Don’t stop moving. Once you stop moving, you stop moving. True movement isn’t about PR’s or a certain aesthetic, but an appreciation of one’s body. I was a high level gymnast, great high school athlete and now a mom to 3 kids. My movement these days is also attributed to my plant based diet. I attest that my body looks different than the younger generations, but my movement is pain free, long lasting and done with ease.
I can 100% related to what Kelly said about women and movement. I got into mountain biking in my mid 30s. Who knew I would still be shredding at 50+? Getting out on the bike has fed my soul for over a decade.
Exercise, injury, rest and heal, exercise, injury, rest and heal and being discouraged, exercise, injury, rest and heal, try to find better ways to exercise, exercise, injury, rage against my body, trying to cope with my weaknesses, go further and injury more, rest and heal, try to find willpower not to give up. 30 years like that since I was 23. I finally understood my body is not made for exercise and you prove me wrong. I just followed others path, I have to find mine.
I've learned intensity can come in many forms, it can be loud and chaotic or calm and peaceful. I had to learn the hard way a productive workout doesn't have to feel like it's going to kill you.

Would have loved to hear Kelly McGonigal mention dance as exercise...bellydance, country dance, any dance. There is also the love and beats/groove of music that enhances enjoyment of movement.
Yes its about loving to move and always move with joy and love - it makes a Big difference if you smile into every cell of your body - and let that smile radiate out into the world. Its a kind of playing the melodier of being alive - happy movements 🎶🖤🎵😊
I had ignored or sidelined the importance of exercise thinking my Dr. Greger's plant based diet was enough! Yes I was getting my daily steps in and being active but now I'm going to the gym and trying pilates too. Best decision because I'm so much stronger. It's such a gradual thing losing muscles and flexibility that I hardly noticed.
Just to add to what you said is the importance of full range of motion, So many people go to the gym, go running or cycling, do yoga etc and don't experience how good they can feel, because they don't regularly or ever use strength through thier proper full range of motion. People like the weck method, knees over toes, functional fitness are way ahead on this.
Omg… you and Sadie are sooooo right. I spent 20 yrs as a personal trainer who was trying to teach clients how to listen to their bodies but I was fighting the commercial messaging. Post frozen shoulder Siri g covid, I’ve not returned to a routine of movement/wellness Because I feel too much shame to the heavier version of myself to a return to working or even socializing Despite the fact that I’ve preached everything that Sadie says!!! Well in winter - use Rouvy bike routes (virtual)…use the environment - if enough snow xc ski…work on some strength work, or go swimming - there are so many options. The most important thing is to “turn up” to the workout and bring the joy 🤩…
I loved the movement snacks - fun ideas for awakening basic coordination,general strength and balancing and flexibility - keep moving - and Now I am 79 but I still enjoy movement as a fun and playfull relation with #aliveness 🎵🖤🎶😺😀
Can totally resonate with Peters point. I had an ankle injury playing basketball, over a decade ago and ended up having 3 surgeries. Didn’t have proper instructions on how to care and rehab my ankle. My ankle still doesn’t have full mobility. I can barely do squats. Long story short…I’ve gotten away with poor mechanics for so long but after more injuries, minor car accidents, and lifestyle …..it caught up to me at the age 28. I ended up having pain in my neck, back, hips, and groin along with other problems. Biomechanics and movement patterns are so underrated. Glad this topic is being discussed.
I mountain bike nearly everyday around 2.5 hours lots of climbing. Friends say you like your exercise, I hate the term exercise because to me it means doing something I don’t like but have to do. For me riding unlocks my hunter gatherer instincts, being aware of my surroundings an all round engagement of body and mind. You have to find something you like as long you’re moving, running swimming dancing anything. Riding works for me.
Yes. 🙌… I ride as well, run, swim, walk, xc ski. Bike in the hills is my strength. This whole b.s over this word “exercise” or “cardio will screw up your strength” 😂 uhh…I never ever use those words. It’s all about finding movement we absolutely love…then all these gains come about as the byproduct of consistent enjoyment! (Former elite athlete).
@@becsta365 we think the same, I don’t eat from 7pm till 7am, water only to easy. Also this whole 16 hour fasting is unsustainable for most people. Baby steps
Any suggestions for how to start myn biking? I ride a road bike but I want to try mtn biking because the position seems better for my back. Thr stock seat is a bit uncomfortable on thd mtn bike and Im nervous about the roots rocks etc. btw Im 66 years old
@@rosep8481ry your roadie saddle on your MTB. In regards to bikes something like a Specialized StumpJumper capable & forgiving. Demo an Ebike maybe. Also start on flat pedals they’ll give you more confidence in the rough. I recommend some coaching for proper body positioning google something like PMBI have a chat about what you’re trying to achieve with your riding. Ask the same questions at multiple bike shops until you find the right employee who’s on your wavelength and not BSing you. I hope the above info helps
And truly the best idea is - choose to do something you would like to do - do it in a pressure free way - e.g. Go for a playfull free run for 10 minutes every day in 10 Days - and see what hoppens - and I Can recommend - do 10 minutes of free and fun dancing every day and see what happens to your feeling of feeling joyfully alive - no specific style just enjoying the rhytms of moving 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
I used to love walking and running barefoot at the sand beach and doing basic yoga or basic breating-stretching-balancing- strengthening contemporary Dance movements ( and they are always normalt done barefoot) - thank you for these foot and leg strengthening, balancing, exercises and reminding me of how wonderfull it Can be to just move - 😀

