Ian Miller, Tony Ackland, Martin McKenna and John Blanche. They are my favourite fantasy artists as a kid growing up in the late 80s. And together these 4 really created the aesthetics of early Warhammer Fantasy, particularly the Enemy Within campaign. I love their art. Sad to hear of McKenna taking his own life last year.
Amazing artist Mr Miller, never ceased to inspire me ever since childhood. I find it quite intimidating to put pencil to paper when I think of the works of Ian Miller, John Blanche and many others, because I feel i do not have the drive and dedication to create images of such fantastic beauty. So it was rather jarring to hear him say he finds drawing hard!!!
He also said just do it and don't think about it. I found it inspiring that he stopped throwing things away. I guess it true that the only mistakes are the ones you don't learn from.
Miller's work was one of the main reasons I got into Warhammer in the 80s. It just provokes so much thought and emotion! Eagerly waiting for his Grim Tarrock to arrive
This guy represents a level of creativity and complexity which no longer seems to be present in modern fantasy. His work along side that of John Blanche gifted Games Workshop an appeal which has been replaced by CAD and a stolen World of Warcraft aesthetic. I wish I could find a modern-day alternative. What a great chap!
I've been a fan of Ralph Bakshi's wizards since I was 5 (circa 1989), and loved the backgrounds, then a few months later, the same Aunt who introduced me to Bakshi and was a huge Tolkien fan introduced me to Tolkien and her copy of A Tolkien Bestiary by David Day which has some of Ian's most amazing work...although his style is completely different, he reminds me of Alex Grey in that his style is utterly unique and completely unlike anything else in existence... If Ian Miller did Tattoos, I'd want him to cover all my appendages
His art, imagination is what got me hooked on the Fighting Fantasy book series and then later WH40k. Now i realise I could have done without the other junk and just collected his work. I'm still struck by the originality of his interpretations of worn out fantasy tropes.
Helpful interview indeed! I have never seen an Ian Miller interview before, didn't know it was pronounced EEH-AN and not I-AN, and also had no idea what he looked like. I have been amazed by his breathtaking creativity and attention to detail since early childhood.
l wish l know how his head creates these things, or where he gets his inspiration. Or if it is totally corrupted by chaos gods, and struggles every day no to descend to madness...
What a legend. This guy is responsible for some much of the original chaos Demons and it’s just a small part of his portfolio.

Sad news indeed. But Ian is still creating and going strong.

He is a remarkable artist. His latest works are both challenging and VERY cool.
One of the greats of fantasy art. One of my top 5.
A truer word never spoken.

He is a great artist and gentleman.
Since the early 80s, he's been one of my faves.
Glad to have been able to show you his work here.
As someone who has practiced traditional art on a very technical standpoint for at least 13 years, this man is intimidating as all hell.
But as he says. Just pick up your pen and keep drawing.
I remember his work on a few Ray Bradbury pocket book covers when I was much younger and marvelled at the details.

Stephen Carter why not check out Lovelock Art on Facebook, it’s like a mashup between Ian Miller and M.C. Escher
100% agree. Digital art can be so lifeless.
Huge fan ever since seeing his work as a kid in Magic the Gathering and Tolkein books from mid 90s !
I have always loved the art of Ian Miller, i loved watching this video interview .

I am sure he has created tattoos. How big an appendage may be the issue. Thanks for watching.
Loved his Lovecraft covers.
All his work is unique. His latest Abstract stuff is out there.
This was Brilliant
, Thank you!
Thanks. Ian is an inspiring artist but also a genuine adventurer. He just enjoys everything.
I love his work!
Glad you like the work. He is an amazing artist.

His latest work is also pushing the boundaries. He refuses to stop creating new and exciting work.

Awe is the word!
One of the great illustrators I have met.
Love the music (Tim Garland - Five Legged Spider) but can't see it on anything else but a digital only compilation
Fantastic art.
Love Ian Miller's work. Irritated by the non-stop intrusive music in this video, though.
I don't know if it's him, but if it's him, I met him on his yt channel or on someone else's channel where he makes bizarre animations.
Think it was called captain tardagrade. Can be found on you tube.
Definitely a different person but both Ian Millers are super talented!
@@xcryptopsyx are we sure its a different person?
@@gasstationgroceries The youtube animator is an american who used to work for adult swim.
Same here, after whatching this video i don't think it's the same person.
whats the songs name?
you’re so annoying please just shut up
Legend.
A visionary artist and immensely talented draftsman.

Great interview but that music.... 🤔
Sorry. I thought it worked well. My bad.
Have to rake in his bins lol
I have Loved Captian Tardagrade like a Father Figure, he shows me the difference between Compasshin and Psychopathism
Captain Tardagrade was really odd. Very entertaining.
I like his Warhammer 40,000 stuff
I would look at his latest work. Is good stuff.
Amazing but could have done without the music .Interested in what the artist had to say--not the noise.
People have said that. I like the noise.
Here from ulthar
He looks a lot like the people he draws
But he is a lot more congenial.
Music is also art. Sorry it offended. My personal preference is to.use music and can't help myself.
Bruh you could have used a less intrusive song jesus the music doesnt fit
I loved the music, really fits with his art
@@sapete1980 what is the song name??
@@eyesontheinside5776 I will find out for you.
@@eyesontheinside5776 the song is titled 'annoying af jingle' by Sir Laurence Annoying Bollocks
Should have hired him for elden ring .
He would have been brilliant. His work is currently in a cupboard in the Brighton Open Market.
