Thanks for the Video, always worth watching as far as my holley efi w/timing control on a 469, managed dead on 1.5 litre pr. 10 KM (damn metric people 😄) keep on puting out content.
Holley will operate the stock GM ignition module timing control from 80s timing control HEI and will screw right in to a regular HEI distributor. Just need to pin the mechanical advance. I’ve dun this several times. So Fitech is not the only one that will work.
Great Info in here Mike. I'm also planning on EFI for my Trans Am. Never grew up with carbs. A lot of the older muscle car owners hate on EFI but usually they have bad experiences due to poor install. I'll have to check out your alternator video you mentioned, as a lot of these EFI systems like having a sound, well sorted electrical system.
Thanks Brother... yeah, definitely need a well sorted electrical system. ALL of the issues I've had with my car has been my own fault. Including clamping down on the distributor wires, how dumb. I just had another issue yesterday with the way I wired this... so, stay on the look out for a follow up video to this one. (Crazy I didn't have the issue until I was cruising for over an hour... anyway, live and learn) Thanks!
@@FastMonty yes sir, live and learn. It's how we grow as people and as engineers. Learning from our past mistakes! Quick question about your battery: you mentioned you relocated it to the trunk. Did you do this to improve weight distribution, or another reason? I would imagine A-bodies are front heavy like most muscle cars, my F body certainly is.
@@alanbarrese456 Yup, live and learn is right. I moved the battery to the trunk for weight distribution, AND to free up some space in the engine compartment. Great question!
Fun to see this new fangled tech! It works great and I am Tempest (get it) to move over to it. I have HEI on a 1978 305 and still running points in the 1964 389 in the Bonneville but just not quiet there yet. I once got stranded in a TR4 because the Mallory electronic box failed so I'm a bit gun shy. Post a video about how it goes over the next months year or so and I may just pop on this system. Thanks! Bobby
Thanks Bob... yeah, I hear you about being gun shy. I've had my share of weird behavior, and electrical issues... as mentioned in this video. All issues I've created, ha, ha... ie, don't clamp your distributor wires down, with the distributor. The engine didn't like that for some reason? ha, ha... thanks for the comment!
@@FastMonty I think it's more fun to show the things we all mess up on and shows a good RUclipsr and overall being honest showing how this world really is. I love the phrase one sees in old MG drivers handbooks... "Be Mindful!"
@@FastMonty Have you thought about getting a cam that makes yours RPM closer to 6k? These things sound so good when they are wronged out. I’m shooting for peak power at 5700-5800 if it turns out that my block has the damage I suspect it has.;-)
@@AB-80X There's a low end trade off with cams designed for high rpm... since I love road racing, and autocross, I wanted more torque. Hope your block is ok... keep us updated!
Good question... I'm using NGK V Power plugs (BKR5E) Gapped to 0.045" That gap was from using my Davis Unified HEI unit, so I didn't change anything in that regard. Thanks for the comment!
That was not intentional... shot on a different day, with different lighting. Sorry, not perfect ALL the time. :) But, case still holds true... there's more spark with a CDI box. Thanks.
A coil on plug would be awesome! If it existed. Doing so takes A LOT of work to convert an old engine to handle that... cam sensor, ECM module, etc... so, until that becomes an "Easy" mod, this is the next best thing. Thanks!

Congratulations on the progress with the Poncho Mike.

Thanks! Yeah, the cruise was awesome, but It wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped... more on that later. :)
I watched once came back After our install great info
Thanks! But, I just found out the two coil wires from the CDI, should not be run parallel next to the other EFI wires. Video on that coming soon!
