What scares me is I’m willing to bet what “not acting like a wife” probably mostly means is not having sex… I’ve seen way to many men like this use that term to refer to her not fulfilling her “wifely duties” because obviously she should have to anytime he wants regardless of her physical or mental health…

I am the step parent to a child who's other parent (that we coparent very well with) went through a divorce. We spoke openly with the now ex-step-father and encouraged him to reach out to us and spend time with our daughter as he was seen as another father. He never reached out never asked about her and ghosted us when we would reach out. We found out recently that him and his new partner almost named their new daughter, our daughters name and openly talked about how it was to "replace his lost -insert my child's name-" me, my partner, and our daughters other parent were so uncomfortable and confused by this. Thankfully they didn't name her that but it was a very weird situation.

The sawdust thing reminds me of a court case with a company selling 'granola bars' that were made to help you lose weight, and they were actually mostly saw dust. The court ruled that while it's not actually dangerous for people to eat saw dust, they do need to be informed that they are being fed saw dust so if the company wanted to continue operating in this way they'd have to put that on the list of ingredients.

Addendum, while it doesn't have to be dangerous when ingested in very small amountsfor a very small time, sawdust is definitely not harmless either. For one, you must be absolutely sure that the tree is not poisonous, and that there is nothing else in there besides sawdust, because you may very well poison someone if the wood has been treated with or exposed to chemicals etc. Secondly, sawdust can absolutely wreak havoc on the intestines, and can potentially cause permanent damage. It can even be lethal in the long term. Wood dust is also classed as a carcinogen.

My concern isn’t there’s no way this guy has access to food safe sawdust, he was either buying it or making it himself which means it was almost definitely chemically treated wood (as almost all store bought wood is) or wood from some random log with who knows what mixed with it.

I guess it depends a little on the situation but getting pregnant and then expecting your roommate to pick up the slack seems like...maybe not an asshole move, but certainly not the best possible idea. The pregnancy changes the entire dynamic and I don't think it's fair to assume that a roommate would just be okay with a baby in the picture, or for them to basically "be the dad".
BUT HE ACTUALLY WAS THE DAD!?! That's wild. I did a complete 180 there. From "OP shouldn't be expected to suddenly play dad just because they're the pregnant lady's roommate" to "YOU'RE THE ACTUAL FUCKING DAD, MATE, SO DO YOUR JOB!" Holy crap, what an asshole. The second boy also has a name that starts with a K, but his name was a very common traditional name in my mother's culture so that was okay. Then when I was 12, the third boy was born and his name was a regular English name, but instead of starting with a C, they decided to start it with a K (not so unlike my name). I felt a bit weirded out but it's not the biggest deal. When I was 19, the last boy was born, and his name shares the first 4 letters with my name. In school people constantly confused my name with that name. My aunts and uncles accidentally call us the wrong name now all the time.
I'm doing okay, I'm an adult now and this isn't going to cause any trauma. But my youngest cousin who practically shares a name with me will no doubt see the similarities and be affected by it. The "sawdust" one seriously made me angry and a bit terrified. I've dealt with depression for like 10 years now (better recently) and speaking just for me my eating habits and depression are related in the way that they both feed into each other. My depression gets worse it's harder for me to eat well and that makes the depression even worse and often when I'm able to start eating even a little bit better (which sometimes is due to depression getting a bit better and sometimes I just burn extra spoons for it) it makes my depression better. Sawdust is NOT THE FUCKING WAY to do it. I understand helping someone (with CONSENT) to eat better if that's not something that's easy for them, like maybe you can make sure there's a salad around so if they want to add that to their plate they can and things like that. But yeah, that sort of thing needs to be done with consent and clear boundaries, something like that is a violation on so many levels and she absolutely should leave him. 26:11 The fact that OP changed the wording so he would appear to be the obvious victim… I spent the whole time hearing the story going “how unreasonable, you can’t force your roommate to step into a parental role like that, of course it’s difficult to be a single mom but you can’t force responsibility on an acquaintance like that-“ but that twist, my gosh. 💀 OP’s wife needs to RUN, he is not in any way prepared to be a supportive partner or parent… or decent human being.

The first one reminded me of when I was a kid, neither of my parents worked, my school wasn't even a 5 min drive and my dad would still make me late all the time cus he'd always say we have time when we indeed did not have time.

