Shelly cared a lot more about how Vada felt about this big news than her own dad... Shelly connected more with Vada as a parental figure and as a woman than her own father. He barely gave her the time of day that she needed as his daughter. Shelly shows up for a job interview and lives next to them and has offered to get to know his daughter and connect with her. They have a much better relationship than her and her dad. I think a big part of it could be that Vada reminds her father too much of his wife who died very young and that could be why he never paid attention to her (possibly due to fear of facing his grief?). Not that it's healthy in any way, but just trying to make sense of it... Vada's emotions are completely valid, though...
Very appropriate song for bumper cars ride. That song was released right around the time I was born, 55 years ago this time. It’s April 2024 as I post my comment.
Lol 😂 I love the way Vada kept her face all serious when she and Shelly were riding the bumper cars! When they gave each other thumbs Vada was like "Bitch You're In Trouble Now!" Lol 😂
Yes, the way she looks as if she’s just received bad news(like someone in the family has just died, or has cancer) and not good news. Kids do tend to take pieces of news like a single parent-whether divorced or widowed-remarrying, quite hard as they know what’s coming next-changes in the household and family. And eve though this is beside the point here, (about divorce), the reason little kids take it very hard when their parents get a divorce is simply because they’re too young to know and understand the facts of life; that the reason for divorce is in general the marriage isn’t working out. Thus living with only one parent in a calm household is far better than living with both parents who are constantly at each other’s throats. And similarly, while a widowed parent loved the deceased parent, still, loving someone who’s in heaven isn’t nearly as satisfying. And when Harry met Shelly, they each found someone they liked and then fell in love with, plus Vada finally realized she could use a mother figure, of course. And so she finally learned to live with it and welcome Shelly into the family (even if it had mostly to do with suddenly losing Thomas Jay.)

It's interesting on how one moment Jamie Lee Curtis falls in love with Dan Ackroyd in this movie and its sequel, three years later, the next moment, 10 years later, in Christmas With the Kranks, she's afraid of him (all because of Tim Allen's plot to skip Christmas), and he begs with her to "give us Frosty!", while driving down Hemlock St.! I love those two so much, and I'm sure Eddie Murphy (of Trading Places), Anna Chlumsky, as well as Tim Allen does, too.
No you will not receive a DUI if you drive intoxicated...they are bumper cars/vehicles that move around in an enclosed space --- now if you leave the carnival and then decide to drive your automobile while intoxicated then you will receive a ticket and a DUI.
I always thought it was wrong how the dad and shelly just sprung their engagement on Vada like that. She had every right to be upset
Poor Vada :(

To this day this scene takes me out😂
2:53-Vada all like “God help you, (Unwanted and Unwelcome) future stepmom!” And the “deadly” look she gives Shelly at the end of the ride.
Great movie ❤
Love the go cart scene 😂
You can tell Vada was upset I don’t blame her . If someone said that to me I’d be upset too

Here in North Carolina, they don't allow you to bump anyone on this attraction. The only thing you're allowed to do is drive around in circles.
That’s nothin where I come from we go to the paintball range and we ain’t allowed to shoot each other
