And here you have it. My favorite TOOL song. If you held a gun to my head and said pick one from TOOL, this is it.
🔫 pick one from Tool
I'd agree with you on that... with about 10 songs coming in a close second. But I have to give the nod to this one.
You'd have to shoot me, I can't pick just one they're all so good. And it changes all the time. Right now it's right in two
Really?
lets hope that don't happen lol all the songs are just too good for us to just pick one. def on my top 10 at least haha
"Falling isn't flying
Floating isn't infinite ..."
I just love that
This song made me cry the first time I heard it. You can feel the ebb and flow of life in this piece. Purely AMAZING!
🙋♀️
I wept.
same!
That gong crash at the climax of the song freakin gets me every time! 🤘
The gong crash and the few "fuck your third eye it's getting pulled open if it isn't already" notes to begin the 3rd solo ❤
Every. Fucking. Time.
I replied to a comment on here with this, but I wanted to make my own comment saying it because I feel pretty passionate about it.
For me, I first heard this when I was going through withdrawals from quitting opiates/heroin. It really helped to boost my willpower to stay strong and hold my resolve and desire to quit. I will have 2 years clean in July. I was in a pretty dark place mentally, and these lyrics seemed to be speaking directly to me. So...thanks Maynard?
One of the most difficult things ever. Congratulations.
As Maynard has said, use the drugs to get you there the first time, then spend the rest of your life trying to get back there without them.
@@deadohiosky1701 opiates take you to a place you can never reach on your own. His advice was more in regards to hallucinogenics.
@@jeffglidewell102 I don't recall him differentiating, but I'd have to find the specific quote I'm referring to. I believe it was in his biography if I'm not mistaken. I only have the audiobook version.
Descending is the crown jewel of the album.
It's Mona Lisa.
For me, it's a virtual tie between this one and Pneuma. Whenever I'm listening to either one, I'm thinking, "This is as good as it gets!"
@@PongGod the 2 best tracks on this.. imo
@@PongGod of course Pneuma is completely amazing, but I think vocally and lyrically Descending is superior.
@@PongGod It’s just an astonishing piece of music.
First time I listened to this I said ok, second time I went hum! Third time I went WTF and now I think it’s one of their top 10.
Absolutely! This is an amazing song!
My favorite track on the album. Got that opening stuck in my head all day after the first time I listened to the album.
After about the first few months this became my favorite track off the album.
Killer song!!
Same!. I did that with the whole album actually. first listen through I'm like, ok thats decent. then I noticed more and by the 3rd 4th time i'm like, This is so deep and musically brilliant it melts my brain!!!!!
I don't know what he does but Adam Jones comes up with sounds I've never heard from anyone else and they are freakin FIRE!
Is it ok if I emphatically agree with your comment?
He really makes that guitar sing so emotionally! The only other guitar work that makes me feel so much like that is in Pink Floyd's music.
I took 2 g of shrooms and had this album playing at my peak. It was incredible.
I took a tab last night and listened to the album. Then damn near had a spiritual experience
@@crankyanker2682 did you remember your pen?

Yeah, he's easy on the eye's.
The lyrics are very meaningful especially current day. Culling voices is Maynard's best time to shine but I love this one too so much.
CV is unfortunately my least fav on the album, though Maynard sounds pretty good at times.
I have an exam in 1 month - I can bring whatever I want at the cost of connecting all the subjects we studied at school. I chose Dissociation, and the need to wake up in the era of illusions. My exam will evolve all around this song. It is just too beautiful.
If you enjoyed Adam's solo here, I think you will really like "7empest". Can't wait for your reaction to that song.
Yup. He should strap himself to the 🪑 for that one. 😅

@MrBonniesdaddy Nothing wrong with an honest opinion.
@MrBonniesdaddy I thought that the first time I heard the album, but I really really started enjoying it later
@MrBonniesdaddy I've never listened to Flood. I don't really like Undertow that much.
@MrBonniesdaddy complety agree
The best rock album of the decade hands down.... You're witnessing greatness my friend
We are so focused on who we "are" that we just forget being. Now more than ever we live in in the era of illusion. I have suffered and still suffer of dissociation, and this song really has helped me connect more with everything and everyone, therefore with myself. I refound an empathy I had lost - or never had.
i wish you all a very pleasant happy and conscious state of existence
Well said...time to disassociate from the ego and reconnect with our soul
My favorite tool song at the moment. It's about how our planet is descending and we all have to do our part and fight to save it. IMO.
A STORM is COMING!!!!!!

