John Wick: Chapter 4 (stylized as JW4) is a 2023 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. The sequel to John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) and the fourth installment in the John Wick franchise, it stars Keanu Reeves as the title character, alongside a supporting ensemble cast including Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick (in one of his final roles), Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane. There's always a possibility John faked his death but regardless of whether he did the character should remain retired imo. Time to tell some different stories
I thought the action sequences had some brilliant moments, but often dragged on for too long. I’m definitely interested in seeing more of how this world works but had some big issues with the plot and pacing of this movie.
Wick starts off the film going after the High Table and then the movie seems to completely forget about that. And the Marquee is dangerous because he…kills someone and stabs a guy in the hand? The character was ok but didn’t come across as a formidable opponent for John.
Certainly wasn’t a satisfying ending for me.
That Dragon Breath Shotgun action sequence from the God's eye view is truly A set-piece for the ages. Possibly the best action sequence I have seen in years

Everything about John Wick Chapter 4 is perfect IMO. It’s a 10 out of 10 for me!

Don’t leave out soundtrack
Yeah, before watching John Wick 4, I had The Raid 2 as the best action movie ever. After watching John Wick 4, I’m not too sure anymore lol
If you are dumb enough you could even call it a masterpiece.
I was sooooo surprised by how good the cinematography is on JW4! I hope JW4 gets at least a nomination for best picture or cinematography at the next Oscar.
Much as I wish this series could go on forever, it's gone out on a high note. I stayed away from all spoilers and was thoroughly satisfied with the ending.

John Wick 5 is still on the table, as well as the spin offs to further the story. Looking at 3-4 upcoming projects
The fight up the stairs is kind of a metaphor too. John keeps fighting to rise above and out of this life only to repeatedly get thrown back down into it.
If it does not become a meme then I am disappointed in Internet
The story and acting are solid.

The stunts are pushed to the limit.

10/10 action, loved Donnie’s fighting style with his sword cane
Probably the most unique fighting style to date.
Generally blind Martial art fighters are just portrayed as total badass with super heightened senses and appear super human. But Caine's style felt genuine, like yeah this guy is blind, he's wildly swinging his cane around and even shooting blindly in a general direction, but hes a honed master assassin so for the most part there's purpose to his tactics.
It was totally badass....but it was surprisingly funny. Felt like a Jackie Chan flick as well.

I think that Stahelski pulled off one hell of a slight of hand at the end of the movie.
I believe that the last scene for chapter 4 was when John sat down on the cathedral stairs then passed out, and that what we see in the next scene is actually a significant jump forward in time, after John is finally "killed" at the end of chapter 5.
We will see the Baba Vengabus one more time.

One of my favourites too. I think Chapter 4 propels it up my list of favourite action series of all time now.

I want a spin-off of Caine. Donnie Yen's blind acting and fighting style was fascinating to witness. I especially loved the use of the doorbell sensors.

This is a mind boggling and excellent action movie. Three hours are not long enough. 5 out of 5 for me. Never a dull moment. Insanely good. Don’t walk but run to watch this movie. It is a must watch.
The best 169 minutes of my life. It was insane from the beginning to the end and we need more movies like this.

I would like to see an anthology series like True Detective where every season is a different decade leading up to the events or at least the time period of Wick.
Also, I think Wick faked his death knowing that people would keep coming just to make a name for themselves. I mostly think this because of Winston's remark of "I don't know where he is"

In the past decade I've only left the theater speechless after Fury Road, Infinity War, Maverick and JW4. Moments I will treasure forever.

Why the John wick movies are so good is because it really drives on ,’show don’t tell’ narrative , and with each sequel we get to know the lore a little more

He’s not dead. Non lethal shots . Like when the guy he shoot’s who stitches him in previous moves tells him to shoot him below the floating rib.
And his grave was grass . No mud which would signify a fresh grave.

It’s such a vast world now, I’d like to see many spin-offs provided they have the same level of talent as the John Wick.

Glad you mentioned Fury Road because that's about the only "action" movie that won best picture. That proves this movie may well be honored with Oscar nominations, especially for cinematography. We also need a new Oscars category: Best Action movie. This would easily win that, wouldn't it?

