I got covid for the first time this year and am now dealing with long covid. It's so frustrating and so many people just don't understand or refuse to empathise when I ask for help for basic things. My breathing is not even back to normal yet, and that's the most frustrating thing. I'm so limited to what I'm able to do, but I'm grateful I'm not worse and that I have a job I can do remotely.

I know someone who walked alot everyday. After getting covid and suffering from long covid, walking became much more exhausting, but after doing it everyday again it became more and more like before, be it not totally restored. I suggest you try that out to reduce the limitation.

I’m in the same boat, got COVID in january and got really sick. I went from running half marathons, working on my study and business to not being able to even walk up stairs, sometimes I couldn’t even think. Everyone says it’s gonna be alright but they don’t feel what you feel. It might help you to talk to other people dealing with long COVID to see that they share your struggles

I was the only person in a car of 4 after a week of traveling together that got covid. It’s been almost 3 years since then. At the time I struggled with all of the symptoms she describes especially that first week. Afterwards I had fatigue for months, couldn’t taste or smell for over a year. I still have recurrences of those symptoms but they are not long lasting; all of a sudden I can’t taste a meal or think clearly…that was the hardest…get fatigue for no reason.
Eventually, I had to shift my focus too.

Beautiful and moving. I saw this piece in The NY Times last December and wept.
I’ve had Long Covid since 2020 and have been in and out of a wheelchair, lost my independence, cardiac issues and my immune system is now so weak I can’t be around others without a mask so I’m unable to be social.
Those who haven’t lived this can’t comprehend how painful it is to have a debilitating illness that has been politicized and scoffed at as a “hoax”. It exponentially increases the difficulty. When you have MS or Lupus, no one tells you your illness is a hoax and part of the “deep state”. People don’t cough in their faces and hurl insults.
It’s also made more difficult by the fact that billions of people have had Covid. Most don’t get Long Covid and lack the empathy to comprehend that everyone’s bodies and experiences are different.
Love to all of the other members of this community.

If i had to put a timeframe on it id say long covid affected me for a good 18 months, and ive haven't felt 100% since. I can't rememeber most of 2020 without looking at photos. Too much exercise would set me back a lot and at the time we werent allowed out for more than an hour or something. The only thing i think I would do differently is walk a lot more. Which is more than a lot of long covid sufferers can do.

Trying to understand and visualize a debilitating illness which medicine doesn’t understand and can’t treat, is narcissism?
I’ve been dealing with this illness for 4 years and have also had to take meticulous notes, measurements of patterns in food, sleep, pain, etc.
American health care providers aren’t equipped or motivated to explore novel viruses for which there is no known treatment. All of the advances I’ve made in my recovery have been due to revelations discovered via my own data. We have to aggressively self-advocate and often still don’t get adequate care. Empathy goes a long way.

@@squarepeg4435yea don’t bother arguing with the ignorant. I had a similar issue diagnosing my severe stomach complications, took 5 years of recording down everything I ate to figure out what triggered or made symptoms worse. Allergies, ibs. Crohn’s, etc doctors couldn’t ever figure out anything. In fact most all of them, even the “specialists” looked at me like a fool when I said I think the food I eat was behind many of my issues. Anyways point is, mainstream medicine exists to sell a solution (treat a symptom) , not to solve the problem or cause. You must do the 2nd part yourself
