This is the best live version of any song in any genre of music, the tone of every instrument is just perfect so is the general mix. Dire Straits should have been prohibited to do studio works but instead record their stuff live xD.
I heard many different version of Dire Straits songs, but IMO the night they recorded this Live...I don't know..they just touch the sky...each song, the way the notes flow perfectly all the way, they didn t just played, they was into it, lost in it, best version ever 👏👏👏when music was MUSIC!!!!
Mel Collins on the sax. This intro is like a piece of heaven in rock music. They mastered this. I thank my brother for introducing me to this about 30 something years ago!
Dire Straits just take music to another level with this album . I’ve listened to it since it came out and it’s still as brilliant as it was then . Absolutely the best album ever .
After heard this song so many times It still drives tears to my eyes especially the long solo as only Mark Knopfler can play the guitar. Being capable over transferring your emotions on to the strings proves mastership.
Had Alchemy Live on cassette in the 80's while in high school. This still gives me the goosebumps as it did back then. Amazing guitar playing by Mark, actually amazing playing by all band members.
When I was young, i did not understand why my Mom loved to hear this old music from the sixties like Elvis Presley. This was in the early eighties. NOW, 36!!! years later after i heard this album for the first time, i can still listen to it every day. It´s M A G I C !!!! Mom, I can understand you know!!!! Love you!!!!
Haha, dad was Elvis and Johnny Cash, mum was Simon & Garfunkel and Neil Diamond. Sisters were crazy about Duran Duran and I mostly played this and Rainbow On Stage. Music wise I think 80's teenagers got the best deal ever. 😊
it may be old but by God its NEVER LOST its soul and beauty .... im a song writer and a musician of over thirty years. If i can pen one song in my life that has this soul and beauty i will die a happy man....... Bloody timeless.
Breathtakingly tight, accurate hits accents and played emotionally by the band, and played almost to perfection. Hearing this at 16 years old, was what helped make me want to be a pro Vocalist and quality live musician. I’m now 54 and still mesmerized by it. Thx for posting
The love of my life introduced my to this song way back when it was released. We split up some years later, but she'll always be the love of my life, and so the song.
This performance is in the top 5 of all rock and roll live shows, and the song is the very best one of all time: made that way by an extraordinary band the likes of which we will never see again and the guitar god that is Mark Knopfler.
Best best live album ever . Alchemy is a part of history that will never be repeated . The pinnacle of live performances where they actually live take there tracks to a different level . Mark , backing guys and the drummer that just picks up the pace at the perfect time ... never really to be repeated
Right there with you on the Alchemy album, the vinyl copy is one of my most prized possessions. AND I’m finally going to the Spanish City that MK sings about in this song in May this year 😊
i saw the Dire Straits live way back in 85; i was just 15 years the whole crowd was 30+ and singing every song with them; it was unbelievable how cool they were
As a Geordie, it’s so evocative. Spanish City was a funfair on Whitley Bay seafront. Knopfler is from Cullercoats, just a mile up the coast. Also, Sting is from Wallsend, about 3 miles away.
I'm from Northumberland too and I spent many happy hours as a teenager in the Spanish City in Whitley Bay during the early 1970s. Shame it's just a facade now.
one of the most amazing drummer i have ever listened to : it's one of my fav drummer , Terry Williams rules! the true ones know it :) the intro is magic the end is magic pure alchemy
maybe best live for cure,passion,arrangement,ideas...great musicians..they changed two songs..completely..once upon..and sultans..i am drummer..and grew up with their...THANKS ,HONOUR,ADORATION TO TERRY WILLIAMS...
First cd's I ever bought in nineteen eighty and something. Still astounds and amazes me today. This and Telegraph Rd are the best 25 minutes of live music you'll ever hear! And I've heard Freddie Mercury live! 😂
Alchemy live produced the best version of this and Sultans, in my opinion. The studio versions are great of course, but just don’t have the same electricity as the live performances.
thanks Mark and the Dire Straits, your touch on the guitar is divine.Going through a tunnel of love myself atm and listened to this 10 times the last 2 days and am blown away every time. All will be well!
The absolute best, thrilling, most stupendous, awesome, hands down, no arguments, don’t make me come up there, ass-kicking version of this masterpiece. What a fucking superb album Alchemy is! Wish I’d been there.
Was asked recently by a female friend what music I listen to. "Same song I've been listening to for the last thirty years" I responded. "What's that"? she asked. "Tunnel of Love" was my answer!
Took off her silver locket, said "remember me by this". She put her hand in my back pocket, I got a keepsake and a kiss. And in the roar of dust and diesel I stood and watched her walk away. Coulda' caught up with her easy enough, but something musta' made me stay. Been there. Makes the hair on my neck stand up, EVERYTIME!
Given that it's a female friend I'm suprised there aren't any "Tunnel of love" jokes. Which is good because this is too great a song to make crass jokes about.
I used to hear this song with my dad, he died a week ago so now in hearing this alone to feel he is still with me ❤️🕊
So sorry for your loss. This is my all time favorite song.
Lacrime solo lacrime sta versione e qualcosa di eccezionale
La migliore in assoluto, inarrivabile, da chiunque. Eric Clapton sull'attenti e muto.
One of the best songs ever.. .. the crowds were cool too....
Listening in June 2023.
This is without doubt one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. ..a masterpiece that's captures Dire Straits at the Peak of their powers.

