It sound so perfect, it doesn’t even sound real in the original recording.
Yes
Yes
It's because when you haven't heard the original, despite hearing the sound so much, you'd think that it would be fake
Lmao 😅 facts
It's like with the Roblox "oof"
Feels so... wrong
That guy was so offended by the "Ow" 😂
You've heard the ow before too. They kept and used it.
@@TheBeeseik😂😂
“No, no, not the fucking “ow” again, Wilheim. Gimme something I can use. Gimme pain!”
@@AdlerPostHC*stabs his leg* “there ya go!”
Fun fact: the Ow would later be used in cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 where Flint’s lab coat exploded and the ow would be heard
at this point the wilhelm scream is it´s own actor on itself and has probably been in more movies than any actor in their career
Wonder what it’s IMDB would look like
John Cena's in more movies
LOL!😅😂
Easily
Kevin Bacon. Hello?! 😂
this actually filled a deep hole in me i’ve always wondered where it came from and why it’s used so much. I could recognize that sound in a crowd of people screaming
💀
It filled a deep hole in you? 💦 😭
it never fits
Exactly how deep was this hole 🕳 in your body and was it pleasurable? Is your wife aware of the heavenly hands of your neighbor too?
filled a deep hole in you, eh?
Thank god the guy asked him to do a "real scream" instead of going with the first try
Imagine how different the world would be if they’d went with the first one
@@Mr.Lubbox-Lobsterlegz1Stormtrooper falls down reactor core: "Ow."
Both takes are iconic
No. Thank the guy that asked.
@@positivelynegative9149 User name checks out (in a couple of different senses of it)
The one scream that all films have in them to honour this iconic moment.
It even appears in a few series like Money Heist
Filmmakers literally memed it into existence before the internet does....
It was the original meme…
@@JonathonNarfheadYou goddamn right! GUYS! WE DID IT! WE FOUND A LEGITEMATLY FIRST OF THEM ALL! 🎉

Yeah somewhat ruins the emersion given how much it is spammed.
@@ThermicLightdefinitely. Once I hear it, it takes me right out.
I think the most iconic thing about the wilhelm scream is that it’s extremely unique. I’ve never heard a human being scream like that before, and I’d even say it’s nearly impossible to replicate. It’s such a specific sound.
There's a little crack at the end there, I wonder if that was intentional or no
Fr
The only scream that comes close is Tom's scream from, well, Tom and Jerry.
I've not only heard anyone who genuinely screams like that nor can replicate it.
Yet they put it everywhere
the man who got eatn alive by a bear made similar screams
Hearing the actual recording session for that sound is honestly amazing
I think it's so cool that something as miniscule as a scream in a movie can have an entire history. I love this.
It literally in battlefield 1
Not just in a movie I've heard it in the last 10 movies i watched
@@FriendlyNeighborhoodGayGuy I feel like I hear it at least once in every movie😂😂😂
Everything has an entire history
@@bubblelady8528 Of course. It's just that this particular thing is something that a lot of people wouldn't have even thought about researching, let alone guessed had such an extensive history as it does. But I'm sure everyone knows that was the point of my comment.
What’s crazy is that, even during the live version, it still sounded like a sound effect.
Wilhelm: *screams*
Director: "no no a real scream"
Wilhelm: *proceeds to make the most iconic moan ever*
Lmfaoo
The funny thing is both of the screams iconic cuz the first one's been used before too. I've heard it many times
@@captainfordo6142yes
@@captainfordo6142where did you hear it first? The sheets or the street? 🎉
Beautiful.
This is in TONS of movies once you know about it. You will hear it all the time. And there’s a hospital one too, like “Dr. Blair, call for Dr. Blair”, that you will hear in every hospital scene.
The doctors are in the beginning of eyes of a stranger by queensryche too. Great song
@@user-pj9vp4fg2i and Naughty by Nature’s- Everything’s gonna be alright intro
It’s like a little celebratory thing in my fam. When we hear it in a movie we’re like “YEAH!!!” lol
Ha! My brother and I be like that as well
Im like that with the Wilhelm scream and the car crash sound effect, its just a funny little easter egg to me every time
Whenever I hear it, I look like that one Leonardo di Caprio meme where he's pointing at the tv.
