With proper cave or just confined space rescues, that isn't usually a problem because power tools. Rescue teams have things like collapsible stretchers that casualties can be strapped into and hauled out on though. Most important thing is like Matt said, making it harder for people to accidentally or intentionally wander into places they shouldn't be.
Matt, you have an iPhone (saw it with you in the video), open the measuring app (built-in), it uses the lidar on your phone to measure things, for large openings like this, in my experience it’s accurate within a quarter to half inch, which is great for getting a rough size quickly in a pinch. Much better than using your feet!
We will worry about the welds later, for now lets start with rectangular tubing. If you would have stood it on edge rather than lay it flat it would have much less flex 😉

many many many big gaps all over these grates to allow bats in or out. I bet a football can fit between the tree and that hatch.
Matt! how long do you think this project will take to finish?! please responde I am very curious on your thought about it. I been watching you and every video on all channels. I am just super CURIOUS! GET this likes! We need to know what you think how long it shall take... I say 2 years prior to when you started.
Sometimes, its gotta be hard to be Matts friend :)
You need hand help GPS device to mark areas of interest. A good survey for your resort will not only be useful to you and staff, but also first responders in case a guest is lost or injured.
I'd be more concerned for rattle snakes over a bear. That bear heard you huffing and puffing a mile away and was headed in the opposite direction!
Rattlesnakes will actually leave you alone as long as you don’t get in their space, water moccasins on the other hand will actively pursue you, they hate anything that moves….been chased by a few as a kid in South Texas.
@@HEXU77All very true, although rattlesnakes while molting will be very defensive and strike at any heat source they find threatening. I know. I was on the wrong side of a snake strike. It never buzzed, and I only saw it after it hit me.
@@jgt4862 Dang! Sorry to hear that Bud, hope it wasn’t too excruciating! I didn’t know that, thanks for the info!
Matt, your Resort could have some AWESOME Rockcrawling trails. That’s a very hard thing to find in Texas.
Gotta keep donut from getting lost in your cave
Donut has been all deep in Matts cave, he isnt gonna get lost. LOL
I have been carrying a little 10 ft Stanley tape measure since I can't remember when. About inch and a half square. Fits in pocket. Really handy.
After all that trouble getting the grate to the cave, it makes you wonder how did they get all that concrete there 40 or so years ago.
Big bags on the back, a bucket and uh water somehow? That's if they built it there, if it was a slab made somewhere else, then helicopter maybe? XD
Don't underestimate people 40 years ago, when common sense wasn't the same and safety wasn't invented yet
I bet 40 years ago when that place was busy, they had several decent paths and trails that were easily accessible. They are just overgrown now maybe?
@@warrenmichael918 yes yes they are, it was a guided, cave.
Great job Matt ...Take care and feel better ❤
Imagine what the people went through to make the concrete over the cave!
It's good for your wife she got a one-of-a-kind I think you're a super nice guy.. you seem to be super smart very funny loyal kind to your friends and strangers all in all I think you're great❤❤😊😊
I was getting so worried about you guys thank god you are okay
Worried why?
@@bowed305Probably because there have been no videos for a while
@@railasvuoNot sure why people get worried when folks take a break from posting videos for a bit, especially during a holiday season. He stated he'd be taking a break to spend time with his family, but if even he didn't, it would be safe to make the assumption that no videos posted is due to family time and resting. Why do people choose to worry? Why not assume the best? We get to decide that.
@@bowed305 I do not know either
I would put a steel "A" frame over the entrance in case you have to get in the cave for an emergency rescue. That way, rescuers have a good anchor point. Make it look like a swing set frame.
You know what they called the guy who was last in his class from vet school? Dr Matt
Man u need a nice flat welding table, put it on castors with brakes so u can move it around shop, beats layin on floor and burn marks on ur nice shop floor 👍 love the ranch series and dont ever get rid of mikey,
I like your caring thoughts. God bless you.
Love the video, Matt! But Rule #1 is and always shall be "Don't tell Mere." But a close 2nd can be no weld inspections. Keep up the good work!
