- "Orange is the New Black" follows Piper Chapman as she trades her designer jeans for an orange prison jumpsuit. Starring Taylor Schilling as Piper, a Smith graduate whose decade-old love affair with drug smuggler Alex (Laura Prepon) leads to her arrest and year-long detention within the walls of a women's penitentiary. Piper leaves behind her fiancé Larry (Jason Biggs) to serve her time "inside" with an eccentric group of outspoken inmates, each with her own story and her own fascinating ways of dealing with prison life. Selenis Leyva, who plays the role of Gloria Mendoza, came to BUILD to discuss the new season of the popular Netflix show.

Honestly after this interview I just loved her even more. I really like how she didn't talk about the issues portrayed on Orange at a surface level. She named them and went on to further discuss them, without feeling the need to censor what she was saying just because it would make some people feel uncomfortable or to maintain the polite mannerisms of a media interview. I also liked how she delved into political issues and kept reminding us about how we SHOULD care about such things. I love how she wasn't afraid to call out the flaws in her career field and not glamorizing her success on Orange as if she does not still, face challenges thereafter. She is so so well spoken and a great conversationalist. I really enjoyed watching this!
is BUILD gonna interview all the main cast individually? i hope they do!

Love all the characters in this show.. that being said, Gloria is for sure one of my favorites! Selenis Leyva (as well as Laura Gomez and Jessica Pimentel for sure) have such underrated performances in this show, they all blow me away

I love it when actors keep it real all the time. A lot of people look at Scarlett Johansson Jennifer Lawrence Brad Pitt and you think that's what I want to be but here we have an actress that's on the hit show telling you that is not all that it's cracked up to be. Orange is the New Black helped launch Netflix into the space that Netflix is in right now. Is that that a lot of the actors from the show have not had doors open or opportunities out the ass. Acting it's a marathon not a Sprint.
I’ve got so many favorites on the show I really can’t pick one is my all-time favorite, but glory is definitely one of them. I’m glad when the series was over that she was one of the ones that had a happy ending.
