    A masterful demonstration of this distinction. I love that you even restricted yourself to 2 notes. It really hits home and was obvious. Then the Smoke on the water was presented slowly enough to be really clear. Very Clear.

    Sir, this unlocked me. My solos are now solos. After all these years, i just needed to see the 2 note demo, and then try it myself with a backing track. CRAZY!!!!! Thank you!

    I absolutely loved this video, sir! Delivered in a very friendly manner as though you were talking directly to me! AND, on top of all this, the information was something I've always felt, but was unable to put it into a sensible conversation! Well done!! I'd recommend subscribing your channel to all of my friends. Please stay well and happy in the coming New Year! Thanks ever so much. - Brian Cooper, Shinkai Studio, Japan.

    This is a great channel. Have you go any tips for reliably hitting chord tones (especially 3s and 5s) over chord changes? I'm learning jazz and I know where the 3s and 5s (as well as 1s and 7s) are in relation to, say, a 2 5 1 progression when I think about guitar but hitting them in soloing or remembering where they are on the fly is something that I'm finding it hard to practise.

    • @guitarmastery
      @guitarmastery  Год назад +2

      Jazz is taught in a radically different way than any other style of music. On the guitar at least. The lack of a orderly system of notes requires you to learn any Jazz standard like you would learn the chords of a song. So before you go play with other people you not only learn the chords and the melody, you also practice specific arpeggio and scale patterns in specific places on the neck that you can then use for improvising. There isn't a reliable system out there for doing this on the fly. Other than my program called "CHANGES" which you will find on reinventingguitar.com. It's sold out right now but I will take in new students next year. Until then stop thinking about jazz improvising as you would rock or blues: You have to first lay out the arpeggio and scale patterns in the spots on the neck where you want to improvise and then practice them to the point where you can start being creative with them. I hope this helps.

    Good stuff. It took me quite a while to understand this myself. It's an inflection type thing, really. How many ways can you say one single word?
    This is so relatable, and once you understand the concept, it's as easy as.....well, talking. Music is a language, after all. Just some food for thought. Thanks once again 🤘
