Thanks for the video. I saw this game before but I didn't know exactly how it was played. From video, it seems to play as elegantly as it looks. I especially love the map, which looks like it is modeled after an ancient Greek map.
Interestingly, the artist’s name Antonio Stappaerts is almost an anagram for SPARTEATES and SATRAPES which are Greek for Spartans and Satraps respectively. :)
This looks really interesting --- I love a good, tight two-player game, and to have one involving the Greeks and Persians sounds perfect. Thanks for the review. I wonder how it compares to the old Kosmos two-player Ancient Greece -themed game, Hellas.
Hellas is symmetrical, the god powers (cards) are single purpose and more like basic boosts, the map is modular and varies from game to game, thematically it’s about warring Greek city states, and the battle is deterministic without dice. I think there’s a place in one’s collection for both games. After seeing this and Joel’s review (drive thru games) I’ll likely place an order for it. If you have Hellas or Cyclades you can use their hoplites and ships for a visual upgrade.
@@juvigoat2168 Thanks you -- I picked up a secondhand copy of Hellas a short while ago but have not brought it to the table yet. And I have Cyclades on my shelves, so I will be able to follow your suggestion of a pieces swap!
Cool looking little game. I play a lot of games solo, so with this type of game I think you'd have to either house rule how to deal with that or be very forgetful.