As a 290 lb fitness RUclipsr I reject the whole distinction between fitness and obesity. I am fitter than a long time. Maybe ever. Could I have run a marathon when I was 160 lbs. Maybe. Maybe not. I did at 290. I didn't deadlift at 160 so I don't know if I could have. Maybe.

Our relationship to ourselves is broken, because early on as young people our spirits were broken. Everything had to be a competition with winners and losers, not for the fun of it. Only to be better than everyone else. This is a flaw in society, not human individuals. Conformity crushes the human spirit.
People make the mistake confusing health and fitness. The guy who ran the first marathon collapsed and died when he got to Marathon. We think we have to 'win' because we are taught in school and life to win, my team against your team, my country against your country. I'm not saying do nothing, I walk two miles a day, find your exercise, find your life.
We grew up with thugs & exercise, not mom & Dad , we exercise our butt off all though life , to this day , im 58, but i don't need a diet ! Whalla 🚴♀️
But I would have preferencer that you had shown the exercise taljen about - getting up from the table, just simple showing the movements ( I know it would make everything more complicated and maybe not so perfekt but so much clearer what was talked Bout. Show it dont just talk 🙃😊🙏
Anyone experienced headaches after exercising (even light) ? I’m not „in shape”, trying to start moving, but even riding bike can end up with severe migraine and it’s not fun :/
The whole fitness industry is broken because the emphasis is on appearance not function. Yeah body builders look good and can lift a lot but their body as a whole isn't functional.
This is great information. How do we share this with the chimps and orangutans? They must be in so much pain. Sorry but this seems a little self indulgent. How does any of this contribute to the universe? We have huge problems on this planet, how does all this time spent on ourselves benefit the rest of the planet? Serious question actually. I get the persons health benefits but..Is it worth the time required? So maybe if we change our day to day activities that automatically incorporates healthy physical movement we don’t have to spend so much time correcting.
Maybe because movement helps you feel better about yourself, and then you can be a better human. You may not solve the world’s problems, but even in some small way, it helps.

It seems like people are spending an unbalanced amount of time “getting in shape” or staying fit these days. Does the benefit to the rest of the planet justify the time put in or is it more of a selfish practice? Cool. I walk 3.8 miles to work..... spend 8 hrs a day at wrk and walk 3.8 home.. walk to work is all uphill and half of it is like 45 degrees steep. I've just worn out a pair of vibram walking boots in 5 months
