My father loved them got me into them ,I love the good music so that's what I'm doing getting stoned and thinking about the good old very much missed days of passed, well peace to all.....
This is just classic!! I was lucky to have been turned onto to this band by a friend still have the vinyl and then the cd. GREAT album. Tragic they never got to keep going. Interfering label part of the story. Anyway guys thanks for this great music!! How can they think there right when there wrong I guess they've never been stoned!
How could I have forgotten this song?!!! But then, I have forgotton more than most people will ever know...great song...great memories. Something the 'oldies' stations just don't play. Guess it was a head shop I first heard it in too...AHHAA! LOVE
Man, the memories....I do not even know how many times I saw them in concert. I still have half a dozen of their old coat hanger wands they used to throw out into the audience.
One of my favorite songs from around 1973 (ish) I had a 69 Dodge Dart, 440 MAGNUM, and a sweet little filly that was sweeter than candy... but gave it all up to come back to my home on the mountain in the Appalachians... Brings back all the sweet memories............STONER
thank you ive been jonesing for this for five years thanks to the thief that stole my cd and the cd player it was in ..... time to breath deeply and sing it from the rooftops brother
I bought both albums, when they were first released. I really liked both of them! What surprised me though, besides not "making it", (perhaps due to not being promoted enough by Capricorn Records, was the fact that they were on the Capricorn Label to begin with, a label that usually signed Southern Rock Bands like Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, and the Allmans. Perhaps they would have been more successful had they been on a Label like Columbia, Atlantic, Capitol, or even RCA. I wish they were, because they were really good!
They made it as good as they wanted to...thy were stoned brother! I saw then in concert 8 times I think all over the south...their opening act was a killer.....
Brother man,i too was a appalachian boy in the 70s God those were the best times huh? i lived on the tip top of iron mountain the App trail crossed our property and i could walk way up the trail never see another human and hang out till my jug o white witch liquer and my fat bag o weed was gone ! boy has the world changed. you uns be good!! Super stoner!!!!!!!
I saw them twice back in the 70s in Dothan, AL and they were awesome. The first time they were an opener for Argent. White Witch captivated everyone and after a two hour stage changeover, Argent came out and opened with "Hold Your head Up." After that, about 80-90% of the audience got up and left. The next time White Witch was the sould group performing.
I first heard this song on WJLN Birmingham Alabama's first "album" station. And what a station it was. Begging away "dead air" time of midnight till 5:00 AM every day the original WJLN overnight DJ "Father Tree" played whole album sides. Sides from bands like Mott The Hoople who I'd seen on the sleeve of my CSN&Y 4-Way Street album but had absolutely not idea of who, or what, this band with the crazy name was about. Well, what my sister, eight-years my senior, had started (exposing me to some cool music, sometimes albums her boyfriends were into such as those by Savoy Brown) WJLN, and Father Tree, brought to fruition. Part of this was this song by White Witch which, in a vaudevillian or burlesque flavor, absolutely nailed the dichotomy of the society's "devil's deal" with the alluring aspect of "SMOKING GRASS". The band White Witch deserved so much better than what Capricorn Records was able to give. With a brilliant A&R man who could have matched them with an appropriate producer who knows how much these talented guys could achieve. For instance, SYYX comes to mind....here's a band with a "Broadway Ready Singer", an equaly crunchy rock ability, and maybe more songwriting talent (nothing maudlin in the 2 WW albums). Why did STYX sell millions and is still a "cash-cow" touring band as of 2015 and White Witch is totally forgotten? I blame it on Capricorn Records and Phil Walden's drug addled tunnel vision. Capricorn and Phil should count their blessings that a band such as The Allman Brothers transcended all of the "muck" that swirled around this label. Still, for a time Capricorn had such unbelievable potential. They had bands, besides the Allmans, like Wet Willie, The Marshall Tucker Band, White Witch, Captain Beyond, Grinder Switch, Hydra, and more. They should have had Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd, for instance, but because of their tunnel-vision drug fueled leader Walden failed to capitalize on all the greatness that swirled in their universe.. Well, they did have Martin Mull...hey, I'm not kidding his spoken word comedy and observations were pretty cool at the time.
I'm pretty sure Skynyrd turned 'em down- i think Alan booked 'em for some tours but they didnt want a deal with Capricorn, and from what you say I think I can see why...thanks for the info-
SAW THEM LIVE @ SHERWOOD FOREST (EAST OF FLINT MI.) SAW THEM BEFORE (OPENING ACT) FOR URIAH HEEP, I WAS B-O-M-B-E-D!!!! ALL I REMEMBER WAS THIS ENCORE SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ON MARIJUANA
White Witch was from Tampa, FL. for those asking - there's a Wikipedia page, so have at it. Personally, I like "A Spiritual Greeting" better than this eponymous debut, but that's me. They're both great and this band should have been huge.
Used to see some of theses guys in S. Georgia playing as Noah's Ark/The Tropics and then White Witch. Civic Auditoriums, etc. I guess I was 13 -15. Those were the days.