@@jeffglidewell102 That's great to hear man, amazing how Tool has the capacity to inspire people!!
But it's a lie. The earth is forever, without end. What's coming soon is the destruction of all evil
@@jeffglidewell102 congrats!
Descending, for me, is the bands way of taking us on a journey into the underworld. Time to find our power.
Those harmonies at 12:32... goosebumps, every time.
I hear Adam's old Iron Maiden roots coming out in that part.
When they play live, this song has the best lightshow.
When Danny hits the gong all hell breaks loose 😅🤘 fantastic live moment, still have goosebumps when I think of it
@@jrgdrumsandwatches the lasers that shoot straight out into the crowd. The lights that are angled to make a pentagram in the smoke. It's all good.
The lights went absolutely nuts when they played this but I can’t deny that Pneuma had an equally insane lightshow
@@IHamilton9320 yeah during Pneuma the snare hits before the last chorus were in sync with a strobe that blinded the crowd. Hype as fuck.
I was mad they didn't play this song at the 2 shows I went to
My favorite on the album. Danny's drumming is as always mind-blowing, Adam fantastic, Justin fantastic, Maynard... fantastic! Sorry I have no words it's sooo good : ))
I second that
"I feel like these guys could score a science fiction/horror movie."
And I would watch that movie.
Their videos are just that
@@monkeybrainstew7115 Music videos, even Tool, are short and usually devoid of dialogue. I was speaking of an actual movie.

@@monkeybrainstew7115 There's a reason we don't make silent movies anymore.
@@anthonymiele4320 no. Technology is why. They'd have had sound, but they didn't have recording equipment yet. Charlie had dialogue. You just had to read it, not hear it. I was hoping you'd catch me on that. I'm not mad, just disappointed
Straight up wept for Humanity for 30 mins the first time I heard this.
This is the album that i loved the less at first listen.
And now after multiple listens is the one i love the most.
Really LOVE the bass at the end of the song. Adam is incredible at paraphrasing his own riffs, which I think is what you meant by it always evolving.
Just found your channel a few days ago. I dig your insight on the songs you react to. And you said you like a good guitar solo???? Can't wait till you get to 7empest then.
probably my favorite song on the album and top overall
"Wow. Shit. That's a lot of music. ' 😂😂😂
Something cool that stuck out to me was the water/ocean sounds at the beginning and ending of the song. Maynard is like Noah, warning of the impending flood. Learn to swim.
A few months back Adam’s Instagram had a video of waves slowly reaching the shore. Definitely seemed like the sample they used here.
To me, the ocean is part of the meaning, as our oceans are being depleted and contaminated...amazon forests
Burning... Maynard said someone of high stature told him the planet has 400 years left. Sound the dire reveille
Adam Jones just stylin' all over the fucking place on this album.
This song is great but all the way thru it, feels like I'm falling down Alice's rabbit hole. It just keeps dropping but, never drops out
Awesome description 👍✌️
“So many guitar riffs.” Dude, you’re not ready for 7empest.
The 7empest awaits.
I think the reason why Descending has a 10,000 days vibe is that it was the first song fleshed out for Fear Inoculum after 10,000 days.
Descending begins at 7:11 for me lol. Love these reviews, I've watched them all. Great stuff.
Initially, Descending was the song I immediately loved off this album. That and Pneuma but now I can't pick a favorite
I think the interludes are more appropriate for listening to the whole album from beginning to end.
14:51 Saturn comes back around
I can’t listen to other music anymore. 5 min and back to tool. S E N D H E L P
Listen to Pulse by Pink Floyd, that should help.
Adam Jones and Danny Carey are virtuosos and of course Maynard is phenomenal, but the ‘Fear Inoculum’ record is Justin Chancellor’s show. His playing and tone are simply magnificent. 👌
I love how you mentioned that it reminded you of 10,000 days because I also saw resemblance of that. Descending is also the 4th song on the album not including the interludes and 10,000 days is the 4th studio album so it was interesting to see that connection. When I listened to the Vicarious music video and then Descending they had the same vibe to it music wise with the intros and outros.
Keep up the great work! *Every* Tool song is arguably my favorite song as well so bask in their equations 😎
Agreed... My favorite Tool song is whatever song I'm listening to at that time...😂
I am so glad I'm not the only one that found this song similar to 10,000 days. Hellyeah, culling voices can't wait!
"RíSé, stay alive." First time hearing this and the crash around it, and ever since it's never dropped its effect it has. Lyrics to this song like some old poem from a few centuries back. Also quite an apt time when it was released given the 2.5 hiatus from near everything. I listened to this song daily because for some strange reason it almost requires it, I've been obsessed with songs in the past but this one is almost a prayer, a routine to carpe Diem each fecking day.
I've been listening to this album with you from the beginning tonite, and although I've listened to this album over 200 times before, I'm hearing it again almost like the first time tonite. Listening to this album with headphones (vs playing it from a little bluetooth speaker, as I've been doing) is a completely different experience, listening to it while high on weed is really allowing me to hear it fresh, and watching you react to it is so on par with how I experienced it for the first time: bewildered and immediately in love with it. While you might not be a huge fan of the connecting sound tracks, I can assure you that it is some magical sound design that really gives you an experience while high. Also, I recommend revisiting this album while high haha. I love that you really understand why this music is so special, maybe more than any other reactor to Tool, and I've watched tons. Looking forward to seeing you hear the rest of this album!
I agree with you about the "transition" tracks. More often than not they're just filler and don't add anything to the overall experience and just seem to extend the run time of the albums for no reason. I know I'm in the minority on this one but I don't know anybody who doesn't skip these tracks (if it's not just background noise) while listening to these albums.
Fear Incoculum is the only Tool album where I skip the segue tracks. They're all good on the other albums, but this one... not so much.
Agreed
@@vanilla_milkshake I skip most of them on Aenema. The crying baby one is just obnoxious.
@@nathanbaca5131 lol I love Caesero Summability