I haven’t really seen this take before - But when John “dies” at the end, i took it as the idea of john wick is dead yet John himself is still alive. Just no longer with an obligation to the high table or the job.
The fastest three hours ever...( enjoyed the nod to the film "The Warrriors") between the fury it had the space & pace to breathe , to linger , .a visual feast , & emotion we took with us from film one to four,,,...superb !

Only complaint is the dueling scene had some pretty obvious green screen/volume shots, which was disappointing considering the importance of that scene. Otherwise, an instantly iconic film of the action movie canon
They had to control the lighting I suppose. You can't really go booking out the Sacre Coeur for a month, hope for a good sunrise and nail it in one take.
@@Moonmonkian Plenty of movies have managed practical sunrise shots. It's a small complaint so I don't want to blow it out of proportion lol it's still a 10/10 action movie, it was just kind of jarring to go from 2.5 hours of beautifully composed shots to "omg that's definitely a sound stage"

Have to say my favorite new person in this masterful film Is Donnie Yen's caine.
his role was badass and added more emotional weight to the story. theres werre so many side characters that added too but he carried allot to the end credits.
Donnie is an all time great. His kids wanted him to be in this movie. He did them proud.

Yes, a Masterpiece, and through a promo at the local AMC theater, I left with a set of coins (four unique coins including a "Gold Assassin" coin on a sealed cardboard), and some other cool looking John Wick memorabilia.

@@CortexVideos Might be regional, but they weren't free. Costed me about $32 USD, not including the cost of my large popcorn & large drink which was another $20 USD.
But they're pretty badass, and I haven't taken the coins out of their packaging.

John Wick 4 is great. But I think the Raid has better fighting. The Raid is an amazing action movie. It’s a shame it’s a low budget movie by Hollywood standards. Once the fighting starts in the Raid it does not let up until the movie ends. The lead actor is a crazy talented martial artist. Iko Uwais is a beast. I think Peter Jackson’s King Kong is also an incredible action movie. I am curious to see how John Wick 4 holds up over time. People these days have short attention spans. People love what’s new. And forget about older classic movies. Maybe John Wick 4 will be one of the top ten best action movies.
Truly a masterpiece
I loved this movie for all of the same reasons described in the video, and i'm also interested in all of these potential spinoff shows and movies. One thing that i would like is perhaps a prequel series, eother about how John earned his reputation as the Baba Yaga and or he accomplished his impossible task. Make it animated. They could go absolutely wild with the actiom and get stylized with the art design. I wouldnt be upset if Keanu Reeves sat it out, but making it a voice acting role would make it easier for him to return, provided the story works out that way.
John Wick is like a combination of Blade Runner 2049 and Mad Max: Fury Road
I pretty much totally agree, except I would rate it 10/10. there's nothing I would say is necessarily wrong with the movie beyond my own subjective preferences. Didn't even mind the long dialogue sequences as I found them to be shot beautifully and oozing with style and charisma from the performers and backgrounds. My only gripe was that I thought the ending was a bit forced and unnecessary, but it was by no means bad or unearned. I just had a great time throughout the entire runtime and will definitely be going for a second viewing sooner rather than later.
A series about the creation of the high table should be interesting. It would give us an international feel, story about the traditions and language, history about the currency used in the franchise and also how the families work. Each families gets a season and at the end we see why is the table created.

A rating isn't necessary for a satisfying and cherished story. "You're going to die.. May be not." JW4 echoed life's philosophies through the voices of those are John from Caine, Shimazu, Bowery King, etc. I deem it a fitting end to a saga to conclude a narrative for the protagonist that was on the clock since his choice upon the path of vengeance. Those close to him, walked, talked, and echoed his path towards absolution, resolution, equalization, whatever it may be as the John reaches the end of his journey.