I'm puffing on legal Colorado cannabis distillate extract as I listen. Legalization has given us products better than any hash oil of yore and including city, county, and state taxes the cost is $25/g out the door.
That's way too high! You're too high if you think $10 a gram is cheap. A good dose is more than a gram. At that price Nature's medicine is no better than man's.
White Witch is the first band I ever saw live. Me and2 friends drove to Seminole Florida. At the driving inn movie theater. On the way there we stopped at a convenient store to get something to munch on . I was sitting in the middle of a 1970 Chevy pickup. I placed my PEPSI can I was drinking from on the dash before we went into the store . my sister's boyfriend came out from the store and put a hit of purple microwdot in my PEPSI. I came back to the truck and drank my PEPSI and the driver came out . we drove off and got to the drive in movies. We didn't have tickets so we climbed over the back wall fence. As we walked around waiting for white witch to come on stage. I slowly started to feel funny. Not funny haha but funny looking. I tripped my brains of watching my first live concert. Wow an to be honest I didn't know I was tripping. I didn't fined out until the next day that I was on LSD. WE EXSPERIENED THINGSLIKE CHEECH AND CHONG. DID AT THE DRIVE INNS.ROCK ON WHITE WITCH . I was 14 years old 1973
I SOME REALLY GOOD SWEET LEAF FOR THIS TUNE.& AS THE LAWS R BEING CHANGED & EVEN BEEN LEGALIZED IN SOME AMERICAN STATES,AT THE TIME OF THIS SONGS DEBUTE IT WAS SO STRICT TO HOLD IT,& ALL .
I was very lucky to know Ron Goedert later in his life and when we meet at his apartment we smoked out and he broke out this record...WOW it is SO nice to be stoned!...cosmic peace back @ U Ronny....Sven out
IF YOUR UNCLE WAS THE MANAGER HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM. HE WAS FUCKING STUPID ON BOOKING THEN... I SAW THEM MANY TIMES AND DO NOT REMEMBER THEM EVER HAVING A MANAGER EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST ALBUM... GUESS YOUR UNCLE FUCKING BROKE THEM... COS THEIR CLOTHS WERE WORN OUT LIKE BLACK OAK ARKANSAS LAST TIME I SAW THEM..
saw this band @ the old treasure land amuse. park across from Busch gardens in Tampa about 74, they blew us away! i took a girl named Gail Rosentit [who wore a rose pinned onto her breast!]they played in support of a politician named "Patrick Henry?] whom was running for office.....
George Burns and stoned people love this song. They used this song for "shock value" in the 70's as background music for a crappy late night horror show in Houston, Texas.
well now hotwheelkid ya did good finding this, been hunting this for a long time......flashbacks from '75 . OH GOD that was 35 years ago and still so nice!!!
Was never to big on some of their lyrics, set aside the issue of lyrics a bit. It's easy to poke at old bands. Nowadays, we've instant access, GNU digital audio / video mixing devices easy sampling & copy from the web. In the 60s & 70s, so-called sophisticated synthesizers mixers, dubbing devices were reserved for wealthy producers top & 40 bands. I'm leery about where & for whom I do positive posts. Skeptically I watched White Witch grow, they had good sound, talent, and a lot of imagination.
@Macombdag Heheheh, I just heard it for the first time, yesterday. Believe it or not, my grandma introduced me to the song, and my mom's who introduced me to weed last April (2010).
Altho I am now allergic too weed , i used to smoke it regularly. It is infinitely better for you than Alcohol ! There is no logical reason for it to be illegal . Make it legal and put a 100% tax on it , and the government would have a balanced budget,
@dru72499 They weren't ahead of their time as there were several other similar bands that came before (Queen and Alice Cooper come to mind) but they were very good and deserved more success.
@timj5674 I was at that concert, too, in Minot---at the Empire Theatre, right? Remember when they shined a bright light on a mirror ball and spun it around so the light refracted all around the theatre? I also own this album.
I got stoned once, from '69 'til around '83.
I got stoned in 1971 and still not come down.
me too, from 69 to 2019!!!
Lmfao
I got 1972 and still flying in 2024
Been stoned everyday for forty six years
Hell yeah
This kind of music paved the way for our wonderful legalization thing we've got going here!
A proclamation was issued today by the government of the USA!!! Great song!! Great band!! Excuse me while I take a smoke!!
My father loved them got me into them ,I love the good music so that's what I'm doing getting stoned and thinking about the good old very much missed days of passed, well peace to all.....
Must have listened to this tune a few thousand times I reckon.
Lived a half a century, never heard this song before.
This is just classic!! I was lucky to have been turned onto to this band by a friend still have the vinyl and then the cd. GREAT album. Tragic they never got to keep going. Interfering label part of the story. Anyway guys thanks for this great
music!! How can they think there right when there wrong I guess they've never been stoned!

Coat hanger wands? Tell us more!!
Where you living in Florida back then.
I've loved them as long as I can remember! My favorite song!

Hell, if they legalized weed and prostitution the tax alone would pay off the deficit in ten years!
the government doesn't want a balanced budget.
