this a year after I played a summer league of junior baseball in my cousin’s team, being coached by my uncle, who’s American while me and my cousin are Aussie’s. So while we did love doing baseball together, us Aussie’s are all about cricket as well. Would love to see a similar comedy routine based on cricket as well
Damn this is still funny 😂 today. About/ Costello were legends in their comedy 🎭 era.!! Imagine 💭 comedy without profanity.!! A child 👦 could listen 👂 to this and enjoy it.!!
Love it ❤
I watch it everyday
😂 never gets old
CLASSIC 😅
The standard for all comedy!!
One of their best scenes of all time.
I saw this for the first time 1 week ago and loved it.
I love this
It never ages
This is a blast🎉
I have to thank my history teacher for showing this
“I don’t give a darn, I don’t give a darn” “oh that’s our shortstop” XD omg that ending line was hilarious 😂
Me and my friend did this skit for our Drama Class, and everyone was laughing
So many versions of this they did and all are hilarious
the best comedy routine of all time, amazing, and there movies were good as well , so glad i was young enough to be able to watch and learn
the only bit in the whole world that will never get old
Makes me think people were smarter back then when watching this.
Due to this routine getting many many people interested in the game of Baseball, Abbott and Costello are the only people in The Baseball Hall of Fame who had nothing to do with the game of Baseball.
Back in highschool drama club did this skit.
We all about died from laughing to hard. 😂🤣😂🤣😂 and im 47 years old now, its still funny major