I was like that when I was rewatching Kungfu Panda and heard it when Thai leopard dude was escaping prison
In my family we do something similar, whenever we hear it someone will shout "oh no they got Wellhelm!"
Wilhelm needs an oscar!
Sadly, he passed away years before we can fully award or credit Sheb Wooley for his iconic scream
His wife is still alive tho. She helped confirming the scream was her husband's scream
Thank you yes I do
Fun fact: The noise we associate with a frog "ribbit" is only found in 1 species, the California Bull frog. Because when they started transitioning from silent movies to sound and needed atmospheric background noise; they recorded near the studio to save money.
Why did i instantly hear the ribbit sound in my head
Well I live in California and have never heard a frog make another noise cuz those little jumpers are so damn common this is news to me
Rip that voice actor. Bros died in countless movies
This scream is so iconic, the only time I think it was ever poorly used was in the Yogi Bear movie when Yogi gets a pinecone in the eye. It really sticks out like a sore thumb when it's not used on a background character.
@ilija.dunatov dude I was just playing that yesterday and heard it
Okay I feel you how the scream doesn’t fit the movie, but I remember laughing so fucking hard at that pinecone moment as an adult with a film degree. Something about how out of place it was yet still funnier than other scream that Yogi could’ve made.
In every movie I watch, I'm on the look out for that scream. It kind of makes me happy when I hear it lol.
Out of the billion possible sounds that could've cemented itself as the default scream sound for films, I'm glad it was this one.
And that day….History was made.
Stormtrooper: *Wilhelm scream*
Pity every Star Wars movie didn’t feature a Wilhelmina scream

The 'OH' is also iconic lol
Lego Star wars
I’ve heard the oh one, from goldeneye 64 it really depends on where they are shot at though. And a few other old games.
@@battledroid7628I thought i heard it there! thank you for confirming it for me lol
I think I heard it in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, during the vesting ceremony scene.
'OW' actually
It is so iconic that films today still use that sound
It feels so natural in the scene it was made for, like I get it’s supposed to but it just sounds so good there
Thats so true. It sounds goofy as hell in nearly everything else but in the original... It just makes sense lol
Every time I hear that scream in any movie my appreciation to the movie greatly increases lmao
My favorite side hobby is being sent into laughter every time a serious drama violent movie Wilhelm screams
Even if it shows the original, I still can't believe that it's real due to its iconic sounds bro
I've been trying to explain my theory of that sound to people for years now, but I couldn't find it anywhere except in reference to Star Wars---Thanks for this video!
I also heard one in Machete and iirc Django unchained had one too.
I just heard it in the Wizard of Oz also
Theory?
I've heard the scream in sharkbite on roblox
Lord of the rings has it in a couple different scenes I'm pretty sure
The first "Ow!" scream is used as death screams in the Star Wars Bounty Hunter game as well.
Oh shitttt that's trueeee
If the actor who did that scream today he would get big royalties like Rick Astley.
Don't worry, Sheb Wooley made bank on Purple People Eater.
@@ordinarykthat song is top tier.
Ah yes, this sound and the "MY LEG!" When I was playing sharkbite as a kid
Never even noticed that before. But, dammit! Now I can't un-hear it. Thanks a pan-load Jon.

the scream or who did it?
@@Mr.__Sofi The scream. I'm sure I heard it. Just didn't realize it was in EVERYTHING.

I've always called it the Star Wars scream because that's where I first heard it! 🤣
Lol for me hmmmm videos so l call them THE BEST THING OR WGAT BUT LOL
It's funny that both noises he made were used in things like Star wars not just one of them
I remember hearing it for the first time in Star Wars but I always wondered how it was made. This was cool. Thanks for letting us all know
New headcanon, the Wilhelm scream is a guy who is constantly being transported between movies and other media and every time he dies and screams, he gets transported into a new movie or media.
One eyed, one horned, flying, purple people *Wilhelm scream*
I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices reoccurring sound effects across movies.
And on that day the Clan of Wilhelm was born, but also terribly cursed
The scream is such a key part that it’s need to be in every movie without the scream it just doesn’t feel right
Finally an explanation, I can die peacefully.
To think that scream has traveled for decades traveling through so much history it's insane how long the scream can last
Sensational
Did you know that the first laugh tracks were recorded in the 1950’s so every time you watch a TV show with a laugh track you’re most likely hearing dead people laughing
FANTASTIC KNOWLEDGE! I WANT MORE OF THESE SOUND CLIP ETYMOLOGIES
I like how "ow" is his first reaction to getting bit by an alligator.
