I have a feeling the reporter was Elton Welsby who wasn’t too bad. I guess his question about age was because he normally saw kids in their early teens riding and didn’t realise that the pros would be late teens/early 20s.
Andy Ruffel looks crap when compared to modern riders. Kinda twee. The tricks riders perform now, and the way riders race.. the riders back then would probably think impossible. But I guess same can be said for lots of sports. Standing on the shoulders of (once) giants. Then again.. maybe I am still jealous, all these decades later, that he was making big money (for the time) from riding.. on whatever Mongoose he wanted..
What an odd comment. You do realise this was right where it all started, when it really started to take off - as far as the UK was concerned anyway. Things develop, change, right? Look at a TV from 1983, then look at one from 'today'. Just be thankful you were around to witness the start and live the glory years.

Nice one Andy.
There definitely is no age limit. Here I am 54 and still riding.
BMX forever.

Typical short-sighted comment from the reporter "Aren't you a bit old for this kind of thing?"
"safety rap" hasn't aged one bit!

@@chaosflower4892I imagine most still can’t do what these pioneers were doing 40 years ago!
@@chaosflower4892 Danny MacAskill's bike probably weighs half that of an 80s BMX
Yeah.... like Jesse Owens was crap compared to Usain Bolt. Stupid comment. Andy pioneered and the rest followed
