    Ok, i subscribed. 😁
    Im a 43 year old white male. Ive been extremely passionate about falconry as far back as I can remember, but only learned that this way of life is still being done when RUclips first came out and a random falconry video appeared.
    I was beside myself when that day i realized this could be an actual reality for me! 😲
    Ive been studying and reading about it ever since. And today, I've come across YOUR videos for the first time and i really love your demeanor and professionalism! I'm actually shocked I've never seen your videos before. Well I'm here now lol
    Once im able to buy my own home and property is when I'll be able to start my life as a falconer (as long as I can find a sponsor of course).
    Anyway.....thank you for being you and sharing these videos with us!! I will be watching every one of them!

      Hi there Dylan;
      I'm so incredibly grateful the "random factors" aligned, and you were connected to our content.
      We've been away for a while now, and just recently Joseph and I started discussing how we could go about starting up again.
      Please let me know if you've got any questions I can offer some thoughts on, and I promise we'll do our best to get some new content up shortly.
      Take care,
      Jo

    Excellent idea about pausing after striking the braces. I learned something again, Thank you Joanne.

    • @TheFalconLady
      @TheFalconLady  4 года назад

      Good afternoon Ron;
      You're entirely welcome - its all about both yourself *and* your Feathered-one having good habits.
      By pausing for two or three seconds, you're helping your companion to understand a number of things, patience and "analysis" among them.
      You can _still_ get a great slip from the hood (when you're hunting her); what this unhooding technique *will* do is teach her to take an extra half-second to _look_ for the quarry and _plan_ her flight as she leaves your gauntlet.
      For those of us who aren't hunting our companions off the glove, teaching them to pause when the braces are struck tends to keep them in a calmer state (ie: less inclined toward bating) when the hood is removed entirely.
      Thanks again for the support Ron - truly appreciate your enthusiasm and encouragement.
      Best,
      Jo

    I have a quick question. . . I've started working in the uk as a falconer for pest controle perposes. I'm still learning so i don't quite have my own bird yet but i spend every working day around falcons. My question is regards the swivel, as you said here in the uk we use the "D" type swivels with a large d shaped ring and a smaller round ring. The thing is i've always seen them used the other way around that is the jesses through the large ring and then the leash goes through the small round ring. Are we doing it wrong?
    P.s. I love you video's, i'm learning lot's from them so please keep going with them :-)

    • @TheFalconLady
      @TheFalconLady  5 лет назад

      Good morning Stacey;
      Thank you for your great question - its *entirely* possible I'm doing it backwards!
      The truth is, it made sense to me to employ the UK swivels in this way, so I trusted my instincts. Thus far - no headaches or issues, (knock on wood!).
      Sometimes we innovate by accident, or stumble across a technique out of working in a 'vacuum'. Orienting the D-swivel the way I have _does_ work, however if you're comfortable using them the way you are currently using them, please stick with what makes sense to you.
      I'm interested to know what kind of bird-abatement (pest control) you're engaged in - do you work at an airport?
      Thank you again for your perceptive question!
      Best,
      Jo

      @@cibernet. Where are you located? Is it possible for you to purchase welding gloves where you are?
      The specific welding gloves I'm thinking of are called "tig-gloves" here - they are robust enough to use as a gauntlet, and its reasonably easy to attach a "D-ring" to them.
      If you like, Leah and I will shoot a #postcardvideo of me making one of these temporary gloves when we film the upcoming "equipment making" episodes.
      Is there anything else you wish you had in your tool kit for working with your Feathered companion?

    Great content, I have a question please; is there any danger to your eyes 👀 from his beak. Just I curiosity

    • @TheFalconLady
      @TheFalconLady  5 лет назад +2

      No, that is a misconception that birds will attack your eyes perpetuated by Hollywood.
      The truth of it is that their beaks are not as strong as their feet. If you get a pinch from them on your finger, it's annoying but doesn't really hurt as much as if they "footed" you. Their feet are the strongest part on their body, hence the reason we wear the gloves. I hope that answers your question! If not, please let us know :) -Leah

      Mohammad Al Shahrani, I have a white-tailed hawk and I am training him, my son feeds him and caresses him with his hands and has never attacked us.

    • @TheFalconLady
      @TheFalconLady  4 года назад +1

      Hi again Gillian;
      You're _quite_ right - I *am* thinking of a particular person.
      Some years ago, a "raptor centre" located near my previous home on Vancouver Island started promoting itself online with a series of peculiar (to say the _least_ ) videos.
      One in particular absolutely shocked me to my core; the owner's eldest daughter was shown drawing the braces on the hood she'd just put on a Peregrine's head back so hard the falcon's head was ripped backwards.
      Completely unacceptable technique, Unwarranted, unnecessary, and ham-handed in every regard.
      Sadly, I've seen a lot of this, particularly in North America.
      It is _wholly_ unnecessary_ , sloppy, and frankly cruel.

      Jo

    Serious question... If I'm hearing correctly, you refer to jesses "jess-ez" and what sounds like "jessies." I was under the impression that the word jess is singular and jesses "jess-ez" is plural. Are you being accommodating to people who may pronounce the word differently, is my understanding of the word flawed, or are the years of me being stationed with an artillery unit starting to catch up with me?

    • @TheFalconLady
      @TheFalconLady  4 года назад +2

      Good afternoon StoneE4;
      Dat der hoood *_does_* looook more like a toque, no...? 😉
      The correct plural of jess is 'jesses'.
      its a bit of a mispronunciation on my part to say "jess-eez"...as you browse the old (and soon-to-be-replacement episodes), you'll occasionally hear me say "jess-says" (ie: jesses).
      So whilst you _may_ be experiencing residual gunner's-mate ear-ringing, you've not misheard what I've been saying. 😊
      I'll endeavour to be more consistent in my pronunciations - have a great day, and please stay safe.
