    the bonus of racing the train is no waiting to cross those roads 😎

      Yes. That's going to end once the railway is elevated and the level crossings removed. Riders will have to press the button and wait for the lights.

    Just caught up with this one, Martin and WOW! You made it without any wayward pedestrian stepping out in front of you to spoil the show. You were a bit naughty going past that stop sign but paid for it with the shortness of breath towards the end.
    Age must be catching up with you - much cheaper keeping fit by cycling than paying for a gym membership. At 70 I'm content with long walks to avoid lethargy. Thanks for continuing with the video onto the inner circle path. I walked from Sydney Road to Fitzroy Siding Estate back in September last year, recalling my youth with cycling and watching/riding the Fitzroy Goods back in the '60s.
    Congratulations on reaching the 10K mark with RUclips subscriptions. Hope you and family are keeping well in these crazy times. Cheers from Michael.🙂

    When I lived in Rockhampton, I sometimes raced a freight train that went along the length of Denison Street in the centre of town. It was good because I didn't have to wait for traffic at the crossroads.
    I've ridden along that bike bath you just did a couple of months ago - it's not quite Amsterdam, but at least you don't have to ride on Sydney Road!

    Thanks for the tour! This was a fun video since I am both a railfan and a cycling enthusiast. I had an extended visit to Melbourne in 2009, rode most of the suburban railway lines and cycled some significant mileage on various bike trails. I was particularly interested to cycle a bike path that crossed dual gauge tracks with unusual track turnouts. That was near the new "wheel" that was closed due to the recent heat wave which was feared to have maybe over-stressed the structure. But I digress ...

    Great job mate, living on the Upfield line for a very long time I used to do this regularly from Batman to Royal Park and kept pace the entire way on a mountain bike. I'd love to have tried on a carbon fibre racer. I wish I was still that fit.. wow

    Coming from Brisbane, it amazes me how little there is separating pedestrians from trains in Melbourne. No way we'd see a parallel bike path that close to the tracks here (or if there was there'd be a giant barrier blocking the view of the trains), very cool.

    I used to live on that house on the left that you can see at about 2:30 in the video (the park street crossing). The number of times that level cross would get screwed up and fail was hilarious. For a few months it was totally broken and each time it came down it would SMASH into the ground then go wobbling back up into the air again lol.

  • @joelcarterramadge183

    One of my bike circuits gets me onto the Upfield trail heading into the city at Batman station. If the city bound train is due at around 8 minutes when I ride past, I know the train will trigger pretty much all the railway crossings from Anstey to past Jewell so I dont have to stop for traffic!

    When the railway is elevated will the bike path be elevated as well? If not, obviously you'll lose your ability to synchronise crossing any intersecting roads at-grade with the train.

    • @Taitset
      @Taitset  Год назад +4

      On the bit they've done so far the bike track is on the ground underneath. It will be wider at least, but as you say, the benefit of riding with the level crossings will be lost.

    • @thomaszabukosek979
      @thomaszabukosek979 Год назад +4

      The widening will make a huge difference. This bike path really is terrible given the potential traffic it could take. It's far too narrow and filled with hazards. Let's hope they place special pedestrian lights that sink up and prioritise cycling...
