Not sure where Avery is against Reaves from? At least when Bruins face Leafs this year - Lucic doesn’t have to grab Marner to get his big smile. Reaves will be able to fight Lucic well. After taxes there's three players on Tampa making more money than Matthews and Marner. Yes the team pays more to compensate for Ontario taxes, but this is fair price for two player in the top 40 points/game all time in the NHL. What's not fair is a salary cap based on net income that's hinder all of Canada and even California. Who's been winning? Tampa? Florida? Dallas? Vegas? ...there's a trend that shows that low tax-rates win hockey games.
I agree with Avery. Reaves will be a healthy scratch & frequently. I don't think he's got the wheels to get in on the forecheck to 'scare' D going back on puck retrievals, as Reaves claims he will. Maybe I'm wrong, but he's 36 & I think Tree would've been better to resign Simmonds for league minimum of 775K & that would have saved 640K on the cap that they could have used & they wouldn't be committed to 3 f*cking years. Wayne is 34, a better skater, pays attention to D, so is less of a liability in my view. He's actually scored some goals in his career unlike Reaves, a signing that made zero sense to me. Simmonds should've played against the Florida rats like Bennett, Gubas, Montour & Tkachuk & maybe Bennett doesn't assault Knies, concussing him, knowing that Simmonds would have come after him.