Aaaahw yeah, was looking forward to this!
This song definitely needs repeated listens for the full appreciation to grow..
My favorite track on this album. So so beautiful
Nailed it! I've been dreaming of a Tool-scored movie for years.
11:35-18:20.
I just cannot not lose my sense of time and space and self and find instead that I am looking down/in/around at this world, and all of us, as one.
After all the preceding projects these guys have created I honestly didn’t know how they could continue to evolve and produce something this intensely powerful, creative, connective and beautiful. These minutes of this track really highlight all of what this powerhouse of musicians can do. And even though Maynard’s vocals aren’t present in this part, i feel like he is still there, present, in this space.
So, he likes a good guitar solo huh? 😎 I can’t wait! Just a little bit more my friend, it’s coming.
Adam really went off on this album. Justin did as well. That bass was so haunting. Maynard sounds great. And don't try and follow Danny's timing. This band is like no other. Simply amazing!!

Woody told buzz 👨🏼🚀 Falling isn’t Flying 🪰 !
I agree with your criticism about the length of some of the interlude tracks. You said they might be better at about 1 minute. It's interesting that the "White noise/ Ocean sound" at the beginning of Descending is about 1:15, and could serve as the interlude.
I still don't know why the lead-ups to Invincible and Descending don't appear on my F. I. CD....?
Love to talk to you some time. In a video you talk about the most realistic dream you ever had. I had a similar experience. A disk was forming above me while the energy was going up but I was afraid to let it go past my crown.
Can you also do reactions to all of TOOLs official music videos?! I'd love to hear your interpretation of the art and visuals!! Very Intergral to the whole Tool experience
I love that effect at 10:35 almost a boomerang effect
I have been loving all of your reactions, and definitely value your opinion, about the interludes, and other things. It just made me pause for a moment and wonder: had you listened to this album from start to finish, rather than track by track, would you have had the same opinion? I'm guessing that yes is probably the answer, but it may have hit your ears a bit differently. The world may never know.
7empest is a phenomenal song, definitely a true experience, cant wait for you to hear that!
That dirty bass tone is fantastic. A great song on a great album. Has not left the shop CD changer rotation since it came out.
On another note, is it just me or do others not have that opening interlude track on their album? One of you other videos has a similar style spacey opening track that I have never heard before. I have it on CD, not vinyl or online download. Were they different?
Corey, I've asked the same thing. I bought the F. I. CD from Wal-Mart online in the oversized "Book-style" case. I have 7 tracks on my CD and am hearing those interludes for the first time from this reactor. I'm kind of OK not having them for the sake of listening straight thru, but I also hate to feel cheated!
cant wait for culling voices reaction, underrated as heck but very good
Best song on the album by far.
Yeah man.. always a lot of music.. welcome to the wonderful world of Tool.. “keep going”..✌️Out..
In 2014 they did a live version (Ascending and Descending), but the ascending part sadly wasn't part of the new album:
ruclips.net/video/H2R8483dMF0/видео.html
Wonder why they didn’t include it on the album?
Adam Jones and Tom Morello of RATM are the most inventive and beautiful guitarists of the past 20 years. They don’t overwhelm the bands music by dominating songs with their skill, they play the guitar to enhance the work of others like the drummer and bass players. They give us flashes of that extraordinary talent in songs like this that have guitar solos as part of the song but even then you can still see how they play and allow the drums and bass to still stand out and that’s the magic Adam has, he is a once in a lifetime guitarist who could be headlining his own band and standing out more but he prefers the art he and his brothers create together.
as im sure u already know... they went to the same damn high school too. crazy

Kind of wish you would’ve done descending and ascending in order back to back in the same video. Oh well, damn good reaction to a damn good song
The lyrics and tone made me anxious for the first few listens, when we only had the live version, the idea of "the end is nigh", but upon further listens, I began noticing a sense of hope in adversity

Insta-click
This is the best song, but it's ba sad song. I don't think man pulls it off, in the end...
Nobody seems to get this song. It’s about the overload of freedom and technology that has been unleashed upon us and the world. How having this boundlessness has made us lose our grounding and purpose. How falling isn’t really flying. How we are all caught up in the 24/7 knowledge cycle that makes us overreact to EVERYTHING. This album was pre COVID but it prophesied it’s coming in almost every song, but this one especially. Sound the dread alarm through the primal body... us, humanity, we are floating nescient to our own demise as a species. This is a plea to all humans to wake up and realize that we are slaves to our devices and to the will of algorithms. Rise of the Machines isn’t just a fiction anymore.
A lot like HAWKWIND 1968. 2023.
Hoping this song hits me one day. Out of all the main songs on the album, this is my least favorite.
