Our son Aaron is 22 years old and has autism and an expressive/receptive language disorder along with other impairments. He never ceases to amaze us on a daily basis. Some of his quirks make us giggle. Other people would think we’ve all lost our minds but it’s always better to laugh than cry. There is way too much sorrow in this world. Let’s keep it light! Giggle along with me! 😊
I am a retired elementary teacher. I had a student who had Asperger’s. Seeing the world through his eyes was so neat. He too kept me in stitches. God bless you and your family for just enjoying Aaron’s unique view of the world.
My grandson has autism. Thankful for all the therapies that are available. Davis very rarely has meltdowns, but when he does, the best thing his just let him pull himself together. He’s adorable. He spent sunday riding his Segway scooter while wearing a dinosaur suit. He’s 13
My youngest sister says to put things around you (in your journals/treasure books) that make you smile. Therefore, anything you place in your journal does have a function, to make you feel happy. I have learned so much from you and your mama. Everything you do exudes fun and happiness. Thank you two.
Your stories are so fun. Life with children is never dull! My brother was a bottomless pit also! I think it's something to do with how fast they grow and their metabolism. My Mom canned lots of fruit in the summer. We would find empty quart jars in my brother's room. We always lived far from grocery stores so he had to raid the Celler or the freezers for "extras". Love how quickly these clusters and labels go together! Thanks for sharing everything with us. You make my mornings happy!
❤this inspired me so much l like the layering and actually have some longer strips l can use as belly bands or side tucks. You take basic papers and create something unique. Thank you Melina😊
I just love your energy and the way you keep things "real"...and I love that you said our journals can/should contain things that have no purpose beyond being pretty and making us feel good.
This one is going into my FAV scrap busting folder.....'m going to have a ton of scraps by the end of the green market season. I signed up for every Saturday. Lots and lots of crafting in my future.
I love your ability to cope with your son's different ways of seeing things. I know it can be challenging, but he is a sweet, loving person and you have done such a good job with him. I think crafting and doing things that are "no brainers" is very THERAPEDIC too! I say that a lot, it works well for me. I love these little labels and clusters. Thanks for sharing with us.
Hi, Melina, love when you’re yourself & just talk & laugh! How is your son able to sing & remember all the words & everything! I’ve watched him sing & you’d never know there’s anything wrong with him! I’m sorry that things are kind of rough right now! Keeping you & your family in my prayers! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Oh I really loved this tutorial, what a great idea, will definitely be doing these. You were so funny today, love the stories , we have a grandson with autism he is only 4 and still can't string a proper sentence together, but loves nannie hugs, he hugs me so tight bless him. But you really brightened my day, love hearing you giggle, we all need more laughs in our day, thankyou Melina ❤
Our daughter will soon be 50 and we have experienced many of the same issue as you and your family. You do the best you can in the moment of a “come apart” and we generally laugh about it later, because that helps us cope. We have two other children and when they were growing up they found her behavior embarrassing, now as they look back they all have funny Angie memories. You have to love them thru the melt down as they are trying to work thru it and behave, however there are times it just comes spurring forth no matter how hard they are trying to control it. Prayers for strength during these trying family times.