Exactly my thoughts since always!
Well said.
Classic
I think Alchemy is the best live of all times. It's just perfect
One of the greatest performances of all time. The final few minutes are sheer, worldess joy.
This is THE performance, the BEST ever, full stop.
I feel that way about the first few minutes.
Assolutamente, anche per me 👑

The second, after Sultans of Swing - Alchemy live ; )
The second being Sultans of Swing - Alchemy live : )
Mel Collins on the sax. This intro is like a piece of heaven in rock music. They mastered this. I thank my brother for introducing me to this about 30 something years ago!
I agree. The intro is superb.
👍
it's been 30 years, and this song is still the epitome of joy to me. And this live version brings it to the stratosphere.
That outro makes me emotional everytime, I’m a 22 year old and I’m so grateful to have this great album on vinyl it will never leave my collection
Glorious 👌
Whatta beautiful song..
Mark Knopfler, hats off .
I actually think this is one of the greatest songs of all time
At the very least it's the very best version of a Dire Straits song ever recorded.
Chris K touché 👌
Me too!
I agree.. absolutely top 3 of humanitys best songs.. at least top 5
Despite sultan of swing was my top fav song, Tunnel of Love become my most frequently played song from DS many decades later.
Best live album ever recorded by a long way. Every song is top class. Love from Dublin Ireland 🍀
And on the 8th Day, God decided to create Mark Knopfler. Thank you, God.
Most beautiful solo in rock history

No throwing TV sets out of hotel windows, no bad boy image for publicity, but sold albums by the millions just by playing great music.
Dire Straits just take music to another level with this album . I’ve listened to it since it came out and it’s still as brilliant as it was then . Absolutely the best album ever .
Each Single one in the audience is so lucky to have witnessed this live. Priceless
Those lovely arpeggios Alan Clark plays at the 13m mark are just sublime. Just what the song needed.
Nothing beats listening to this album on vinyl.
Best live album ever. The best versions of all the songs are on this album.
Absoluty !!! Most greatest !!! Near the perfeccion !
Stop Islamic Conquest if Mark knopfler had lived during the Islamic evolution in Andalusia Sevilla, he would had rocked then. My Muslim opinion
abbas usef I'm not sure to understand but if you mean he would have pacify them by playing, I agree..
Stop Islamic conquest, I agree exept for "telegraph" for which I think no live is better than the studio version, as well as "private investig.."

I just can’t describe in words how MK makes the guitar talk (emotional chills)
MK is just music no words needs
MK is my second greatest guitarist AFTER DG
That saxophone intro lifts the song to a divine level, love it!
Amazing
Still got those goose bumps in 2020. One of my favorites for all the right reasons.

Great story Rob 🙂
