Your simplistic approach to this element of GarageBand is refreshing. In so many GB training RUclips videos, the teacher assumes the student has been doing it for years. Your method is so relatable to newcomers like me, where your answer to everything is, watch what I do, with the knobs and play with it until you hear what you like! Your video needs no apologies! Thank you for helping me understand EQ Vocals in GB.
I feel this is one of the easiest ways to learn and understand, just speak in terms everyone can understand. I know that’s how I learned. So I’m glad my methods are helping others!!
bro i love you. every other tutorial makes me feel dumb because I just don't understand all the big words and fancy terminology. this is perfect. thank you so much.
I know this video was taken 2 years ago, but I would like to say thank you so much! All the other videos have big and fancy words, and I don't even get them!Your video is simple and easy to understand. Finally found a video which really helps me! Thanks!
You are incredible. The entire time I was like "Yes! I get that. That totally makes sense." Honestly, your videos are BETTER because they are simple and don't have all of that fancy terminology. Thank you so much. I'm learning so much from you.
Man this video helped me so much. I love that he wasn't tryin to be a technical person. Him speaking it the way he did got me to understand easy as hell now
DUDE. Stop apologizing for "not being technical/detailed"! I've been watching a lot of videos on compressions and EQs, but yours is the only one that I REALLY understood! Also, cheers from Indonesia!!
literally have been trying to find actual garageband band tutorials that are not only relevent, but useful. These actually work for me. Keep it up man!
Bro I swear this is me! 😂 I couldn’t tell you a single note, but I know what sounds good. I’ve been messing around with GarageBand for about a year now and this is literally the first video somebody explained it the way I can understand it! No need for apologizing this was just what I needed thanks and keep doing your thing man!
It’s all about what you’re able to achieve! I tell people all the time, linguistics don’t matter. Results do! That’s where it’s at man. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Just came to your heavenly video today. I feel I have wasted hours of watching Garage Band tutorials in learning nothing and rather being intimidated by all that technical stuff thrown at me. Now, watching your video is giving me a confidence that I can learn how to edit vocals. Thank you Legend.
You’re absolutely correct. No need to be technical when you have a grasp of what works for you. You’re not advocating for going against learning new concepts, so I wouldn’t stress it. Your piano comment rang true.
stop apologizing! you did fine for what you could do in terms of explaining. at least i could tell that you know what your doing. your true supporters that asked for the video will understand ! 😂 also i peep you sharing your original music more in them outros 😍🙌👏
Thank you so much for explaining this in basic terms! I get SO overwhelmed with the technical terminology that often I give up on YT videos if I can’t understand the wording. Thank you for explaining it so well! 👍
Dude, don’t worry about it! I’m glad you made this video, I don’t even understand the technical terms either. Your video gave me ideas of how I can improve my vocals. Thanks a lot for sharing this video!!!! 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠
Amazing video you explained this so well. I've been struggling with my vocal production so I'll definitely give these tips a try. Love the sound you got with the lead and backing vocals together, sounds soooo smooth!
A really neat coverage of EQ-ing and Compression based solely on experience. I'm an engineer, and when i first opened up Garageband (just today, actually) i was kind of shocked that instead of giving an actual compressor with settings, or an EQ with an actual graphic display of the spectrum, all we get is knobs. It was almost outlandish. But the more i thought about this, the more i realized how unique and original this idea really is--and it's sort of a testament of how Mac has always thought intuitively. Even Steve Jobs himself invented actual tablet concept that would eventually be our smart phones. I'll have to play with this more, but i'm thinking this simple dynamic-processing window might actually teach someone what compression is, and does (as well as equalization), even if you don't know technical aspects of HOW is is actually done. And my final statement. Wanted to say that this is really kind of amazing, i think, what Apple has done here because anytime you apply EQ or compression you will get drastic change in loudness of the track, which can peak-out and cause distortion. Meaning you also have to understand how to bring levels up and down for every change you make. So, amazingly, what Apple did was sort of program the application to automatically level-out the volume to any change you make. Professionally, you wouldn't want to do this because you can't ever tweak your work with precision. Yet, on the other hand, if you can learn to really REALLY trust your ear, this thing could be Golden . . . This demonstration is a real gem because IAMLXGEND is teaching us dynamic processing by-ear while using an actual application that itself works, essentially, by-ear. No numbers needed!
I like the way you teach as I don't know what the technical terms are but as you show us in practice I can fully understand so don't change the way you teach thank you for sharing
THIS WAS INCREDIBLY HELPFUL! I watched a "technical" tutorial before this one, and I was so confused and overwhelmed. this is exactly how I needed it to be explained for my brain to grasp as a beginner. thank you thank you thank you!
