Mr. Dorsey taught me a lot! it's a shame the new principal is getting rid of programs in the Performance Arts program where even now famous Jason Derulo graduated from. =( that upsets me! I don't know where I'd be without DCA! Dillard High My Dillard High!! =)

Five years later, I would love to know what all of these young talented adults are doing today. How are they earning a living and are they still even playing at all? Musicians need audiences, not more teachers. Reboot America Musically.com

Hey dick, I'm the guitarist from the band. Most of my peers are still playing music.
Russell Hall, one of the bassists is a touring jazz musician who graduated from Julliard and was featured in an HBO documentary with Wynton Marsalis and another former Dillard student, Patrick Bartley. Patrick graduated from the Manhattan School of Music and recently performed an original concert work at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC as part of their summer concert series. Needless to say they are living pretty well for being fresh out of school, also considering they went to school for free. Some of the other musicians are still finishing up school but regularly play in the city where they live. Some jazz, some other genres. Our piano player from 2011 is signed to DJ Khaled's music label and recently went Platinum in Australia. As for myself, I went to school in New york city as well but for photography. Currently I am at the rhode island school of design pursuing my mfa in photography, however I recently released an album which has gotten good reviews both in the US and the UK.
Our class was very lucky to have many talented musicians who all care very deeply about their craft. I am proud to call them my friends and fellow artists as I see a great majority of them succeeding in their careers at such a young age.

Many of the graduates from this band are touring and some are making their own music. A handful of them come back to our annual summer jazz camp as clinicians. Im currently taking lessons with the lead trombonist here, Kirby Fellis. Theyre all amazing musicians and people :)

The bass player Russel Hall is good but I think he should play a little bit more like Rodney Whitaker

A shame none of these young musicians will be able to earn a living playing this music.

    • @IanBenedict

That isn't always true. There are many teachers that are able to earn a living while doing gigs at the same time.

Dick Cully Actually, I know people in this video who are already making enough money to support themselves. However, I can see why you think that way.
