This was a small slice of the film Pink Floyd The Wall. The album version is a bit different. It is another Pink Floyd story album that is meant to be heard all the way through front beginning to end like Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, or Animals.

@@Metalheaddru ....The film really helps explain the story, if the album leaves you scratching your head. That's Bob Geldof playing the character of 'Pink'. Gerald Scarfe was the animator, and there are sequences of his work thru the film. He also did the artwork for the album, and his stuff would be projected onto a giant screen behind the band at their live shows. I actually own one of the original animation cels used in the production.....that I purchased back in the mid-1990s...( from 'The Trial' ) I'm a freelance cartoonist myself, so I was collecting animation cels for several years back then. I think I paid around $900 for that thing, from a gallery that specialized in animation art, but it's all framed & certified, etc.

Any time you see what you just described, you are listening to Floyd!! Enjoy it. They were so unique, you'll never hear a band with their talent in 5 generation's. Please do the whole album of Pink Floyds called " The Final Cut " . You will be not be disappointed. Keep it up!

      C Baldwin.
I must say, I don't hear many requests for The Final Cut. Especially as a recommendation for a relative newbie to The Floyd.
I love that album and don't normally see others give it some love! It is still my least favorite album from Meddle all the way thru the "later years".
I understand this album very well, it seemed to apply or work for me as i was getting out of the Navy as it came out. Talking about the end of the world as I was stepping off a nuclear sub ..."two suns in the sunset" kinda hit home!
For me the album is the weakest album in Floyd's catalog musically. Lyrically in many ways is more concise than "The Wall". Or at least seems to stay on-topic more easily for me.
The "later years" albums do not compare lyrically and are not theme based projects.
I do still love the "later years" albums even though most of those lyrics were written by David Gilmour's wife, Polly. In certain ways her lyrics seem more open to interpretation to me. Maybe less defined but still potent. There are many powerful songs on "Division Bell" worthy of the Pink Floyd name and brand in my opinion.
So Thank you for recommending "The Final Cut" to Dru as a new Floyd listener. No doubt he has had strong direction to Floyd's more successful albums.
This is the album that broke up the band!
Roger Waters left the band thinking it was dead. When Roger tried to sue to keep the remaining members from continuing using the name, I think that was the final cut to David. I don't think he could get much past that. My take...
I am sorry to go on like that but I was hoping some context and history would help Dru understand about the album and why it's so different from the albums that came after.

Somebody really wants you to see the movie “The Wall”! In my opinion, you should hear the album, then see the movie. The album came out in late 1979 and the movie was much later. All us PF fans knew the music by heart by then, so the added bits for the film didn’t detract at all from the music. Just my $.02. Isn’t that Gilmour guitar amazing in “Young Lust?” Peace, Dru!

Im sure it was a typo but his name is Bob Geldolf, and he was a member of the BOOMTOWN RATS. they had a couple of hits, mainly in Europe. Geldolf also put together all the Live Aids, and Live 8 where Pink Floyd reunited for the last time, minus Syd obviously, great set BTW. And great reaction.

This is from The Wall which was made when Roger Waters was still in the group. The images and storyline are more weird because of his strong input. That is Roger singing at the beginning. Even so, The Wall is an excellent album and as always to get the full impact one must listen to the whole thing. Then, once you have done that a couple of times, see the movie. All will be worth it, it's powerful stuff.

the album of "The Wall" came out in 1979. The movie "Pink Floyd: The Wall" (which this is from) came out in 1982. It was all part of Roger Waters' original vision of the album, the massive concert production, and then the movie. Empty Spaces was originally supposed to be this version, but they had to trim it back for time on the album. Someone below said "this is crap....listen to the original"...well, this is the original recording of "Young Lust". All the animations etc. play out on the wall and behind it as well in the concert. Roger Waters' 2010 tour of "The Wall" can be seen here ruclips.net/video/rWotr1UVrRg/видео.html or a better theatrical release of the concert at ruclips.net/video/vRZ84PjeS4w/видео.html

I actually looked that word up after listening to this song 30 some years ago! It is: "GLITTERATI"
      def:
The fashionable set of people engaged in show business or some other glamorous activity...
      ...So!
Think of just WHAT exactly Pink Floyd is saying with the lyrics...
      "Latin-American meat-packing glitterati."
PFs lyrics are ALL amazingly deep and descriptive!
Dru, I truly think it would be worth your effort to download the lyrics to each PINK FLOYD FRIDAY song and get to know the PHENOMENAL lyrical GENIUS that also makes PINK FLOYD so awesome! 🎵💜🎶😘
