Strange, I just happened to be at the theater across the street from Northern Arizona U in Flagstaff when I watched this movie. 4 months later, I was playing this movie at my movie theater in California. Great movie and the crowd use to laugh their heads off when they watched some of the scenes.

Great sequence. I've always loved the score of PYW!! It is such an under-rated show. Just love the male choral numbers of this show; they're even more powerful in live performances than the filmed version.

So then your dad was Robert Penn! I've loved this show and the cast album all my life. I've even met an original cast member, dancer Stu Hodes, now well into his 90's!

@@feralbluee Alexa, thanks for responding! I am in Brooklyn, New York, have been all my life and being a theater person I am very lucky to be near a town that's the center of it all. I waited a very long time to see a stage production of 'Wagon' but finally did a few years back at Encores!, and thank goodness, it was done by people who had respect for the original show and with the original script. Today, more often than not they take it upon themselves to write a new script for it and I'm sure the results are much worse. What can I say, I'm a purist. I'm sure I heard your Dad in something else, was it the Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella? 'The Prince is Giving a Ball'? I used to study to sing that myself, I'm a performer as well. Gonna have to look that up. Great hearing from you!

The film version of "Paint your wagon" is fantastic. I think Amazon has it on CD.

What a nice performance, they are good, actors and singers! I am from Denmark (EU) and thought there would be no light opera in Arizona or Southern Arizona, but there is, indeed there is and it is good. Did you get enough performances to and support to make it profitable or is it like here (no opera without financial support here!)

I've seen the film version of "Paint Your Wagon". I didn't find it all that great. First off, hiring non-singers and then not even dubbing them was a big mistake. Eliminating the bulk of the score and replacing it with lower-grade songs wasn't that great an idea either. Even though the original libretto had some problems, it's still miles better than the rewritten libretto for the film.

I guess the verse of the song sung in Chinese by the Chinese miner would be considered too racist now.
