While Elon Musk offered Starlink for Gaza, don't forget that he cut connection to Ukraine during a covert attack.
Yes. But even a single hour of communication could save lives. Starlink WAS useful to Ukraine, that's why it hurt when he took it away.

@@serronserron1320 That's a good point, but the Palestineans just need a connection to the outside world to present to everyone how they're getting genocided.
The mixup of "dead" and "casualty" is sadly extremely common. it's also constantly done in reports about the ukraine war.
The US, AFAIK, is one of the only countries that uses “casualty” exclusively to mean that a person has been killed. In every other country I know of, “casualty” means dead or injured.
@@JasonBoyce official US sources, like the military, do also mean injured people when they say casualties in reports about wars.
either way, it's a big reason for why people doubt the numbers that are published on russian casualties. because far too many, including the media, do not understand what it means, so they think the number is much too high. it's a problem because this lack of understanding puts sources in very wrong lights, undeservedly
But the not giving the source that it can be looked up if ther is sucjh a mistake, is unforgivable.

@@marocat4749 i mean, that's an issue, too. I would like it, if news outlets presented their sources more directly (of course it needs to be an option to keep some sources anonymous to protect them).
The initial plan was to "evacuate" over a million people with 24 hours notice. All of this has just been creating a permission structure so that they can carry out their atrocities without too much backlash internationally. I imagine people working in the US state department have barely caught any sleep lately.

@@katzicael I'm not sure what you think they can do to fully stop it short of threatening war... with a nominal ally... in a scenario where Israel still has a lot of support from the public at large.

Al Jazeera has been known to be a bit biased when it comes to the Arabs in Gaza. Maybe they purposefully tweaked the wording
If you think Al jazeera biased you have to go to gaza , it’s much worse there . That al jazzera isn’t capable to film everything
People who think that "casualty" means "killed" are often the same people who see an M113 and call it a "tank."
It's frustrating that news media have been slashing budgets, because you lose a lot of expertise needed to understand the details of crises like this. Thanks to corporations prioritizing profits over everything, we wind up with reporters covering too many subjects and never really learning what they're doing.
"But your honor, there were Hamas rockets in that playground."
The Palestinian TikTok’s are pretty funny. The ones showing them imitating IDF soldiers showing evidence of this and evidence of that. “Here we have a calendar and on this calendar there are the certain dates marked and these dates correspond with the birthdates of Hamas terrorists”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Al Jazeera also said the hospital had caught fire from the blast, but I have yet to see images of that.
Thinking the reporting of the numbers from the hospital were deliberate is asinine. Mistakes happen, especially in war. Al Jazeera is aware things get substantiated. If a reporter were to deliberately do something like that, they would have to know the truth would emerge relatively quickly, or at the very least a gross overestimation would be caught. They know the health ministry is going to release numbers. At that point, whatever Al Jazeera reports is irrelevant. They know numbers are eventually going to be independently verified. It just doesn't make sense for any news agency to deliberately lie about it.
Al Jazeera might be biased, but they're not stupid. I've always found them far more credible than most media sources. They have no problem with showing two sides of an argument even when it comes to Israel. They've hosted some of the most unbiased debates with Israeli politicians that I've seen. One just a couple of days ago. They're not afraid of truth even if it doesn't favor their position. If you truly think they're that biased, you don't watch Al Jazeera. They're the source of many other news outlets, including major networks here in the US.
Unless that nuance is on Wikipedia it doesn't exist to Ian.

In the meantime, I still hear them mentioning Oct 7 all the time, just like every other news media. Can't talk about Palestinian deaths without mentioning Oct 7.
Google translate is still a live and not static source I think so I would not rule out Google having updated the translation potentially. It still wouldn't excuse media overrelying on google and one video though.
Another victim of capitalism. There used to be people who are paid translators. That was a job that was automated away to save a buck. Its fine to use google translate for personal purposes but news agencies need to employ ACTUAL human translators.
Yeah media companies this large have no excuse for not hiring a few independent translators, or in al Jazeera's case, SURELY they have people on hand who are multilingual, considering where they're based.

