Love the story and the role of the late Princess Medferuash-Work Abebe and Bob Marley’s generous contribution. Yes, I totally agree, Bob is a trailblazer of what artists can do to help as the honorable Princess Mariam-Senna eloquently puts it. BTW, I must say how glad I am to see her highness that I heard of her name growing up in Dessie. in the neighborhood of መርሆ ግቢ the Palace of her late father, Crown Prince Asfawossen Haileselassie.
Salone, I also like to take a moment and express my appreciation for your hard work directing this movie to let the story be known to the world what once was a well kept confidential operation. Keep up the good work.
I also like to give the most credit to the late Princess, beloved Medferuash-Work Abebe for her able leadership in making this happened, saving the whole new generation ensuring the continuation of such a wonderful family. May God rest her soul in peace with Angels surrounding her.

      @sethbilly3889 I agree with you.
@@azeblemma His Majesty's quotes with regards to his own divinity are very nuanced and therefore often misinterpreted. Even the quote from the 1967 Bill McNeil interview doesn't disprove the Emperor's divinity. It only disproves the incorrect notions about his immortality. Ironically, it also challenges the supernatural theories about the nature of Christ such as his alleged literal virgin birth as human beings aren't emanated from deities but rather the biological unison of a male and a female. Yet the unverified quote about His Majesty allegedly saying that he was not a prophet (or God for that matter) comes from His Imperial Highness Le'ul-Ras Dr. Asfa-Wossen Asserate's book:
"Finally, Haile Selassie met a delegation of Rastafarians in the King's House, the governor-general of Jamaica's residence in the capital. He gave them gold medallions as gifts, but above all he tried to impress upon them that he was not the Messiah: 'We are not God. We are not a prophet. We are a slave of God', he told them. He expressly proclaimed his devotion to the Christian faith, and to underline this he founded two churches - one on Jamaica and the other on Trinidad - and sent an Ethiopian bishop and several priests to work in the Caribbean." Asserate, Asfa-Wossen. _𝘒𝘐𝘕𝘎_ _𝘖𝘍_ _𝘒𝘐𝘕𝘎𝘚:_ _𝘛𝘩𝘦_ _𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘩_ _𝘢𝘯𝘥_ _𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘥𝘺_ _𝘰𝘧_ _𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘳_ _𝘏𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘦_ _𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘦_ _𝘐_ _𝘰𝘧_ _𝘌𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘢,_ Haus Publishing Ltd., Berlin, 2014, p. 259.
I've even had the fortune of asking His Highness Le'ul-Ras Dr. Asfa-Wossen Asserate directly what the exact source of this information was, there is no verifiable source.
It should be noted that His Majesty was bound by law to profess the Orthodox Christian faith as according to Article 126 of the 1955 Revised Constitution which reads, "The Emperor shall always profess the Ethiopian Orthodox Faith." Art. 126, The Revised Constitution of Ethiopia, 1955, _𝘕𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵_ _𝘎𝘢𝘻𝘦𝘵𝘢,_ Proclamation No. 149, year 15, no. 2, p. 19.
The Emperor's words were certainly calculated to be intentionally ambiguous at times, therefore it's quite understandable why Abuna Yesehaq incorrectly assumed that His Majesty ordered him to convert Rastafarians in the Caribbean to Orthodox Christianity: "Profoundly moved by the spiritual yearning of the Rastafarians, the emperor commissioned the young Laike M. Mandefro to go to Jamaica and establish as a gift to the country a branch of the Ethiopian Orhodox Church. The young churchman was not enthusiastic. In an interview with Rasta journalist Barbara Blake Hannah he reflected: 'I didn't want to go. But the emperor said, 'I want you to help these people. My heart is broken because of the situation of these people. Help them find the true God. Teach them.' ' It was the emperor's order and I could not refuse." Spencer, William David. _𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥_ _𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴:_ _𝘈_ _𝘕𝘦𝘸_ _𝘝𝘪𝘦𝘸_ _𝘰𝘧_ _𝘵𝘩𝘦_ _𝘙𝘢𝘴_ _𝘛𝘢𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯_ _𝘔𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵,_ Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge: Holy Trinity Church, Great Britain, 1999, p. 47.
