what a beast-- so effortless. This locomotive is right up there with the UP 844. This engineer really knows how to set up his valve timing. Crisp, clean, percussive and efficient.

wow great video. AND killer intro music. Right on. Steam, and heavy R & B horn band funk. Love it. You shoot some very good video. That EMD 567 is a beautiful sound

Great to see 2102 running. I rode behind it and videotaped the BM&R Railfan Weekends 1986 and 87. Unfortunately, not able to get up that way from S.E. Florida.

Tower is a repro of J tower @ the Strasburg RR in Reading paint colors. Reading Whistles they had 6 and 3 chime passenger whistles. they made many more 6 chimes then 3 chimes. All freight only locos and switchers had hooters those shrill whistles as you called them. The switchers were a slightly higher pitched.

Wow - Seriously long train, and that handsome machine seems to be making really light work of it! Thank you for this lovely video - Can hardly wait to ride behind 2102 later this year, as well as chasing the train!

Great video with nice narration!! The 2102 recording with the 60000 whistle is also on the album "Modern Stean, An Audio Essay Of The 4-8-4." 2102 wore that whistle for the Golden 50th Iron Horse Ramble in 1964, the second-to-last Iron Horse Ramble before Reading discontinued the famous charters.

Tim, you said that you were deafened as the 2102 passed you going through Nesquehoning. It's pretty loud if it almost drowns out a RDG 6-chime, which was one of the loudest whistles ever made!

Great video. Your commentary is always informative and you have a good speaking voice. Just curious whether they turn the engine on a wye at Jim Thorpe. Was there on decades ago as a child.

They turn it on a wye between Jim Thorpe and Nesquehoning, and cross the Lehigh River as well.

The difference in the whistles one sounds like the normal T1 and what you call the passenger whistle to me it is the 2100 whistle it had a different one the the rest of the class, when growing up I have behind all three 2100,2102,and 2124 back when they Reading Ramble

@10:00 There was a lot of train in tow for that T 4-8-4. @18:00 was that an E-7? The later models [ e-8 and F-9] had a snub nose.
