I think we all wondered what John's letter said, so here's what I wish it said, or better, what it was meant to say if John realized earlier what he was doing and stopped blaming Sherlock.
Luckily he did when his conscience (which he pictured like Mary) kept reminding him what actually Sherlock had always meant for him.
I decided to make another video about their relationship (and cry the whole time because I'm a masochist) because I fell in love with this song.
Honestly I have many Sherlock projects that I want to finish, and there will be also happier ones soon, but I'm a student, so please be patient during the wait!

I can’t believe it took me this long to realise !!! Mary was as smart as Sherlock was and she loved John so much. Why would she rather die than Sher? Because she knows it will break John more if Sher died than her 😭
Mary truly got the connection between John and Sherlock: John: "If I start to hug him, stop me." Mary: "Certainly not!" She got it more than any other person in their lives, next to Mrs. Hudson. I totally agree with you. She knew John would die from a broken heart if Sherlock did, that time, truly die. She also did get them back together again. When John told Sherlock that he wouldn't have come to his aid, not until he heard Mary's words on that DVD. She knew even before John knew for certain how important Sherlock was to him, even in the midst of his pain. He then realized how much Sherlock had literally gone into hell... for him. The love these two friends have for each other is truly the stuff of legend. I've read excerpts from the books and now I want to read them. I know many were disappointed with Series 4, but not me. I've been aching for a portrayal of this kind of love between men, be they straight or gay, for forever. For me, Sherlock delivered in Spades. :) The Baker Street Boys... forever.
+Janalyn Robnett Seriously, though, you _should_ read the books. Or at least, I recommend you do. Don't expect the tone to be especially similar to Sherlock, though.
Actually got the entire collection this week and began reading. Oh, I know, I realize it won't be the same, but the excerpts I read were close enough so, though I'm not expecting along the same lines, It will be an interesting read. ;)

I didn't like Mary at first time I watched this series, but later on, I really do. She was so smart and she loved John. She though (as well as John) that Sherlock is dead, and when he came back they were already in relationship. She knew how strong their connection was. She knew she'd always be the second. But still, she married John cause she did love him even if it was a little selfish (and completely normal) to stay in this relationship while knowing she won't be the most important person for him because this place belongs to someone else. And yes she died taking bullet that was meant for Sherlock BUT she did it for John. She loved him and she knew that Sherlock 's loss would break his heart much more than her loss would. It's so incredible and selfless moment, cause she sacrificed herself for the man she loved. She made John realize how much he loved Sherlock (as the 4th season was about Mary telling Sherlock to "save John Watson" cause she knew that they belong together) and so they ended up together, how it was always meant to be.
This is so beautiful. We need season 5 with confirmed Johnlock. They’re so precious together and their love for each other is so strong. Unfortunately only fan fiction can make them be together (although the fan fiction is wonderful). And sadly I don’t think season 5 will ever come. Mofftiss said that they’re busy with other shows. I’m going to miss this beautiful show. And may Johnlock be forever in our hearts.

Mark Gatiss said, that they sketched out season 5 when they wrote season 4. We need Ben to get on board. Even Martin who wanted nothing to do with it is ready to come back. SHERLOCK!!!

Oh, I was like "NOT THIS SONG!!!", it always makes crying
It’s been years, 2 or 3 years (feels like more) since the finale and DAMN DAMN you really pulled the rug out under me with this. The writer and produces might have gone one way but keys never forget the actors who put their all into these characters and the fandom that was as dedicated to this show as any. Without the actors and fandom, it would have been all for naught. It may seem that way now but I tip my hat to content creators and Mr. Martin Freeman and Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch for bringing them to life. May not have been the best but they were there.

I always liked Mary, but I knew she was doomed from the start, since in the books, Mary Watson dies. The only question was how they were going to do it in the modern context.

Nemi Alger did Sherlock shoot the gun? No. Does someone shoot a gun at Sherlock every single time he deduces someone(literally happens a billion times in every episode)? No. So no, he didn't do anything
Totally agree! Throughout the entire series John warns Sherlock of 'That showing off thing we talked about?' 'Sherlock, you're showing off again.' He warned Sherlock that showing off was not always a good thing. So, no he did not shoot the gun, but he egged the lady on by his ego. It's so second-nature of him to deduce out loud that he didn't realize he was egging the old lady on. I believe she would have lowered her gun and given up the moment Mycroft and his men appeared, but she was so prompted and realized she had nothing to lose by shooting Sherlock. He had no idea it would come out the way it did. And even Mary warned him, "Sherlock you may want to be quiet now." But he kept on. He truly had no idea how it would turn out, but throughout the series he was warned. It's why he asked Mrs. Hudson that if she ever heard him going on and on with himself to mention that old lady's name (forget it now. Nuremborg? Or something? Anyway). Yeah, even HE knew he'd gone too far with the vocal showing off his deductive abilities. She took it as a goad and she fired the shot. I get what you're saying here. Throughout the entire series.. even in the first episode when John proclaims, "That... was... amazing!" "Really?" Sherlock asks. "That's not what most people say." John: "What do most people say?" Sherlock: "Piss off." It was a hard lesson for him to learn, but he learned it. I don't think he did any showing off other than what was necessary to face the challenges Euros (sp?) gave him in The Final Problem. He did it then under deducing, not showing off, though. I'd love to see more episodes where he catches himself in the process of showing off then a look from John and he catches himself, or he simply catches himself on his own and becomes quiet. Talking to John first in hushed whispers about what he sees from each aspect of the case, before reporting to Lestrade. Sorry, I'm babbling on, but so many miss this poignant part of the reason the old lady took the shot.
