Lovely video! I really want to get into Russian literature. I’m thinking of starting with Notes from the Underground, Crime and Punishment or The Master and Margarita

How engaging, your take on these books! I will certainly watch you more as the time goes by. Do you know, I thought after reading " the diary of a madman "( I have this edition in hardback) anyway, I thought, this must be where Steve Martin got his stuff" ! Get a copy of his "cruel shoes" and you'll see how he could have been really affected, and developed his form of humor from Gogol, the master... well, take good care of yourself, and thanks for such a great review, AL

Hi Caitlin, the algorithm sent me this way.
Loved your video, that's a lot of Russian literature for one year - fantastic. As an aside I also love your top/jumper
I agree C&P is fabulous. I've not got round to Gogol so perhaps I will this year with your recommendation.
Dostoevsky is the boss. I also love Turgenev and Tolstoy

I picked up 28 Russian classics and am so far 2 in, Sketches from a Hunter's Album by Turgenev, and A Hero of Our Time by Lermontov. So far so good. Sketches was incredible. Best wishes with your reading choices and to your channel. Just subscribed.

i’ve read almost all Dostoyevsky’s short stories and i found them kinda blunt. My favourites were the meak one, a faint heart and white nights. I feel like most stories were experimental and very Gogol inspired. i’m planning to start “dostoyevsky and i” written by his wife soon and im excited!
Also someone reading Turgenev omg!!! i LOVE him. probably my favourite russian. Even tho his stories are tragic, they warm my heart. i want to read all his bibliography ahh
You made me so excited to pick up Anton Chekhov’s plays. I have the same edition. hopefully next month😄
Do you plan to read Tolstoy’s short stories too this year?
i’m so happy i found your channel, your taste in books is immaculate!

Oooh I didn’t know Dostoevsky’s wife wrote anything, I’ll have to read that!
Yesss I love Turgenev!! Hoping to read Fathers & Sons at some point this year!! What’s your favorite of his?
Ahhh so excited for you to read Chekhov! Lmk what you think of it!
Yesss I have a HUGE collection of Tolstoy short stories that I’m excited to get through. Not sure if I should start with those or go for War & Peace first.
So glad you enjoyed the video 💕

@@jibby1986 yes I do! Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky are my favorite, they translate the Penguin Random House vintage classic editions

Great list. War and Peace and The Brothers Karamazov are better than those you read this year. Enjoy them!