Love all your ideas and how you take time to explain things to us. I’m amazed at how you come up with all these ideas. I watch your Mom Edith y’all are just amazing to me love y’all. Continuing to pray for your family ❤️😘
I know exactly what you’re talking about. My Cousin Johnathon is Mentally Handicapped. He was born w/Water on the Brain & at the time, our Hospital wasn’t capable of handling it or to be able to put in the shunt he needed, so off to Sick Kids in Toronto they went. Not for the first time either. There was one Winter where they were air ambulanced out 6 or 7 times because the Shunt had gotten clogged. Anyway, Johnathon’s now in his mid 40’s, but he’s got the mind of a Toddler. He repeats a lot & always wants to come & clean your house. He gives the best hugs & is the sweetest soul that I know. One of the really eerie things though? He’s so into Country Music, all Johnathon needs to hear is one or two notes of a song & he’ll tell you who/what band it is & what song it is. He’s always right too. He got to meet Toby Keith the year before the Pandemic w/his Parents (his Dad’s my first Cousin) & Toby gave him a signed guitar. His Mom Joanne was thanking him, but explained that due to the Strokes he’s had the last few years, his right side is badly affected & he doesn’t have the mobility in that hand & arm like you need to play. That lovely man told her to go online here to YT & look up Dolly Parton & how she plays guitar or the harpsichord, as she doesn’t really pluck the strings, but does it in a claw shaped manner. Toby told her that he bet if Jonathon was able to do that, then he’d be able to play a guitar. Joanne was amazed that someone like Toby Keith would be that interested in making sure Jonathon could play that guitar & would do that for her Son. Not me. I’ve heard too many stories from Friends who’ve done Tours in Iraq & Afghanistan where he went to entertain them & that’s Toby!! They’ve now got a Playlist of Dolly videos that they watch whenever he wants to try & play his Guitar & he does have a hard time still, but he’s slowly getting the hang of it. He also sings & when his Dad retired from Hydro One here in Ontario, they had a big Retirement Party for David & Jonathon wanted to sing a song for him at the Party. So they said that sure he could do that. He comes down an hour or so later & proclaims, “I know what I’m singing at Daddy’s Party : Take This Job & Shove It!!” 🤣🤣🤣 They got that idea out of his head fast!! He ended up doing The Green Grass Of Home & was one of the highlights of the night. 😁😁😁 As you say though, you just have to laugh about it or you’ll just keep crying. I’m so sorry about your Great Aunt. That’s how I’m feeling about The Queen’s passing as well. It’s sad to say Goodbye, but as little Prince Louis said to his Dad Prince William, “It’s good Granny’s in Heaven w/Grandpa. She’s not alone & he’ll take care of her.” Out of the mouths of Babes... Keeping on praying for your Cousin. Things are the same w/my Friend’s Son, which is a good thing, but at the same time...You know what I’m talking about. Thanks for sharing this & what’s been happening w/your Family. We all need places to share after all. 😊 You all Take Care down there!! 😊
I have the same mat and love it, too! It’s a great look! Those “uglies” are sure a challenge sometimes, but it makes us more creative and adds to the fun! Good job!
My grandson has austism and yes, life is intetesting to say the least. He is very special to me and we are truly blessed. Love the scrapbusters and i have some ugly paper I can use now.
Thank you for sharing your journey with Aaron. Our adult niece has Asperger's so I can understand some of your journey. Your family has an amazing way of handling the extra struggles Aaron has gone through. I'm proud of how well my in laws also took on the extra challenges. Our niece is now living on her own and working in the community for the same company probably close to 5 years now! It did take her awhile to find the right job for her. We are proud of all of our nieces and nephews but especially her. It was a blessing to watch her achieve things the "experts" said she would never obtain. God is good! TFS! Hugs and from South Dakota.
My nephew is autistic and he has episodes like that, but it’s usually when his schedule is severely disrupted or something happens that he doesn’t understand. He fixates on things that trouble him a lot. He eats a lot too. I’m wondering if maybe it’s a form of comfort for him. He does make us laugh though. He does have a good sense of humor. I couldn’t imagine life without him. 🥰
Hi Melina, you make me laugh. That "ugly" paper you have in your pile, I would make a snippet with. The tiny pieces come in handy when you do master boards. But that's just me. You do you. I love these tags. Thank you for sharing. Prayers for you and your family. I would ask prayer for my daughter, she is fixing to go to Romania on Missions. Thank you.
Take one day at a time and go with the flow. My grandpa born in 1900 said to put the little things in your picket. So your back is available to carry the big burden you need to deal with. Hadn't thought that saying until you were talking about the up and downs in your life. Big hug with prayers for you all.
