@Dat Boii Textures, HDR, soft shadows, bloom, higher LODs.
Between UT2004, Far Cry, Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, I always though HL2 looked the best.
EDIT: Several years later, after I properly played Doom 3 for the first time in my life (4K60, properly loaded textures, high resolution UI/fonts), I'd say Doom 3 is the best looking one. Amazing lighting and shadow engine.

ive been having a really emotional few weeks lately. and everytime i feel like sh*t or just feel really upset i always continue watching this video and it really helps me calm down. i love the no commentary, it just kinda lets the viewer focus more on the game. thank you for this. even though it sounds weird, this video has helped me a lot. and it’s really made me wanna replay half-life!!

You know recently I thought to myself “I wish someone would actually make a game where the world has been taken over by aliens but humans are kind of allowed to still exist and the aliens have put a human puppet ruler in charge and the plot is kind of to get through to him” I had no idea what half life was at the time but when I discovered it, it was almost everything I had hoped for, a phenomenal game!

I spent 5 minutes dying and restarting in the very last part because I was trying to shoot down the two gunships with those energy spheres. Then I realized that I could just ignore them and shoot the core. When the core got destroyed, the gunships fell off the sky.

the path that Alyx wanted Dog to go through was probably filled with combine soldiers charging in killing everyone in sight. Dog could handle it, but I don't even think Gordon could, which is why Alyx had him go through Ravenholm, because at least there he would have a chance.
and perhaps there simply wasn't enough time for dog to clear the rubble blocking the path for Gordon to get by before the combine came storming in behind them. besides, the ceiling collapsed on them when they were a dozen or three meters underground. it's gonna take dog a while to clear up all that dirt between them and the surface.

You're no commentary playthroughs are legendary by the way. There are a few things you can improve on though.
1. Can you move the bolloxed watermark somewhere else? Much like the HEV suit, I care about you health and ammo, for some reason.
2. Start using the quickswitch to previous weapon feature. If you watch anybody playing half life that has been playing ever since it was released, you will see that they quickly swap between their previous weapons, for example, you would soften somebody up with the AR2 and would finish them off with the shotgun. I think it's bound to Q by default. Really useful for tight combat situations.
3. Start exploring a little more, maybe find some lambda locations. But it's your video so you could do whatever the hell you want.

The guy is playing on easy mode, man. He basically has zero risk of dying while everything dies really fast.

it's called a game mechanic, and it comes into play during the chapter Anti Citizen One. another game mechanic is the introduction of Weapons, most of which are able to destroy those cameras.

The rag doll physics of the soldiers are brilliant... way better than most games today. An icon , a legend... half life 2 set the bar....if this was remade with 2021 graphics...game of the year.

Still one of the greatest games of all time
Oh come on. It's a good game, and it had revolutionary features for its time (gravity and amazing graphics). However, in absolute terms judged against modern games, it's just a slightly good game these days. Probably a 7.5/10, maybe an 8/10 for the interesting beginning sequence that unfortunately hardly gets developed as you kill wave after wave of troops in a way that begins feeling repetitive similar to HL1/BM. The game is just a frag fest with "puzzles" (aka find a switch, more like hide and seek than a puzzle).