Sheb Wooley was an actor, singer and songwriter. He appeared in many movies, and as a regular in the western TV series "Rawhide". 😎👍
if the Wilhelm scream was recorded today: "OW"
"I said a real scream"
"I'm bouta Cuhhhh"
as a huge star wars fan, i call it the stormtrooper death noise
And in Jabba's layer when Han Solo's chocolate starfish was l¡_ked by Chewbacca.
This scream cracks me up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Wow! So that's where it came from! Thanks, Jon! 😃
It is the perfect shout of unexpected and painful finality.
If you listen to it enough, it becomes musical 🎶
It’s so iconic it sounds edited in rather than the origin to me
My kids just noticed this same scream used in funny animal videos and stuff also popping up in Lord of the Rings and they had a proud moment saying it "Oh, _that's_ where it came from!"
For SoMe ReAsOn this short popped up and has helped me explain the real origin of it, so thankyou! :)
And *stop listening to me, RUclips.*
It's really creepy how that happens lol
The recordings of the OW and the scream were both used in a scene from Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 and listening to this knowing they used the 2 sounds is amazing! These sound effects will be used in movies till the day I die 😂
Wow ... I have to admit, I DID always wonder where it first came from ... AWESOME clip!!!
It took 7 years to finally find the origins of this scream
I always wondered, thank you! Now I have to watch that movie.
This is what stepping on a Lego brick actually sounds like
Yes, I do know where it came. Saw it at my filmhistory course.
Fairly certain it's a rhetorical question.
The fact that the original session was shown here makes me happy
i like to imagine the “Damn son, where’d you find this?” was created in a similar manner
At the end its funny to note that the "ow" scream was used in star wars for Clones who died while the other more iconic scream is used for Stormtroopers.
Warner bros is truly a G.O.A.T
Little did he know that scream would go on for decades
I’ve been wondering where this came from for years lol
And then there's the Howie scream, which used to scare the bejeebus out of me as a kid
I swear I heard it several times in Lord of the Rings
it’s used in LotR at least 3 times! we included those clips in the extended version of this short which you can find on TikTok/IG
now that sound wont leave my head X_X
Was it used in Two Towers too? When the elf fell from the helms deep scene? No?
I think so. Definitely somewhere in LotR.
When something that is unrealistic becomes so iconic that it's good:
I love that it’s used in big name movies as well. Including Star Wars and Indiana Jones. As well as thousands of other films.
Thanks alot. I've been looking for this scream sfx forever
I heard that same scream in so many movies but never knew it's origins. Pretty cool!
That sound needs a lifetime achievement award!
Man its being used in so many movies and cartoons bro its unbelievable
I always wondered why I would hear that scream everywhere but never knew where it came from.
You mean to tell me that this scream has been use for the last 72 years, THATS BASICALLY MY WHOLE LIFE
That "ow" could've been the "Wilhelm Ow"
His 1st "scream" sounds like a 007 enemy getting kilt
It’s still used once in a while that’s the best part
Its so weird to think its an actual person making that sound
amazing the full take is so cool to fully hear. i want all kinds of stuff through history that’s just scrap recordings or audio and random toss away things like that. that’s what i feel is the real small marks in history. ( to tired for grammar, apologies.)
The world changed forever when Wilhelm did a scream. Just like when Gary made a mod 🥹🥹
The fact that the conversation in the studio sounded like they were talking about "the black beast of AAGGHHH" LOL
Holy shit this man just solved my childhood mystery
Thank’s to that director the Wilhelm scream doesnt sound like someone stubbing their toe lightly
as long as i live everytime i hear that scream i will picture that stormtrooper falling into the hole, poor guy was just doing his job for the empire 😢
That sounds effect will never get old
Ever
I like how movies will layer and distort the scream to get it into parts that aren't even appropriate for it.
I hope it will forever be there in movies
Fun fact: IIRC the first character who used the scream was named Private Wilhelm.
So cool hearing the original recording.
This sample was used in desperado and once upon a time in mexico too
the “ow” sounds like a happy wheels sound
The man who made that sound probably didn't get a single residual check for the dozens of films his voice was featured in.