Love this idea. My youngest is 34, has Down Syndrome and is my greatest gift from God. I can relate to everything you said; especially the part about it must be their idea.
Love this idea! Super cute way to use up my "ugly" papers I just can't throw away 🙂 my cousin is high functioning autistic and it has honored me to know his beautiful spirit and mind blowing skills since he was a toddler. Hope you get to 20k soon! You're doing great 👍
Bless them, their brain shuts down. It closes off and until his body lets him, he can’t lower that reaction. He sounds like a lovely guy. Routine is one of the most important things and coping outside that routine isn’t going to happen. We need to smile and cope with the sad idiots who can’t understand!
Very beautiful georgeos labels, clusters I 💖 it u do amazing excellent awesome job I admire that in u very much 💖💐🤗👍🥰 My prayers r with u, family God bless u, Melina u r awesome , amazing lady
New to your channel and happy to have found you. Thanks for the new idea! Can’t wait to go see more of your videos and your 1 subscriber closer to 20,000. Congratulations
I like those quick and easy. That was cute about Aaron, it's good that you can take things lightly, guess that was not his usual Wednesday, out of the norm for him, bless his heart. My friend has a son who has Autism, he has one bag of chips he eats and only o n e, so they go to grocery store to by a bag and he knows his bag by the colors on the bag and they none, so his dad ask a clerk if he would look in their stockroom, lucky he was a nice clerk, he said if we can't find a bag, we are going to have a big meltdown right here, the clerk went and checked and lucky he found a bag so all was ok.
New subscriber. Julie sent me over from Camelia Crafts Designs. This is a good idea. I have some of those wild paper scraps. I agree with you on that piece you didn't like. But it worked well.
I was just going along enjoying your crafting and lunch story when you said "the Eva Exxon" !!! I had just found you and subscribed, and then realized you live close to me! I'm just a couple miles from the Hwy 67 and 36 4-way stop, and we have good "gas station" food there too😊 I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos ❤️
Welcome!! Yes y'all do! We stop there often when we are heading to Priceville. I grew up off of Antioch Road in Somerville! I went to Cotaco Elementary alsol :)
@@MelinaPylant Small world sometimes! I went to Cotaco... started 6th grade there the last year it was a high school (1971). Now I live very near Antioch Rd, on Herman Bailey Rd (straight across from the Duke family, if you know any of them. House builders, extroidinaire🙂) Mr. and Mrs. Ellinger still live across the road from the school, and women who graduated from Brewer with my children fill several of the teaching positions. My youngest grandchild is in 7th grade there now!
I love bright colours. But with "ugly" papers, I use a fern or botanical die, on say a tag and then put the paper you don't like behind it. I then glue it on to an index card and cut around the tag. Looks good and you wouldn't even know what design it was
You are such an angel. Thanks so much for sharing your stories. My husband is from the south and the best food we have ever had is from the gas station. I agree with Aaron!! Also, I am sitting here creating these clusters from the EXACT same paper!!! So thanks again. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like these, I'm working on something else while watching you but I will be making some of these. I love your stories I was a mental health nurse for many years and I worked with those who had physical, mental and developmental problems including autistic adults. They all are unique and have personalities that I loved. Yes there were days when you ask yourself why did I choose this profession but then in the next minute you're beaming with pride. It's ok to get frustrated but as long as you remember they're not acting out against you, it's the inner demons for lack of a better word that control them and it's only temporary. Thanks for sharing Melina. 🙂❤️
It's always a good feeling when they acknowledge they are doing something to calm themselves down. It's just rough getting them calmed down enough to think and realize THEY need to calm down and it isn't you that is the problem. Lol finding the ridiculous in the situations and laughing about them I have found helps my own state of mind. I'm sure you've found that is true. Also a big change in my own mind was realizing 'God doesn't make mistakes. It isvthis way for a reason.' Of course it would help even more to know why right up front, but part of the journey is realizing the why. God be with you and yours during yours and his journey.
