Whatever happened to good films being stand alone classics ? Not everything needs a sequel, Is this because modern writers don't have any original ideas ?
It's a combination of like 3 things. 1) Studios are run like hedge funds now, and they know just enough about the law of diminishing returns to know that they can treat recognized names (IE: Beetlejuice) like a guaranteed ROI as long as they work within certain parameters. 2) Yes, they have no ideas. This still sounds way better than the early patches for sequels right after the first movie, and I am sure the relative success/popularity of the Beetlejuice musical has generated a whole new audience that will appreciate the movie. I‘m definitely going to go and see it in the cinema, and if it‘s a bit raunchy and cheesy, that‘s great. It would be odd if they just tried to copy the style of a 1988 movie 1:1.
I assume the story will be about a diverse, characterless young girl humiliating, emasculating and insulting Beetlejuice until he ultimately dies in a comic and embarrassing way and she takes over his mantle, like every other god damned movie of the last 5 years.
I am not expecting as an amazing film like the original. I think Beetlejuice 2 has the potential of making a decent success at the box office. Hopefully it will prove solid crowd pleaser.

Very much looking forward to this I do agree it sounds like it could use some work to it.
