That would be absolutely incredible! He could pull off like five characters at the least, and i think the audience would fall in love with each and every single one
I like how most would be satisfied with a headshot, but Brennan was like no, I need to fit all of me in the space of a profile picture, filling it as completely as possible love it
For everything Brennan is into and loves, he should for all intents and purposes being a bumbling anti-social mess like the rest of us, but somehow has managed to transcend that culture and become well spoken and deeply charismatic. You just can't help but love him
As a really nerdy guy that works in retail sales, I cannot express how much something as simple as not giving a fuck about what the other person\s think about you when you talk to strangers is invaluable.
Two things to factor in: 1. Online presence and offline presence are not exactly equal. In BLM's online presence he can always choose to have home field advantage. 2. Many nerds have the capacity for all that, because as some other responses alluded to DnD is an inherently social thing to do. His exuberance is what makes it work most of all, I'd say. At least that's it for me. When you "own the room" with your presence, you can shape the tone of a setting so it works for you which in term legitimizes your presence.
Whenever Brennan talked about his childhood with the Colombian family it always brings some tears to my eyes. Brennan te quiero, y aprecio mucho que tu quieras a mi tierrita también.
I love the last bit from Brennan on the realness of perceived qualities. Wonderful point and advice to anyone who is in the middle of challenging themselves or may be suffering from imposter syndrome. There are some traits about you, as an individual, that are actually not up to you to decide. If everyone around you thinks you are confident or charismatic, guess what- you are.
if anyone learning a language is reading this: Please, dont be shy about using it with native speakers. Please. We love it -- we love the idea that you are learning about our language, our culture, asking questions, and learning our ways. Its flattering, and beyond that, it makes us feel a little less isolated from people that may not necessarily look "like us". Its brave, and lovely and 99% of people will NOT make fun of you for speaking a new language.
This was so awesome!!! Very cool to hear Brennan talk about his interests outside of DnD. I’ve listened to a lot of podcast episodes that he’s guested on, and you brought up topics he’s never brought up before, and he clearly enjoyed that! Great job as an interviewer 👍🏻
I'm someone who's fully fluent in English with it being my second language, to the point of being able to do accent work decently enough for a home game of dnd. I haven't really thought about that as anything special or impressive, so Brennan's wonder at people who can do that was very uplifting.
I love how Prozd keeps interviewing every person whose content I love and it seems like a coincidence but at this point Im just accepting he has great taste in who to do a podcast with
Interesting perception with the "Child's level of speaking" it reminds me of Victor Wooten's theory about teaching music where it should be more like teaching a child a language rather than a more traditional "subject". You should play outside of your skill level and by talking with more native/educated speakers you progress in a more natural way.
theory does help a lot, when I was learning English learning more basic grammar really did improve my skills. however that was after I was very much introduced to the language and had a level of familiarity with it, and to get that familiarity that I believe "teaching like a child" is more effective, there is no point in teaching theory if you have no familiarity at all on the subject, the theory will just fly over your head.
Brennan seems so happy to be talking about anything OUTSIDE of D&D that I have to wonder if that's all anyone else ever wants to talk to him about, rip.
The fact the BLM is interested in languages really warms my linguist heart hhhh It's not that surprising considering all the work and references that can be noticed in his campaigns in terms of using language(s) but it's still really cool to have a part of the podcast dedicated to language learning honestly
And while I'm here, I have to say that having faces like the D20 cast, BLM, ProZD, BDG etc in this sort of game/nerd/tabletop community is amazing (and the fact that prozd knows dogen? wow) and it's a very pleasant and interesting corner of the internet that I'm honored to find.
Oh man, I'm in the same position as Sungwon in Korean but for Vietnamese, and Brennan really is also inspiring me to try to pick up the language again!
Brennan wont see this, but my best advice to get more fluent at a foreign language you already understand is to consume media in that language, video games, movies, series, books etc.
What a treat! Thank you both for a lovely, thoughtful discussion. @Brennan, if you're looking for gateway video games from the perspective of a non-gamer, Disco Elysium has been my recent obsession from a TTRPG background. (Incredible voice acting, art, commentary, style... hard recommend!)
I toyed with the idea of voice acting in high school but never really pursued it. I’ve recently been told my “narrator voice” is great by a few people, and having DM’d for almost a year, developing accents and voices, this has really sparked my interest again. Loads practical advise in here, not just “here’s places to apply! Work hard! Be flexible!”
I loved the whole episode. The two riffing back and forth about subjects of interest like that is always fascinating... but the fact the episode cuts RIGHT before Brennan is able to say the name of the streaming service also cracks me up. XD
Brennan’s here so I gotta get in the comments! Edit: I got to the part where they talk about fighting and I took karate (Kempo Jujitso) for 7 years and got just below a black belt. One of the things the instructors always always said is all these skills were for the worst case scenario. If you can, run, get out, because the most important thing is your life. If you have to fight get to a point where you can run away as fast as possible. If you can’t and you end up on the ground hurt them. Don’t go for the big move go for the painful move. The underarms have a lot of nerves, push upwards and in on the nose, things like that. If they have a weapon you will get hurt, if they have a knife you will get cut, but here’s how to minimize damage to you. And we were always told if they have a gun, don’t fight until you absolutely have to. A bullet always travels faster than a punch or kick. My training was literally all about getting out of the fight as soon as possible.
I had no idea you had such an amazing guest! this is a match made in heaven. I watch tons of your stuff as well as Brennan's, yet youtube has never made this connection.
29:17 DUDE! Tell me about it. I'm the same age, and had to have an operation midway through covid, and then hurt my foot. This means I was off my feet for like four months, and was taking it easy for a couple months before and after. I feel like I'm made of sticks, wrapped in sacks of garbage half the time. I was never a fit guy, and I'm a big dude, but I was on the mend. I'd put my back issues behind me, and was upping my exercise game and making some real headway on getting my weight/muscle ratio where I wanted it to be, and then BAM huge backslide and I've been kind of flailing ever since. It's so funny though, because 32 is basically when I discovered your body just settles into whatever you're doing. Like I realized it had been several years since I jumped, like just jumped up onto something, or off something, or just like hopped. I could do it, but it was so weird to realize I just didn't have jumping in my life anymore as an adult. Living is doing, and if you want to be able to do something as you get older, do not stop doing it. The machine will get rusty, and you will forget the steps of the dance.
Holy shit dogen, his skits are very good, and for it to be completely in his second language is amazing. I think there are hidden jokes in his subtitles that are actually incorrect translations but get across the same idea.
I really vibe with the idea of having something in your life that you're a novice at, I recently tried out a poetry workshop basically completely blind and it's been really fulfilling.
If Brennan sees this (and ProZD too), might I interest you in the Reckoners game as another "stressfully" difficult co-op game? It's based on the book series by Brandon Sanderson.
Oh my god i would love to see ProZD on a Dimension 20 sidequest
That would be absolutely incredible! He could pull off like five characters at the least, and i think the audience would fall in love with each and every single one
Yes please Prozd for next D20 sidequest.
@@mihneazote8283 888
@@mihneazote8283 Prozd would play a changeling and make different voices for each of the changeling's persona and i would live for that

