Great info Peter. Every new situation is a learning experience. This lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. Thanks for sharing this, it presented opportunities for some great emergency planning and prep conversations. Fair Winds!
I agree with your decision to move into deeper water away from the shoreline. I also agree with your decision to stay within the 30 feet deep, large harbor. If time would have permitted, motoring offshore would have been the best bet assuming the depth offshore is significantly deeper to avoid a breaking waves, weather permitting. I'm glad is was a none issue for you. What did the vessels do in the area exposed to the tsunami waves?
Thanks Don, no vessels were damaged in this event around the country. But a year later another Tsunami event wrecked a whole marina in Tutukaka which is close by here.
Hi Bryan, Yes we eventually get to sail up to Fiji and further. The plan is to circumnavigate finding yummy food experiences as we go. We have many fantastic adventures coming up in the Fiji season. For real-time you are welcome to follow us along here: facebook.com/sailingdrivingandeating
That definitely would have been a tough decision to make, very happy it all turned out ok. Yogi says it was frustrating because she was trying to work and it was another distraction, made me laugh. 🤣 bloody tsunamis annoying her 🤣