For the first post, the man doesn't just not know how to be a father, he simply doesn't know how to be an adult. By the sounds of it, the house wasn't just messy, it was disgusting. My house gets messy sometimes, having 2 kids that just happens. However, it's only ever toys being around the house. It's never dirty. The dirtiest it ever gets is if we have a baking day and there's flour in the kitchen.
Sometimes you run behind and are late for things, that happens with kids, but getting to the point that the school call is outrageous. I used to be late for school on the day that my mum didn't have work (we lived too far to walk and my mum trashed my bike as a punishment, side note I paid for that bike with my own money) it got to a point I'd walk in and say "mums not at work today" the lady in the office would sign me in and just move on because it happened literally every week. I usually have to sit in the car for a bit or go to the local park because we are so early. My children will never be late for anything important.

is such a deeply ableist and disgusting thing to say. Some of us are disabled, some of us have executive functioning disorders. We are STILL adults. People like you made me hate myself to the extent that I still suffer from extreme self-hate. Just try to fucking think about existing outside of your bigoted box.

Omg the ‘roommate’ one sent me. I’m pregnant rn and I’ve been very sick like the OPs wife and I used to be very high functioning and loved to cook and clean. I haven’t been able to do any of it!!! And my partner has been amazing, supporting me through everything and doesn’t expect anything of me. When I thought the story was just about an actual roommate I was a bit like I get your not happy with this situation but be kind she’s going through a lot, but when I found out it was the husband my jaw literally dropped. How can someone be so inconsiderate and horrible, not even willing to do the minimum and be compassionate. Actual trash

With that first one, I will say, vacuum, washing the floor, cleaning surfaces, that sort of thing, even cleaning the wc, you only need to do it once a week. That's enough, at least once a week. Shouldn't be that hard. And if you keep it clean, it's much quicker and easier to clean, than if you let it collect dust for a couple weeks or months. All the other days that you don't clean, it's just a matter of looking around for things to do.
Things you should do every day is, get the kids to school on time, getting them home again, providing the kids and potentially the rest of the household with breakfast, dinner, and potentially lunch. Dishes should be cleaned at least once a day. I live alone, so I just collect dishes throughout the day and wash them after dinner. If you can keep up with this, that's good enough. It's much easier to keep it clean, than to clean.

The dad with his gay comment had me in tears laughing 😂 when I came out to my mom I called her. I didn't check if it was a good time or anything because I figured she'd be fine with it as she's never said anything to make me think otherwise. Well I must have caught her at a bad time because after I told her it was her getting off the phone in a way that felt rushed with ak "ok baby. I gotta go now." I sat in the bathroom & cried because I thought she was upset. I find out the next day she was just busy & didn't think about how I would take her getting off the phone so quickly 😂 She's one of my best friends as an adult & loves my wife so much! Its funny now, like you said, but in the moment it definitely hurt!

I feel so bad for the gf in the last post. I hope she finds out and leaves him. Also, just assuming here, but I'm curious if Op would make her feel bad for gaining weight. The way he words this post, just gives me bad vibes from him. Why does her gaining weight bother him so damn much?? I understand if it's an unhealthy weight, but from this terrible post I'm assuming it's not. It sounds like he just cares about her weight because he's becoming less attracted to her. This dude is fucking awful. I hope at least the op or his brother tells her.

That poor child is going to be heartbroken when she figures it out. Not to mention the absolute bs exuse that was given of just liking a name. I have ADHD and can see myself having the same problems as the first guy with a routine, keeping a home organised and getting the kids to school on time. I wonder if he needs some support or just isn't suited to an organisational role like that. He could also be depressed after losing his job. We probably don't know enough about his attitude/reasons to say.

It's shocking just how wholeheartedly demeaning people got over someone just not managing household chores. Granted, I wouldn't think he's necessarily in the right, he could well just be playing incompetent to "make a point" and it's just wrong to neglect the kids. But also could be he's got genuine issues suddenly managing all the new responsibilities right after losing a job.
The message feels very "have you tried just not having executive dysfunction" either way.

@@spookyspaghett1 He fucked up and neglected his children. Whatever his reasons may be, that is bad, that's true. I don't know his life, so I can't say if he did or did not have any kind of mental issues or neurodivergency or whatever else.
The main issue we're pointing out here is fully assuming he didn't have any issues and it's solely his moral failing to not manage the situation correctly. That kind of attitude can be unproductive and harmful in the actual situation (maybe he specifically needed to be told off, I don't know), but more importantly broadcasting that kind of attitude sends a cruel and potentially harmful message towards the neurodivergent and mentally ill by invalidating any struggles one may face maintaining "normal" function.
