@@bosshogg7470 not all of them have been replaced by the Blackhawk. The US marine corps and army still have a few in active service. The marines now have an updated Huey, the Super Huey UH-1Y Venom. The reason why the army still have a few in active service, is because the Blackhawk is much bigger than a Huey, and there are some places a Blackhawk just cannot fit, unlike the Huey. A lot of the new UH-1Y Venom Helicopters, are not new either, they are retrofitted UN-1N’s. Edit:They still make the original Hueys to this day, they are just for civilian purposes. The Forest Service and Cal Fire have a ton of them for wild land firefighting.
Has to be one of the best sounding helicopters ever made! Fortunate enough to watch one land on the hospital helipad I worked at. Nothing like standing 30 feet away from a huey landing 9 stories up on a hospital roof. 😁
Memories! My wife and I did this ride whilst on holiday in South Africa a few years ago. It was absolutely magical. The manoeuvres were breath-taking. Nothing sounds like a Huey.
I close my eyes and I'm sitting on the Huey floor with a ruck and a M16 in my lap. Only centrifugal force holds me in place as I look straight down in the turns. 50 years disappears.
I flew for another US Gvt agency and had a passenger who was on my acft. 1 day. After a short 30 minute ride with him on board he said he was finally able to get rid of all the demons from the the Viet Nam war and sleep in peace now. Thank you for your service.
Fantastic ride in a historic craft!! I was in the USAF when that Huey came out!! She can really move, carrying a full load!! Could you imagine, having your finger on a 20 caliber Gatling gun??
Next month I will be a passenger on a Huey in Cape Town during my last day on vacation. It is a so called Combat adventure and no sightseeing tour. Aerobatics with a helicopter! Awesome....
It is not at all the only Huey in the world licensed to carry commercial passengers. But still a cool video. What an experience for those kids. All smiles.

Now that you're in Cape Town and merely skirmished along the periphery of amazing low level choppering, perhaps you may want to find some ex bush war Alo pilots lurking around the airfields. They may even take you out to the Cape dunes and show you how it's done . Nothing quite beats being a door gunner on a Alo III gunship manhandling a 20mm with HE rounds at full throttle a mere few inches off the ground. Or an Alo III mowing a LZ for a Puma to set down in. But I digress..... Can't wait for some more videos from you from SA.

What's the best the Huey's gender is feminine with the smooth curvaceousness of its fuselage. In stark contrast to the acute masculine angularity of the Apache attack helicopter which isn't very cute. The Huey's the kind of helicopter one could sleep with in the hanger overnight in the wife's absence.
Those Huey's are epic, when I was a teen (Ahem, 40 years ago) I had a Revell 1:32 model of that. That sound!, for the ride, the faces in the video say it all 😀

The Huey was such a major leap forward in helicopter development and was so synonymous with the Vietnam War, for better or worse. It's hard to believe Bambi wasn't a twinkle in her parent's eyes when the last Huey rolled off the production line... 🛩️😷

In addition to twin engines and a four blade rotor many of the parts have been upgraded to achieve commonality with the Marine Viper attack helicopter. The main fuselage, exclusive of the engine nacelles and the tail boom are about all that remains of the original.

The rest of the Huey II including the blades, drivetrain, fuel system, cockpit and interior amenities are different than the original Huey. Much the same as the WWII jeep and postwar models the manufacturer changed as many components as possible to ensure the sale of new parts stocks. Production of the "real" Huey essentially terminated with introduction of the Blackhawk, although Bell managed to keep the production line going for another 13 years mainly for export sales.
I had the pleasure of doing that flight on my last trip to Cape Town. It is even more epic than the video makes out, especially out over the reserve. Pilot used the prop wash to bounce the chopper on the humps on the trail. And over the sea he got low enough that you could see the waves out the front window. Nothing can compare you for the experience, I know I was still hoping with the excitement from it hours afterwards. My first phone call on my return to CT will be Sport Heli to get the next available seat.
Did you ever think what would have happened if the engine sputtered or quit? I had 4 engine failures in them and they do, Save the memories but save yourself next time. The hole it makes in the ground is not worth your life.

Have done a lot of filming from helicopters including low level flights and flying in a Huey is definitely on my bucket list...such an iconic helicopter and wow what a sound the rotors make. So jealous!

That Huey made a visit to Port Elizabeth in the last half of last year some time. I heard the distinctive sound and thought - no it cant be. Ran outside almost fell over the dog and looked up and there it was heading West. Beautiful masterpiece and glad to claim that SA has one flying example. Was some spectacular banks and pull ups and some seriously low flying. Another favorite heli for me is the Hughes 500. They certainly know how to build heli's. Kind regards from Port Elizabeth again.

UH-1 (all flavors of 1960's) and Jimmy Hendrix go so well together. So many UH-1s of all varianta have been built, and so many parts suppliers all over the globe making new, reconditioning used parts, that these birds can fly for decades. Doesn't mean that Bell can sign off on all of them. Up to the operator to safely fly and maintain them. Suppousedly, China, Vietnam, and North Korea are building and rebiuilding airframes on the downlow.

Are you kidding? The thing couldn't carry much of a payload... It was slow and loud. There is a good reason they were replaced by the Blackhawk.

Huey's are still flying in the Marine Corps. I think Yankee or Xray model. 4 blades now though.