You are most welcome. That is my goal, I just want to simplify all of this for those who don’t know the super technical stuff. I feel it’s the best way to learn/teach. It doesn’t have to be/sound complicated. The simpler the terms the easier it is to understand :)
I find your tutorial very helpful.. way easier to follow for a beginner like myself.. all the "technical terms" are hard to follow.. thanks for the help I hit the like button for all your hard work, keep it brotha!
Love the "self taught" style bro!! Im the same exact way!! Like you know what your looking for or trying to do, but putting it into words is complicated.. much love ❤️💛💚 my brother!!
bro your youtube tutorial videos has helped me out in more ways then you can imagine. I literally come here to learn. Your a genius. As a fan and a student of your teaching I want you to be confident that what you explain and how you explain it is perfectly understandable. People who want to get it will get it and people who don't won't. Pay attention to the people who do because we are learning and we are getting better bro. I believe in you man. Keep going. - Anthony Ray (Columbia, SC)
After reading a lot of these comments, this very one included, one thing that I know I’m doing well is teaching and explaining things in terms that anyone can understand. That is really what’s missing. A lot of folks can’t simply do or learn as they wish because of confusing lingo. We have to break it down so everyone can understand so that’s what I try to do and reading things like this show me that it’s working. Thank you so much
You're such an awesome teacher! Thank you so much for being so relatable and easy to follow! You're definitely helping the likes of us who are completely new to this and need your teaching style to learn GB. Keep doing what you're doing because it's helping me and I know many others too. Great job and your music sounds dope!!!! Blessings!
I actually prefer the way you describe sounds. Very graphic and easy to follow what is normally overloaded terminology. Please keep doing it! Thank you.
I like your style - very simple and yes it encourages the beginner to "play around" and that's the way to really learn. Thank you for this great video. excellent tips!!
1. I dont usually comment on youtube, i dont at all actually. just paused they video to write this. i love how you explainin yourself, i judge a video based on the person talkin and you dont annoy me at all. so u good, keep it up
Appreciated the video I had no clue what I was doing when it came to EQing vocals, but thanks to this video I'm a lil closer to at least understanding what all these dang knobs do.
I used to be the same way years ago, just came with playing around and seeing what they do. That’s the best way to learn. So I just try to show others!
No apology necessary LXGEND! I speak your language! FACT: Any tutorial that gets SUPER 'techy' I start nodding off and then I close the video. So, I prefer the sound effects > technical jargon. LoL. Same thing applies when learning a dance...If someone's making sounds, like "Boom kack" I'll get the dance. But, if they start with 1 and 2 and 3 and 4...I'm gone. LoL -- Glad I stumbled upon your page. THANK YOU!
you helped me and the explanations were good enough for me, just to hear what you had put together at the end was really great, the harmony work sounds really tight so you got a sub from me. I'll be checking out some of your other run downs. Keep up the good work!
What your saying makes a lot of sense. without all the technical terms sometimes is a good thing.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge It's greatly appreciated..
thanks for making it so simple and easy to understand, wanted to do music for so long but been too scared to venture into it bc most ‘beginner’ youtube tutorials are really not for beginners at all!
This was awesome.....I used GarageBand for so many years and just never used anything but clicking record lol. Now I know a few tricks. But I'm already starting Logic. Still you don't need to apologize for teaching your way......I understood you and you appeal to many who rather a simple understanding. Nice video!
Hey man i added good mic effects such as the eq, pitch corrector and a couple more and i was happy with the way i was sounding, then today i went to record some more and my mic sounds completely different, its more echoing and seems to pick up more around me and changes the way i sound, reducing the gain on my mic and on garage band didnt change this and i have run out of options! any ideas to help me!! btw i also love your videos!!
So I have this issue as i haven’t got the best equipment I’m gonna assume it’s that or your recording environment so acoustic foam or blankets work to reduce reverb it’s easier to add than remove and take note of your recording environment as well take all these into account it should help you out let me know how it goes :)
Great how to man! There’s really no need for you to apologize 😂 I understand everything that you were trying to tell as I am self taught as well. I never know the technical terms, but you just explained things in a way I can understand. Thank you man! Great video.
Always super awesome when people like you let me know my rants and ramblings aren’t going by the wayside lol. Because I say a lot of stuff that pros think sounds so beginner but my thing is you have to really talk to people in the simplest way to help them understand better. No need to use unnecessary words
Very VERY helpful and relatable. You should def keep teaching in this style (Non Technical) because 9/10 those of us watching for learning purposes relate most to that way of teaching. YOU GOOD! Thank you .