I feel you with Aaron's thought processes, and agree, that one needs to laugh over issues or else we'd die cryin'. I raised two boys with learning difficulties. They're smart as all get out after they finally understand what is expected of them or asked of them; it's just that weird space in time between you expecting somethin' and when they finally understand what it is that you are asking of them. It didn't help that my youngest son has hearing issues on top of the learning difficulties. We still have white potatoes and red potatoes which in reality is a potato and a tomato. Or we use ungises not onions. Even at 40 years old, he still talks and spells based on what he hears instead of what the words actually are. I also appreciate the phrase 'flappin' my gums.' I am Michigan born and raised and when I hear born and raised southern folks say the same things I grew up sayin', well, I feel a little more at home havin' chosen Georgia as my place for the rest of my life. Pink is a girlie girl color and I've been a tom-boy since I was real little. I'm not all up into brown and green, but I don't do pink at all!! My two girls wore earth color clothing up until they started choosing their own colors.
Melina your husband and you are wonderful understanding parents very good parents for your son I know at first it would be hard but you’s have ace it thank you for all your love and understanding also your great project’s thank you and god bless you and family 😊 Theola
Hi my son is 41 in Friday he is autistic and I understand what you mean . My Adam is so sweet and he can do alot . But I nearly lost him when he was 18 respiratory arrest. He has asthma. He stopped breathing and because I did a first aid course when he was 5 , I was told I saved his life . God bless Karen and family in Australia.🐨🦘🏴🇬🇧🇭🇲
Oh Melina this is Linda. Your story was absolutely beautiful. I have a brother with downs syndrome and my family have hilarious days like yours. He is hours of entertainment. Am enjoying your tutorial today absolutely fabulous. Your work is beautiful. 😂 Take care. 🦘🇦🇺
From what I've read about Autism, for those having it, anything outside their realm of "normal," throws them for a loop. You and your husband are doing a great job. May God bless you and your entire family.
I get that, I have a 32 year old autistic boy.. their minds think so differently than the rest of us…. And it is all good…. James needs to read what is to be going on. We write a huge amount. And that works. It works…. James will do any thing I ask him to do.. I have to ask and if it is specific I need to write it out.
Oh yes, we have lived with 22 years of different processing. No reasoning sometimes for the meltdowns. We just have to ride them out and keep calm. ....and giggle sometimes instead of cry our eyes out when we don't understand how to help or what we are doing wrong.
I typed in Postage Stamp scissors on Amazon in the search line. Most of what I found were sold in sets. Fiskars Contemporary Paper Edgers Scissors set$14.94 per set of 6 different styles of cutting edge. I hope that helps. I have that set of scissors. They work well.
Hi! Welcome! I use a glue stick sometimes, Art Glitter glue and Bearly Arts glue too. Then I use Scor Tape (double sided tape). All of the adhesives I use can be found on our website: www.scrapbookingwithme.com
Hello Mellina could you please tell me what it is you use for your icing bottles to cap them ? I have searched the web and put all kinds of words in and nothing is telling me what it is , thank you so much in advance ❤️❤️❤️
I insert a stainless steel needle and use the icing caps we sell in the shop that go with them. www.scrapbookingwithme.com and type in caps in the search bar. They should pull right up for you. 🙂

We have two sons with Aspergers and ADHD so I can relate to your need for giggles and laughter.
Hugs to you and your family,

My grandson has autism. Thankful for all the therapies that are available. Davis very rarely has meltdowns, but when he does, the best thing his just let him pull himself together. He’s adorable. He spent sunday riding his Segway scooter while wearing a dinosaur suit. He’s 13
Thank you for sharing that w/us. Now I’ve got that great image in my head & has me doing this : 😁😁😁

I have learned so much from you and your mama. Everything you do exudes fun and happiness. Thank you two.
Absolutely!