Here's the thing Vaush, the amount of misinformation surrounding this war is insane.
It's hard for people, journalists included, to get accurate facts because their mobility in and out of the strip is limited. The texts and emails are probably one of very few ways to get news actually passed along.
Think of it possibly like this: 50 people died in the blast, when the numbers got reported by the very busy people at the site who have more important things to get to, they accidentally added another 0 when emailing the Minister of Health.
However, I've seen it get even weirder. Shani Louk (RIP) for instance, the Israeli Forensic Medicine reports said they found a bone from her body that essentially means she'd passed away because its absence from one's body is incompatible with life.
There was already a conspiracy theory that she was alive and being treated at a hospital in Gaza, when the report came out, it was doubling as both an update about her for people who saw her in that video and were distressed, and well... putting that conspiracy theory to rest. It must have been hell for her family through all this time with the internet making up things about her being alive.
That news in and of itself was layered by made-up details when it got passed around the internet. People were, for instance, inadvertently perhaps (Through the use of brief language), adding on details that she was actually not killed on October 7th, that she was taken back alive to Gaza and was at some point later on (During the airstrikes perhaps) executed. This is not the fault of the Israeli reporting, they never said anything misleading, they simply said "Hey, remember this victim from the video? We can rather tragically report now that she's dead".
But can you imagine being one of the family members of the hostages whose whereabouts are unknown right now opening the Twitter app, seeing this, and starting to think "Oh my god they're starting to execute the hostages!!!". That would make one very stressed even though, yes, they've probably all thought of the possibility that none of their family members are alive any longer.
UNICEF posted about this on LinkedIn. I think we're really in the thick of it right now. News sources are not able to report correctly, and Social Media, especially Twitter's "brevity" has contributed a great deal to this.
People rely on their "deduction skills" and "imagination" to fill giant gaps, and without reporters on site WHEN things happen, we're just... in a fog. I don't trust anything 100% anymore that's supposed to address things happening on the ground in Gaza unless it's eyewitnesses, or I can see it in a video. Also, gonna look at the source to take it with a grain of salt.

Military service is mandatory in Israel. You are either a soldier, a past soldier or a future soldier. There is a small carve out for conscientious objectors, but it is very small and fraught with obstacles. It is an accurate description to say that there are almost no 'civilians' in Israel.
'Israel' is serves two main functions: A forward military base securing control of global reserves of energy (which is why the US military throws gobs of money at it), and a place passively anti-semitic countries can point to when they want the Jews that live there to get the fuck out, which is how Jews like me got out of the (former) Soviet Union.
funnily enough, ultra-Orthodox fanatics who are most pro-war, usually don't go to army themselves. Most of them don't work either. Just live on welfare and breed like rabbits
The majority of roles are actually non-combat so we're talking about janitors, construction workers and computer nerds. Conservative Jews can opt out of combat which is around a quarter of the population. And there are other exceptions that people can get from becoming a soldier. By denying that there are no civilians is the same argument that is being used by people who want to wipe out the Palestinians. Because half of the Palestinian population has been involved with working in the tunnel systems throughout Palestine and Hummus have received the largest political support out of all factions in Palestine.

Should Israelis release thousands of convicted terrorists to liberate foreign citizens? I bet that the US government wouldn't do that for Israeli citizens.
Also, there's a better reason for IDF to disable communications in Gaza. It is to prevent live streams of Israeli citizens getting decapitated. You mean the people of Gaza who have no electricity for tv, radio, or lights?
So they translated it for Gaza, where they cut off the power. How are they supposed to see it?
Nice. I'm sure that every single Palestinian, who are currently being bombed and living without food, water, or electricity, have watched the video and taken notes.
They have no communication in Gaza, it's literally impossible for anyone in Gaza to see this.
