  • Jia Bin is a doctoral student at Michigan State University. Motivated by her own experiences as a person who stutters, Jia is pursuing a doctorate in CSD to assist those with communication challenges and to connect people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Jia is also no stranger to the NSA, currently serving as chapter leader for the East Lansing chapter along with being president of the Spartan Stuttering Group. Jia's advocacy extends internationally as well, where she serves as the co-founder of StammerTalk, a Chinese podcast on stuttering as a leader in the Chinese stuttering community.
    Christian from the NSA marketing team sits down the Jia for a conversation documenting her pivotal life experience, her path toward becoming a stuttering advocate, as well as her hope for the next generation of people who stutter.

    Great to hear your story, Jia! I had a similar experience while attending UT @Austin. I had to present results of a team project. I only had 3 minutes and it took me 1.5 minutes just to say my name. This was before the effective speech therapy I took in 1988.