His Majesty even explicitly stated that he wouldn't disturb the Rastafarians' belief that he's God while visiting Jamaica in 1966: "I had breakfast one morning with Hector Wynter, a most fascinating man who was formerly the editor of the _Gleaner._ It was he who was responsible for organising Haile Selassie's arrival at the airport when he visited Jamaica in 1966. He held a rehearsal the day before, allowing the six different groups of Rastas separate places to stand. One group leader did not attend the rehearsal and, on the day, went to quite a different place, broke through the barrier and, with his followers, swarmed up the steps of the plane. Hector said that Haile Selassie burst into tears, whether from fright or emotion he could not say. The Rastas camped outside King's House during the whole of the Emperor's visit. Occasionally he would give a gold coin to one or two of them. Hector, one day, asked the Emperor when he was going to tell them that he was not God. 'Who am I to disturb their belief?' asked the Emperor. (This reminded me of an occasion on which I asked the Emperor what provision he had made for his country after he died. He replied, 'Ethiopia was not created for me. I cannot dictate what happens when I die.') Today, the Rastas seem to have little influence and are regarded as largely harmless. Many have grown rich on the proceeds of growing and exporting ganja or marijuana - a trade said to be worth two and a half billion dollars. They build grand palaces and join the middle classes." Crewe, Quentin. _Touch_ _the_ _Happy_ _Isles:_ _A_ _Journey_ _through_ _the_ _Caribbean,_ Michael Joseph Ltd., London, 1987, pp. 285-286.
This quote is of course at variance with the former Jamaican Minister of Education Edwin Allen's rather vague account: "The Minister discussed with the Archimandrite the attitudes of Rastafarians toward the Emperor of Ethiopia and the establishment of a branch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church locally. The Minister said: 'I regard your presence here and that of some of the officers of your church, the Ethiopian Orthodox Chrurch In Jamaica, as one of my dearest dreams come true.. I share with other Jamaicans and in particular, those who describe themselves as Rastafarians very great respect for His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor of Ethiopia, for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and generally for the Ethiopian people, and indeed, for all African peoples. I was, however, greatly distressed to find that some of our Jamaicans who are admirers of His Imperial Majesty allowed their zeal to lead them astray and to cause them to regard him as God. So when His Imperial Majesty visited Jamaica and I had the honour of speaking to him, I asked him what he thought of his being worshipped as a God. He told me that he was not a God and indeed, he was a devout Christian. I gathered from what he said that any attempt to worship him as a God was an embarassment to him." Mandefro, Abba L. _𝘛𝘩𝘦_ _𝘌𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘢𝘯_ _𝘖𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘰𝘹_ _𝘛𝘦𝘸𝘢𝘩𝘦𝘥𝘰_ _𝘊𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘩_ _𝘢𝘯𝘥_ _𝘪𝘵𝘴_ _𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴_ _𝘪𝘯_ _𝘵𝘩𝘦_ _𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵,_ Parnassus, Kingston, Jamaica, 1972, p. 18.
For starters, His Majesty allegedly telling Edwin Allen that he wasn't "a god" is very different than if he had said he wasn't the one and only true monotheistic God. Also the only quote that's ever actually referenced from Edwin Allen's discussion with His Majesty is, "I am a man, and man cannot worship man" which is pretty interesting considering the fact that His Majesty was a devout Orthodox Christian and Orthodox Christians worship the man Christ Jesus. Certainly this quote must not mean what is prima facie assumed. It's recorded that the Emperor once told a delegation of Jamaican Rastas that were visiting him in Ethiopia that "Man should not worship the image of man, but rather the Almighty." These quotes about his divinity must therefore be observed collectively for proper context as worshipping the image of man implies the mortal flesh or physical depictions i.e. idolatry. His Majesty's physical death is a controversial topic because of the common historical Rastafarians' long held belief that the Emperor is immortal, however His Majesty's divinity isn't based on physical immortality at all for the flesh profits nothing (John 6:63).
