    I know some of you might not care for these sorts of guns and knives as much, but I'm fond of just about anything that shoots. If you're young and all caught up in nothing but fast shooting and machineguns, that's okay, but try to branch out at some point and develop an appreciation for the firearms that won us our freedom, as well as those that help to ensure it today.

    This needs restored as a Large Event!!! This event promotes the basics and foundation of Firearms. Even if you're not a black powder shooter watching and understanding this is important!!!!

  • @hickok45
    @hickok45  13 лет назад

    @MrGoosePit , It's called a Possibles Bag, mainly for muzzle loading accessories (powder, balls, etc.). I bought it here at Friendship about 11 years ago. It's great for large events such as this, as you are a long way from your car normally and can carry water with you or items you purchase in it. Plus, at this event, it's a very common "man purse" to see. There are several makers of them there displaying their craftsmanship. Mine is elk skin, a real beauty.

    @mindeloman, LOL, Well, I explained to him that we do videos on RUclips. He was fine with talking about his craft and such. I just love his stuff, so I hope he does sell a couple extra pieces for putting up with us a few minutes. After we stopped gabbing with him, I bought the throwing axe I was holding, and John bought the throwing knife I showed in the video.

  • @hickok45

    @MrAk47master, No, it's a competition, and while I'm fond of the old "charcoal burners," I've never competed with them. The only temptation there is that silhouette range; if I had a way to practice at those ranges a little, it might be fun to shoot the Enfield at those things.

    @lurch2150, Unfortunately, that happens too often in the gun business. Just start a thread on any popular gun forum about ill-tempered gun shop clerks / owners or gun show dealers; then step back. I recommend everybody in the country regularly start threads on gun forums in your area about this. For example: "Gun shops where they seem to be glad you came in," or "Most helpful, cordial gun shops," or your "favorite gun shop." It can be approached from the positive side.

    Great video. :O)
    I've always wanted to go to Friendship. I've been shooting muzzleloaders off and on since the mid 70's. I currently have a Clark Fraizer 'Matchmate' serial # 45 that he made for me in 1979. It's a work of art for sure and took 2 years to get. I also have a Jack Weichold heavy, full stock bench rifle made in 1947. It's a beauty too with tiger stripe maple. I've also had a couple of Lloyd Resor's rifles (bench & slug) but sold them to finance a motorcycle habit I got into. :O(

    @jewpowers, I agree. We almost didn't take any footage. We just went to enjoy the place and stuck a camera in our pocket. John and I both were too busy shopping for axes and such to do much filming. We'll go up sometime and get a really good video of it.

    Okay, so I just turned 18 and this is something I've been fascinated with since I was about 4. I used to live in Madison, Indiana which had a black powder competition for youth that I participated in(I always had fun shooting). Do you think I should get back into black powder competitions? Also, you should keep going back to Friendship. We may end up meeting out there one day.

    Went to Friendship a few times back in the early '80's, out of the Illinois Free Trappers. A great party with some great shooting, too. I was called "Boudins" for my sausage making skills. My video response is from our '84 (if memory still serves) "Frozen Butts Rondyvous" and I'm the one wearing the skunk hat and fur coat.

    @hickok45 - When I was 11 or 12 I was asked at a family BBQ if I wanted to shoot my uncle's muzzle-loader. "Sure," I said.
    I remember being given one of the balls for a keepsake and it must have been a .45 or .50 caliber. I don't have it anymore, so I don't know. Anyway, that thing kicked the hell out of my shoulder at that age, but it was quite the day that day, because my shot bested every one of the adults who shot before me. I knocked the centre out of the ringed target at 20 yards.

    Hickok sounds skeptical of the knives at the first blacksmith shop.
    "Some of these are damascus steel."
    "Mmm, yeah.... Yeah that's that's uh... Neat..."
    And imagine being the guy running that stand at 5:06. You're standing there, peddling your snake oil to some sap, that sap turns out to not be so sappy and calls you out, people laugh and you are paralyzed with the realization that a giant ogre is creeping around filming the entire incident.