love it
Read it in his descriptive voice. Love it.
It probably helps that he was homeschooled and never went to...public highschool (shudders)
Being awkward and socially anxious doesn't preclude you from also being or becoming charismatic and confident. They're just obstacles to be overcome.
What? DnD and Improv are hypersocial activities.
Not to mention how socially adept you have to be, in order to be a great camp councilor
Two things to factor in:
1. Online presence and offline presence are not exactly equal. In BLM's online presence he can always choose to have home field advantage.

That's why I'm here too 🙏

"I have done nothing but teleport bread for three days."
Dude me too that’s crazy
Same

Bruh same xD escape from the bloodkeep has been my all time favorite
Brennan: I love studying wildlife biology and zoology!
And thus, we learned how Brennan knows so many bird facts.
Whenever Brennan talked about his childhood with the Colombian family it always brings some tears to my eyes. Brennan te quiero, y aprecio mucho que tu quieras a mi tierrita también.
Brennan is an absolute king, nothing but respect to the DM Goat
Yes!
GOAT HOUSE! 🐐

Nathan and Julia from Drawfee and then Brendan Lee Mulligan back to back, it’s like ProZD has hacked into my favorite content creators.
YES, SAMEEEE
20:23 Brennan sincerely loving kids and thier antics is so wholesome.
Prozd on a d20 side quest would be goated
Even though he has said he doesnt like dnd I'd still love to see it. I hope he plays Archibald.
"You encounter a stranger on the road..."
"ITS WENDY OLDBAG THAT HORRIBLE OLD WOMAN!!!"
Or just a whole table of brennan DMing and all the players are different prozd characters

just listening to this guy talk about shit is great, he's got a very engaging voice
He’s effing phenomenal at DMing, he’s neck and neck with Matt Mercer IMO.

I hope they ask him if he actually owns the sword he uses in skits.
@your rage bot
he has mentioned he loves swords, so maybe, probably
He mentions he owns like 5 different swords I think on game changer
He owns several swords. The armor was Sam's.
Brennan and ProZD is too powerful of a combination. My head exploded....as did my heart ❤
I love how abruptly this cast starts. no fluff no introduction, just raw dogging from the start. tremendously on brand for prozd
I see Brennan. I click.
Oh my god. I love him SOOOOOO so much.
His voice is angelic. Thank you for having him.

Probably that and birds
Probably my favourite actor at collegehumor.
Such enviable comedic energy and timing.
I imagined this entire podcast was recorded with Brennan sitting on his chair like that
The fact the BLM is interested in languages really warms my linguist heart hhhh

Your style of interview really reminds me of Dick Cavett. Very laid back, very open conversation, and good humor that's often understated.
Okay but I just discovered Dimension 20 recently and suddenly this is happening? What a coincidence.

What a wonderfully insightful interview. I love how it covered so much in roughly an hour or so. You've got a new subscriber!
A crossover I never expected, but will watch the second it's not almost midnight.
