I have the E-280 paired with the Dynaudio Heritage Special speakers and Rel T7x. It’s a “good” combination that can make you feel most of the music. There’s a lot of things that it does well like the neutral tonality, clarity, and powerful sound. I’ve never had to turn the volume above 10 o’clock, since it plays plenty loud. The unit is heavy even if it’s the smallest of the Accuphase integrated amps. It’s super solid and looks to be of significant build quality. I think for classical music, it doesn’t make the music sound spacious and wide enough, as well as feeling like the layers of instruments are not as separated as I would like. I would like to hear more texture and realism, which I feel is not there enough. I would love to hear how the E-280 would compare with its higher priced siblings like the E-4000 or E-5000. For my budget now, those other amps are out of reach. For busier and complex music with lots of fine details and layers, the E-280 may not be good enough for discerning listeners. For those who want to have a clean reproduction of sound with a touch of warmth and smoothness, good amount of power, and not picky about getting the most audiophile level of refinement, this may work for your budget.

Just moved from Yamaha A-S1200 to Accuphase e280. Man, what a jump. This is a piece of jewellery. Better tighter bass, fuller sound, sweeter tone, more clarity, significantly better low volume performance, and better build. Yamaha is great and I thought I was done until I got e280. My fav is loudness compensation- makes it sing even at 45db.

I have an Accuphase E-380, the next one up the line from this one and it is truly an awesome integrated. The more higher end gear I hear the more I like my Accuphase!

The thing with Accuphase is the building quality. Lots of Audiophile stuff is simply overrated. Electronic pieces are not so great or the chassis have plastic parts to give a welded front, cheap knob pot, and so on.
When you buy an Accuphase, you buy gear with no compromise. It's ridiculously priced and nowhere reality, yes. But it's a wonderful timepiece for your future you to have.

Hey Adrian, I love your videos! Coincidentally just today at your "Italian counterpart", Audiocostruzioni, they did a livestream comparing the Accuphase E-280, the McIntosh MA5300, and a Luxman. They had with them a customer who is not only a hi-fi enthusiat but also an electrical engineer. They opened all three and the engineer started to point out the tecnical differences on all three. From purely a construction point of view, the audiophile & engineer showed that the MA5300 was far superior to the E-280. However, the shop owners themselves, although big McIntosh sellers, prefer the sounding of the Accuphase. I wish it had English subtitles because it was super informative. Anyway thank you for your videos too!

I had an accuphase e380 with some Elysian 4. They sounded wonderful, transparent and you could feel the separation of the instruments very well. What you say about the construction of accuphase is like that, simply impressive. Unfortunately I had to sell the accuphase.

Looking forward to your review/comparisons of the E-380 between the E-280 and MA8950. I also love how you provide the names of artists and tracks you listened to. Conparing with other models , there are not much reviews of the accuphase e-800 ,
Jay didnt quit like the price/ quality ratio of this amp ( which it can , and is understandable coming from a reviewer that almost always review high end ), on the other side theres a very ...very positive review from a well respected spanish reviewer ( at the point of prefering this to the mac 120000 , to pass labs pre -power combo , and even d',agostino progression integrated ) ,
Now ....reviewers apart , stil makes me think why nobody else reviews it ? ( while for the 4000, and 5000 , there are plenty of reviews)

You sure can’t beat the build quality of Japanese products, recently bought a Luxman in the same price range, what made me stay clear of Accuphase was the extra cost for a Phono Preamp, I can see that for DAC’s because of future upgrades but not the Phono. Certainly nice looking gear. 👍

My experience with a brand new E-280 paired with Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage, is that the magic began at approximately the 180-200 hour mark. The 280 integrated is a solid-state endgame piece for me.
