Eureka really does look like a nice place to visit. It reminds me of Monterey down on the central coast: history, culture, tourism... you name it.
Good one as usual, Kyle. Never been up there, but my Mom and Stepdad used to RV up there in summer before he passed away, so it's nice to see some of their old stomping grounds.
11:41 And to your left is the Humboldt Hilton. Everything in Eureka looks the same as it did when I moved away 10 years ago, with the exception of an In and Out, and Denny's is now IHOP.
In-N-Out is the best addition to Eureka in my opinion.
I lived in both Fortuna and Arcata 20+ years ago and it was nice to see what had changed and what hadnt. Dig the content
I quite liked music switch when freeway ends we enter the southern edge of Fortuna. Looking forward to the next installments - my trip north on US 101 a few years ago ended around Trinidad.
Thanks for tuning in, I appreciate it!
Great place to visit. Ft Humboldt, Humboldt Bay, Arcata, Samoa Cook House, Trinidad, Famers Landing. Great food, very nice people and some beautiful scenery. OH yes, Ferndale and Fortuna too. Rio Del, Scotia on and on.
Some of the most beautiful country anywhere in the nation, my stomping grounds as a young boy in the 1960s and into the 1970s. Thanks for taking the drive up the North Coast. We had to evacuate as a result of the 1964 flood, ending up in Grants Pass, Oregon. It always nice to see the area, and was there last year. The home is gone but the charm of the place and its layout is still there.
That’s crazy that you remember that Flood! The only flood of my lifetime was the one in 1997 but I was only six months old when that happened, needless to say I don’t remember it happening!
Fortuna. Art Bell. C Crane.
For as much as I ordered from C Crane for awhile there, this video is the first time I'm actually seeing what Fortuna, California looks like, even if it's from US 101.
Great video Kyle.
This is part of California the average visitor never sees or even knows exists.
Thank you! And I couldn’t agree with you more!
it looks more scenic than I-5
It’s really a matter of preference. I like both personally
The parts of US 101 that's at the Pacific Coast is a seek peak at how the highway will be like in Oregon & Washington- but as a 2 lane road.
US-101 north of Trinidad is definitely what the drive is like in Oregon and Washington that’s for sure
Wow sunny. Been there with damp low clouds most of the time. Gas only $5.60s lol. Like it there, though.
A sunny day is indeed rare in Eureka!
I lived in Arcata for a while back in hmm, 1973? Hard to recall. I was rooming with a bunch of other kids, all students at either CR (College of the Redwoods) or Humbolt State College, which later became UC Humbolt. You didn't mention UC Humbolt when you listed the local colleges, did UC Humbolt later become CalPoly Humbolt?
My haunting ground for many years, really loved the North Coast, especially between Eureka and Crescent City. Eureka was invaded by hispanic and Asian wannabe gang punks in the later 90's, snd made the nice mall unsafe.
Excellent video as always, Kyle. It's great to see the forests of Northern California. I really like the music behind your outro - you used it to brilliant effect in your video of Medicine Bow on Wyoming Highway 130: ruclips.net/video/FIaq490FHtE/видео.html. I'm looking forward to the rest of 101 in California.
What happened to the video with the bus on fire?
That video is still live. It’s I-70 going up into the Rocky Mountains from Denver from the 2022 season.
I lived in Eureka California from 1999 to 2003. It’s improved some, put the town still leaves much to be desired.😒😒😒😒😒