Yea man, regular folk speak is my forte because that’s how I learn, myself. And it makes no sense to use big technical terms when you can explain in basic terms that everyone and beginners can understand. Def not gonna change up my style. I’m just always hard on myself.
hey. i’m trying to edit the sound of my voice, the producer says it’s not possible, but i see wave presets online changing the voice, to deeper, with so styles, buy my voice just sounds the same. is there any facts to that?
i just saw a video, the guy used edits to make his voice sound great, after purposefully singing bad. so i think they just don’t want to edit my vocals to the best it can be.
Well I am an engineer / producer and yea, I’m telling you it’s possible to change vocals to an extent. The only thing someone can’t do is make bad quality sound like a good mic. If your equipment is bad then for sure your vocals won’t be able to be edited. But if it’s just stylistic things you’re after then yea it’s totally possible.
Thank you for this important information. I have an unrelated question. Can you make a video on insert effects vs send effects and how are they related. Thanks buddy.
really appreciate your video man you explained it very well and it really helped to improve my mixing with garage band plus your songs sound dope asf thx
Once again you executed awesome tutorial don’t sweat it if you’re not familiar with the terminology I and I’m sure others definitely understand where you’re coming from.
Your videos are super helpful man thank you! Also, you're better than all these haters commenting. Don't engage in their crap - I see you replying to a lot of hateful trolls and it's not worth your time man - you don't even have to defend yourself when you can mix this good. The most successful people in any field only encourage and give positive, constructive criticism so it's super apparent that the people commenting negatively aren't anybody. Keep it up man and keep the vids coming.
Oh trust me, while I do get annoyed by the comments they don’t get to me in the sense like I think I’m doing bad. It’s just ignorance and elitism. People thinking they’re better than you because they have “X” degree or something. It is what it is. I merely respond because I reply to every comment on the channel
Good stuff--I've been picking up a lot watching your videos. Compression in recording just the highs and the lows (which is why the so-called audiophiles don't like mp3s). But, many guitar players also use compression pedals to increase sustain--which I don't fully understand (and I'm a guitar player LOL!). Mind you, I'm also 67 years old which means my hearing cannot hear all the frequencies as well as somebody your age. As others have said: no need to apologize fro anything--you are still teaching by demonstrating--and I'm a self-taught musician too so I can relate. Just hope to get my keyboard skills up to your level! 😀👍👍
EQ is basically mixing the vocals. I'm almost certain. Mixing editing after you recorded the song where you choose what instruments need to be louder or whatever. I'm not an expert but I've recorded in a studio around 7 times now and I'm pretty sure that's what's up.
It’s only part of it. mixing requires both equalization of the frequencies and the levels as well. It’s not just about what’s louder or quieter. It’s about getting things to sit well with other things. Being able to fit together but not stand out like a sore thumb. That isn’t necessarily always just loud and soft.
U don’t even need to apologize man. I understood literally everything you said. Thanks for the tips👍👍
Glad it resonated well with you man
IAMLXGEND same with me man. I really learned a lot. 🙏🙏🙏
"I'm self-taught" - that's a badge of honor, you learned through doing. You're absolutely brilliant.

People thinking they’re better than you because they have “X” degree or something. It is what it is. I merely respond because I reply to every comment on the channel
Good vid bro, took notes. Thank you!
I love you - thank you for explaining and demonstrating this in a way I actually get it.

Welcome to the LXGENDARY CREW bruh!
I love this, your energy is so relatable. gained a sub :)
Welcome man and thank you for that
Good stuff--I've been picking up a lot watching your videos. 😀👍👍
How do u add presets to garage band?
Definitely going to be applying some of this to my music, I never really understood mixing so thanks for the help
No problem man. Glad to shed some light on it for you 🙏🏾
Thanks for keeping it plain and simple bro!!!
Thanks for being patient and watching!
You cater to my k ik nd of learner. Thanks so much!
This made so much sense. Thank you 👌🙌
You’re welcome!
Would this be considered Mixing?
An aspect of it yes
EQ is basically mixing the vocals. I'm almost certain. Mixing editing after you recorded the song where you choose what instruments need to be louder or whatever. I'm not an expert but I've recorded in a studio around 7 times now and I'm pretty sure that's what's up.
It’s only part of it. mixing requires both equalization of the frequencies and the levels as well. It’s not just about what’s louder or quieter. It’s about getting things to sit well with other things. Being able to fit together but not stand out like a sore thumb. That isn’t necessarily always just loud and soft.
@@IAMLXGEND oh I gotcha. Thanks man
Awesome bro , thanks this is a big help for me . Now i know why my recording sounds like am inside of container :)
Simple and easy to understand thank you sir❤️
