    SOTA is about getting it done, being resourceful and using the tools at your disposal to make the contacts. Squelch, mode, frequency, it doesn't matter. Each hill and day has its challenge and you rose to the occasion. Well done. -73 de KK7DAK

      Absolutely Jeff. I was determined to do that on 2 m yesterday. That was the challenge, not the climb or really the weather, although the wind chill would have become an issue eventually. HF is a bit easier when you can hide inside the summit shelter!

    Great job Fraser! 2m simplex is my favorite mode on SOTA. I also use my recorder on the FT3 and ID52 for SOTA and it also comes in handy for satellite work. Having the recording helps with logging and in understanding the callsigns. Glad your Mrs was able to join in the fun. 73, KI4ASK

    Great to see the lovely countryside as well as your improvised Yagi which is a great idea for SOTA. I'm sure the lunch was good after that!

    • @theradiorover
      @theradiorover  Год назад +1

      Cheers Phillip. The yagi also works well when mast mounted.
      The lunch was almost free after the waitress messed up the order and the owner had to intervene. We only paid for the coffee and cake!

    Well done on qualifying the Summit on 2m FM. The yagi clearly works well. Good to see Mo too, she has it right drinking tea 😉 All the best to you both. 73 Chris M0RSF.

      Mo has it sussed Chris. Next time I'll get her to wave the yagi around. 2 m is incredibly difficult from that location. Four out of the five contacts were pre-arranged! Just as well I know people. ☺️👍

    I'm just starting out doing VHF SOTA activations after doing only HF. It surprised me how far I can get sometimes. A beam definitely helps. Relate to the idea of coming up with challenge to keep it fresh. Great videos keep em coming.

    • @theradiorover
      @theradiorover  Год назад

      Thanks! VHF between two summits can be done over hundreds of km with just hand helds and decent whips. It is great fun. Good luck with your activations!
      Mu head is full of ideas for keeping it fresh. I just don't have enough time to do them all.

    Great video! 2M is a tough activation anywhere. I like the recording feature. It might come in handle doing SSTV on satellite pass from the ISS. Thanks for the video. 73

    Great to see Mo again too.. I still have to do my storm shelter activation video from the same day on a nastily windy summit here in EI!!

      Not the ideal spot for SOTA, I suppose you'd have to cross the water and hit the South Downs. Have you thought of WWFF or POTA? I bet there are loads near you.
