Super helpful thanks! If any revisions are made after your screenplay is registered, when is it recommended to re-register the screenplay? What changes merit a new registration? Thanks!
thank you so much for the great help! question: when I click on "View uploaded file names" it says "None" even though I successfully uploaded it. And, what does "pending" mean?
Hi Larry! This video has been very helpful. Are there any differences in this process when trying to copyright scripts for a series rather than a movie? Do you need to copyright each individual episode or the whole series at once? In the title type options I see "Series Title", so I'm not sure if that's what I should be using instead of "Title of Work Being Registered". If you have time to explain any differences in copyrighting a series, I would be very grateful. Thank you so much!
Hi Kelsee! I'm having the same problem with this. Currently have the first episode completed but wanting to know if I needed to add the rest of the episodes and submit it as one. Did you ever find the answer to your question?
@@jungdiva5493 I did, but I wound up doing the research myself! From what I've gathered, you can copywrite each individual episode separately AND you can also copywrite an overall description of the series to protect the whole project rather than just individual episodes at time. This could be anything from your series bible to simply your pages of compiled notes that cover all the details of your story, characters, series progression, and other important notes that make it unique. These would all be submitted separately. :)
I just submitted the copyright for my script but I want to start sharing it immediately. Should I wait for the copyright to go through or is it safe to start showing people?
Thanks, Larry. If I've made some additions to my script at the request of interested parties, but it hasn't changed to the tune of 50%... do you still recommend I re-register? I already re-registered with the WGA. Also, does a single screenplay fall under the "Register One Work By One Author"? Thanks, Wyatt
If it's the synopsis of the screenplay, then the copyright to the screenplay will protect the synopsis. Otherwise, you can just register the synopsis, assuming it's more than just a one sentence description (which is probably too short to qualify for copyright protection)
@@kolshack Update: I researched information on their website and found out that you can actually register up to ten screenplays as a Group of Unpublished Works.
@@kolshack Hi Larry. Is it alright to register under "One work by one Author" If you're the only one who wrote the screenplay, and meet the criteria, or is there some negatives to choosing this lesser expensive of the two.(Standard Application) Regards, Rob
You're an angel for sharing this! Just submitted and it was so easy! For anyone wondering, it's still the same process in 2024. Thank you Larry!
Thanks Fayna!
I found this incredibly helpful and thorough for copyrighting my first screenplay. Thank you!

When there are enough substantive changes that you feel there is new material in the script that needs to be protected
Hey Larry I remember you from Friday the 13th part 2 and you were very good, thanks for this !
No, that's Part 3

Very helpful. Thank you!
What about Deceased Author My Son who I want to register his work.
This is fantastic! Thank you!
If the status is closed, does this mean that I have the copyright?
What if also wrote a synopsis? How will i be able to protect it or copyright it in any way??

Can you register multiple screenplays or treatments with only one fee?
No. The Copyright Office will want you to pay for each one.

How much do you have to pay?
It's usually $45 or $65. The copyright office will let you know
Correct me if i'm wrong, but they became more expensive througout the years. It used to be 35$. Now it's 65$..
Yes. They raised the price since I made the video

Saying "this page" isn't all that helpful.