Quotes by His Majesty about the inevitability of his own death should be applied: "In this world there lives no man, however prudent or zealous, who can escape death." Talbot, David Abner. _Haile_ _Selassie_ _I:_ _Silver_ _Jubilee,_ W. P. Van Stockum & Zoon Publishers, The Hague, Rotterdam, 1955, p. 11; "I cannot dictate what happens when I die." Crewe, Quentin. _Touch_ _the_ _Happy_ _Isles:_ _A_ _Journey_ _through_ _the_ _Caribbean,_ Michael Joseph Ltd., London, 1987, p. 286; "Man is mortal, each one of Us here will, one day, face his Maker and answer for his actions." _Selected_ _Speeches_ _of_ _His_ _Imperial_ _Majesty_ _Haile_ _Selassie_ _I_ _1918-1967,_ One Drop Books, New York, NY, 2000, p. 416; "I also met certain Rastafarians. I told them clearly that I am a man, that I am mortal, and that I will be replaced by the oncoming generation." CBC interview with Bill McNeil and Emperor Haile Selassie I, 29 April 1967; "When ten years have elapsed since the date of the last news, established by the judgment of declaration of absence, the proof that the absentee did not die on the day of the last news may no longer be made except by the absentee himself or by his special attorney appointed after the date of judgment declaring the absence." Art. 172, "Presumption of Death. - 1. Condition.", Civil Code of Ethiopia, 1960, _Negarit_ _Gazeta,_ Proclamation No. 165, year 19, no. 2, p. 31. @@azeblemma With regards to the EOTC being sent to the Caribbean, the Rastas actually wanted to learn about Ethiopia and requested to have a church set up: "Sometime in the early 1960s, His Majesty learned that some eastern Caribbean leaders would be very much interested for the establishment of Ethiopian Orthodox churches in their countries. He was told that the islanders would accept Ethiopian priests in open arms, as they were resenting the services of their former colonial churches. Some Caribbean leaders even promised to give free land to build the first few Ethiopian churches. The Emperor immediately ordered the Orthodox Church’s leaders to dispatch a few priests to the islands. The Church’s leaders agreed to follow through with His Majesty’s order. However, they did not seem to assess the long-term prospect of the new churches in the Caribbean. Specifically, no serious foundational work was put into the kind of resources that the new mission churches would need. Nor did they (unlike their medieval-period counterparts who were very influential in the spread of Orthodox Christianity in Ethiopia) have discernible ideas or experience about running such mission churches. However, they were able to allocate small salaries for two priests and a deacon for every church and that was how the branches of the Orthodox Church in the Caribbean were established. In the ensuing years, however, no adequate support was provided from Addis Ababa. Nor did the Church’s leaders pay frequent visits to the Caribbean." Mariam Workneh, Fikre. "Abune Tewophilos and Emperor Haile Selassie I: Their Invaluable Contributions to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church." _Ecadforum,_ 31 December 2018.
There's actually only one instance of His Majesty that could be argued that he was instructing people to convert to a particular religion (the jewish "falashas"). This "order" was written in a rather informal letter addressed to the Christian missionaries on January 17, 1931. The Ethiopian stamp, at the top of the document, reads in translation from Ge'ez: 'The Lion of the tribe of Judah has prevailed (cf. Revelation, 5: 5) Haile Sellassie the First, King of Kings of Ethiopia". The same formula is repeated in the three opening lines of the text itself-with the addition of Elect of God, King of Kings of Ethiopia '. "To the Christian missions sent to the Jews. Let there be peace unto you. We thank you for the letter which We have received and which you sent to Us to participate in Our joy on the occasion of Our assuming the Imperial Crown. We are not forgetting the good work which the Christian missionaries have been doing to teach the Jews and to convert them to believe in Christ as well as to return to Christianity Our citizens who are the Falashas of Ethiopia. Therefore We renew to them the desire which has already been initiated by them to teach the Falashas; and We shall assist them in everything possible for Us also in the future. Addis Ababa, 9th Ter 1923 (= 17th January 1931). (signed) Haile Sellassie I, King of Kings."
However the Emperor's laws and overall position on the freedom of religion contradict with any narratives that claim he wanted everyone to join the Orthodox Christian faith. "Though a devout Christian, His Majesty the Emperor has fostered and encouraged religious tolerance throughout his long reign. In his own words: 'Religion is personal; the state is for all.' In Ethiopia, under his forthright leadership, freedom of conscience is guaranteed to all." _Selected_ _Speeches_ _of_ _His_ _Imperial_ _Majesty_ _Haile_ _Selassie_ _I_ _1918-1967,_ One Drop Books, New York, NY, 2000, p. 625.