Saw it on Sunday, top 5 weekends of my life. Even got the popcorn bucket that amc was selling. Still kinda annoyed that the repeater that Mr. nobody was a modification of a repeater that isn’t made anymore

John Wick's basically the Doom Slayer in his world!
Everybody came here with their A+ game. All standouts. That chick Akira.......she's a "pop star"........she rules! Just magnificent, want more of her......and that's just act 1.
The John Wick saga has a modest cinema ancestor that functions as a "crime war movie" set in a modern world without police or even governments to maintain even modicum of Law & Order. The film is entitled MAD DOG TIME (1996), which starred Jeff Goldblum as a top-flight gunman and Richard Dreyfuss as his over-the-top mob boss, freshly released from prison to resume his shakey throne. There are moments in MDT that have a familiar vibe to the Wick'd ways to come later, and this earlier movie is worth a watch for it's own 'take' on the world run by international gangs in every sense. Not so much an 'action' movie but a gleam of inspiration for the John Wick series and anything that it also inspires.
I think A LOT of people are actually forgetting mission impossible fallout and just how good of an action movie that actually is but nobody seems to be giving it the love it deserves when comparing this chapter 4 to other recent action flicks😢 mission impossible movies are the most underrated movies going imo
MI: Fallout is good. I always give praise to Tom Cruise, one of the best to do it, for doing his own stunts/fights too. I think my favorite fight scene in Fallout would have to be that bathroom fight. But I still think JW 4 is better when it comes to fight choreography, overall. You add additional action/martial art stars like Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zaror, ect into your movie and let them do their thing, it’s gonna be hard to beat.
Mission Impossible is a played out movie series that should've end years ago.

I was waiting for them to pull a Dark Knight Rises and have him secretly be alive...tbh I'm glad they didnt. All the best stories know when to end and this was a fitting end to John's story. There's a ton of potential for spin-offs too so it's not like the franchise is over either.
This movie is incredible, and I thought 3 wasn't very good, but this is.
I saw it Saturday’s it’s good, damn good but I think calling it a “Masterpiece” is a bit towards overrating the film. It’s good don’t get me wrong, the best way I can describe it as it’s more of what we’ve seen in the past entries with a longer runtime. The 1st film is still the best in my opinion and this one is Blu-Ray worthy to add to anyone’s collection.

Hear me out; In John Wick 5, they'll ressurect John to become a half vampire assassin to fight the demons of the High Table. Thus connecting the story to become Constantine 2 because John, before he was John Wick, was John Constantine all along. 😂

Watched it on Friday. I thought it was exaggerated and far-fetched at times, like jumping out the window falling on the car walking away or the dead enemies on the steps mysteriously disappearing. Other than that, I thought it was good. John Wick 2 is still my favourite out of the franchise.
That’s what Chad was going for. They were having fun with it while making some very memorable scenes.

Speed, Safe, Heat, Demolition Man, Desperado, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bad Boys 2, The Rock, Aliens, Mad Max 4, Ong Bak, Blade, Hard Boiled, Edge of Tomorrow, The Northman, The Mask of Zorro, Taken, Minority Report, Fast Five, Top Gun 2, The Mummy, Warrior King, Die Hard, T2, Casino Royale, The Matrix, Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, Fallout, Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum, Face Off, Cliffhanger, Con Air, Ambulance, The Raid, Leon, Plane, Scarface, Soldier, True Lies and Collateral are all more enjoyable action movies than John Wick 4 for me.
Not just a masterpiece of action cinema, but a masterpiece of cinema and story telling!

I think "corruption" would have been a more accurate summary of the High Table (and the entire assassin world). Sure the Marquess is clearly rich, vain, greedy, etc, so you could argue he embodies the worst parts of capitalism, but saying that the entire High Table/assassin world is just an allegory for capitalism seriously sounds like a joke. Corruption, violence, and evil rules exist in every society regardless of what economic system they employ. This is an enjoyable video but there were a few points in the script that stuck out as awkward, definitely could've been better with a rewrite.
I know we live in a superficial world, and this movie series is further evidence. Pathetic.
Sometimes being straightforwardly superficial is better than pretending to be deep. In any case it's much less annoying : )

Thought it was 1 of the worst ever. I am not alone because when I saw it on Fri people got up and bood the ending. You have such an awesome movie and you end it that way. This is the only John Wick movie that I only saw twice