Your stories are so fun. Life with children is never dull! My brother was a bottomless pit also! I think it's something to do with how fast they grow and their metabolism. Sweet, God picked you for Aaron❤️🙏🏻🎉You have such a sweet loving soul, Aaron is greatly blessed and so are you🙏🏻🙏🏻
All these your making out of scraps are so beautiful wow. I need to get all my scraps pieces out now. Great video, love ❤️ it.
❤this inspired me so much l like the layering and actually have some longer strips l can use as belly bands or side tucks. You take basic papers and create something unique. Thank you Melina😊

Hi, I watch you all the time but I don’t comment because my typing is not very good, but I in joy watching your videos very much.
Melina I had lots of bold pieces left over from a journal I made for a neighbor's teen. Great idea! The ones you made are so cute!
👍🏻Love the clusters with the book page. They turned out beautiful.

House builders, extroidinaire🙂) Mr. and Mrs. Ellinger still live across the road from the school, and women who graduated from Brewer with my children fill several of the teaching positions. My youngest grandchild is in 7th grade there now!
Designs by BLO - I love this idea! Thanks Melina :-)
Guarding his chicken fingers lol that was all so funny.
Very beautiful gorgeous collage labels I 💖 it
Love ❤️ these!!
I LOVE YOUR LABELS. I ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS AND YOUR MOMS!
Great video lots of inspiration
Melina your husband and you are wonderful understanding parents very good parents for your son I know at first it would be hard but you’s have ace it thank you for all your love and understanding also your great project’s thank you and god bless you and family 😊

these look awesome XXX
From what I've read about Autism, for those having it, anything outside their realm of "normal," throws them for a loop. You and your husband are doing a great job. May God bless you and your entire family.
TFS 🤗 This was a good therapy session! 💕
I’m a retired 40-year special Ed teacher. I love this….
Thanks!
Wow, thank you so much!
Just found your channel. Want to use your scrap trimming idea. I have years of scraps, so some of mine might find the round file. (Don’t tell anyone.)
love these XXX
💜
I have an idea not sure if it'll work
Try punching a piece of extra fine sandpaper 😁😁😁😁
What if you punched holes in aluminum foil? Would that sharpen the punches?
I get that, I have a 32 year old autistic boy.. their minds think so differently than the rest of us…. And it is all good…. James needs to read what is to be going on. We write a huge amount. And that works. It works…. James will do any thing I ask him to do.. I have to ask and if it is specific I need to write it out.
I have family members who are on the spectrum. And to me it is just that they process differently than we are used to .
Oh yes, we have lived with 22 years of different processing. No reasoning sometimes for the meltdowns. We just have to ride them out and keep calm. ....and giggle sometimes instead of cry our eyes out when we don't understand how to help or what we are doing wrong.
@@MelinaPylant yes that’s exactly how it is for us too . I’m glad you talk about it
It definitely gives me strength.
Yes change triggers thought
What was the tool used to make the ticket corners. Love your videos.
We have to laugh,,life is to short to not enjoy any moment we can
I’m not having any luck finding stamp edged scissors. Any ideas.
@@loriericks3243 thanks!
Es they have a few of them on Amazon and also at Walmart
I’m a new subscriber and was wondering what type of glue do you use?
Hi! Welcome! I use a glue stick sometimes, Art Glitter glue and Bearly Arts glue too. Then I use Scor Tape (double sided tape). All of the adhesives I use can be found on our website: www.scrapbookingwithme.com
Thank you.
Have to ask, if you didn't like them how did they end up in your scraps. Wouldn't you have had to use it in something to have it as a scrap?
I'm given many items to show and use on my channel. As an influencer, I must use them to continue receiving items to use and show on my videos. :)
@@MelinaPylant thank you so much Melina, I’m in the uk though, do you know how much shipping will be ? Or could I get them here ? Xx
Schedule changes throw them off there game.
I call the smell, new barbie smell!
