  • After leaving the Missouri (see previous video) we made the gorgeous drive over route 200 to Missoula, Mt to visit and do some fly fishing. We had a great morning on Rock Creek and caught lots of fish on dry flys and nymphs. Hope you enjoy the video!

    Fished Montana for 4 seasons in western southern Montana, and actually have never caught a whitefish... you hear about them all the time, and you even got some... do people eat them rather than keep a trout for the table?

      It was really nice to add an additional tool to our arsenal and I think really helped us take advantage of water that we couldn't effectively fish last year using suspension methods. We hope to get back out soon too! Thanks for watching, Craig!

    You guys make some amazing fly fishing films, nice work. I do the best I can, can be challenging filming yourself.

      Thank you, we really appreciate that! I agree, filing yourself is super difficult. I'll have to check out some of your videos. I give credit to anyone who does solo videos! Anyways, thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!

      The story is mostly about fishing the Blackfoot River (the Big Blackfoot) but much of the filming was done on the Gallatin River over by Bozeman. Better fishing.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallatin_River Both rivers are worth every minute you spend on them! Tight lines!

    Beautifully filmed in one of my favorite areas. Great fishing by the guys. When you become more efficient, you won't need a bobber, and will be truly fly fishing. Know what they call Euro-nymphing in Europe?---Nymphing.

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Hit rock creek last week with our tight line setups and had a field day bringing fish to the net (including lots and lots of whitefish haha). Thanks for watching!

      Thumbs up! If you can catch whitefish on a fly, you have the touch. I pretend they are grayling. Tight lines!

    the fish he said was a rainbow trout at 3:50 was actually a colombia river redband trout

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 лет назад

      Isn't that a rainbow subspecies? I've heard of them but never knew what the distinguishing characteristics were. Pretty neat though! Thanks for the comment!

    Awesome stuff! I can't wait to head out to MT. My cousin lives in Whitefish and it seriously looks like God's country. For your TLN, how are you rigging your system? All mono? Or a fly line to a long leader?

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  6 лет назад +1

      Definitely visit if you get the chance! We drove through whitefish on our way to Glacier and it was gorgeous! We originally started with an all mono setup but found it difficult to switch back and forth for fishing dries. We are just using a long leader now. My setup is a 9ft 0x tapered leader to 3ft of sighter to 4 to 6 foot of tippit. Seems to work okay for us since we switch back and forth so much.

    • @troutmanoutdoors2332
      @troutmanoutdoors2332 6 лет назад

      Gotcha, thanks for the response. I've been taking 2 spools with me. I do mostly nymphing here in SEPA. My nymphing spool I'll use a long leader... like 12' of 20 lb Maxima, 3-4' of 15 lb Maxima, 12-18 inches of sighter, and tippet length depending on the depth I'm fishing. This way I don't have any knots in the eyes of my rod.
      Then my other spool for when I'm throwing dry droppers or whatever has a very light WF line where I'll use more traditional leader setups.

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  6 лет назад +1

      Sounds like a really good setup! That extra spool would be handy for something like that.

    So I'm heading to Montana on the 30th of this month and plan to fish Rock Creek a few days , did you fish in one area or did you move around? Can you give up the location.

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 лет назад

      We moved around. Actually just fished rock creek today! There are literally fish all through it! Bigger but more pressures fish at the bottom and smaller but less pressured fish up top. Hoppers have started so make sure to bring some out!!!