His Majesty did however allude to being a slave of God in 1930 after defeating Ras Gugsa Welle: "The power to decide what happens belongs to my Creator, and I am not even important enough to be called His slave." Molaver, Reidulf K. _Prowess,_ _Piety_ _and_ _Politics:_ _The_ _Chronicle_ _of_ _Abeto_ _Iyasu_ _and_ _Empress_ _Zewditu_ _of_ _Ethiopia_ _(1909-1930),_ Rüdiger Köppe Verlag Köln, 1994, p. 549.
Yet there are certain people who say that His Majesty cannot be God because God would never speak of himself in the third person however Amos 4:11 is a perfect example of God speaking of himself in the third person in the Bible: "I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD." This operation of God in the flesh on earth is in accordance with the Bible as in the 1968 interview with Dr. Oswald Hoffman when His Majesty said that "it is necessary to conduct oneself in a manner that we have been taught to do in the Bible." Furthermore, during His Majesty's coronation on 2 November 1930 Haile Selassie is quoted as saying, "I am the least of my brethren." This humbleness is the proper example set by the Emperor with regards to our attitudes towards others. Haile Selassie actually considered narcissism to be a psychological and sexual disorder (see _Speeches_ _delivered_ _by_ _His_ _Imperial_ _Majesty_ _Haile_ _Selassie_ _1st_ _Emperor_ _of_ _Ethiopia_ _on_ _various_ _occasions_ _May_ _1957_ _-_ _December_ _1959,_ Ministry of Information, Addis Ababa, 1960, p. 48; _International_ _Classification_ _of_ _Diseases_ _8th_ _Edition,_ WHO, 1967, pp. 148-149). Verbally professing to be the physical incarnation of God in the flesh and commanding people to worship you is narcissistic to the highest degree and serves no practical purpose other than attracting ridicule, criticism and skepticism.
Emperor Haile Selassie never directly stated that he was God in the flesh yet we recognize his divinity by his titles, works and fulfillment of prophecy. It also wouldn't be a proper example for him to say that he's the Almighty verbatim as it wouldn't be in accordance with the prophecy of the scriptures because according to the Bible it's the prophet's duty to proclaim the identity and name of God, not God himself (John 17:6 and John 17:26).
      (Edit: grammar).

You don’t want to know the truth! He said over and over again he wasn’t god… his own loyal servants and priests and children and grandchildren have told you, but you are looking for evidence to silence the truth
Jesus Christ is the only God in the Orthodox faith, that’s his faith, you know that, there’s no strong evidence contrary to that! If you honor and love him, you will follow Christ as your savior

    • @JahRastafari89

@@azeblemma His Majesty never actially said that he worships Jesus Christ though which is significant because it's a simple confession that every common historical christian makes. You would think that the titular head of the EOTC would've been quoted as saying that at least once during his eighty-three year lifespan.
I actually converted from Orthodox Christianity to Rastafarianism because the evidence for His Majesty's divinity is irrefutable. All of the quotes that are often cited to demonstrate that His Majesty denied his own divinity are either misinterpreted or unverified. We know that they're fabricated because they contradict with what Haile Selassie said to Hector Wynter when asked directly about being God in 1966.
Even the quote in Barabara Blake Hannah's 1997 book is completely unverified, "Despite the hero worship accorded him on his visit, it is reported that the Emperor said: 'Do not worship me: I am not God. He alone is worthy of worship.'" Hannah, Barbara Makeda Blake. _𝘙𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘪:_ _𝘛𝘩𝘦_ _𝘕𝘦𝘸_ _𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯,_ Masquel Ltd., Kingston, Jamaica, 1997, p. 40.
The truth is that Emperor Haile Selassie the First is the only person in attested history in the Common Era to legitimately acquire and hold both titles King of Kings and Lord of Lords simultaneously. Therefore His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie the First is the God and heavenly Father of Jesus Christ, and Jesus Christ is a Rastafarian preacher named Primus St. Croix from the island of St. Lucia who was born on February 4, 1967.
