      You gotta turn the zip tide on the flat side slapping on the weed you're trying to whack at. The physical property of the material was never designed to bend that way in the first place. That's why it keeps breaking.

  • @DelawareDevil
    @DelawareDevil 7 лет назад +51

    You have 10 inch zip ties on the weed wacker and you're cutting right next to the concrete. Back off it's the edge of the string that does the work.

  • @nyckoluz
    @nyckoluz 3 года назад +15

    I'm sure the reason why you're having a hard time with the string is because of the type of head you're using. I would use a head that requires winding the string around a spool. Like the Echo SpeedFeed Head, you feed a string through until both sides have equal lengths and twist the head! It would last a couple of days.

    Too funny! The problem is, those zip ties don’t flex the way they need to flex, so instead they just break off. Try getting a “Speedfeed 400” for your trimmer. That seems to be the way to go. If it will adapt to your line trimmer, it’s easy peazy to put line in.

    What about an appropriate diameter steel cable instead of zip tie or plastic trimmer line?. Do what you did with the hole and zip tie but just flair one end of each steel cable so it cannot slip out the hole then it's easy to replace once it does wear down. I really think this is a winner. I'm going to try this as I'm tired of messing with my trimmer head also..poison ivy, oak etc have to wash my hands after I mess with the head every time..this would stop that plus all the buying of expensive string.

A short piece of chainsaw chain was attached to the pressed pin. I had a benchtop deal to add links of chainsaw chain to it as they would where away. Great video.i actually tried this before watching your video and the same thing happened. Then I twisted some rebar wire after being so fed up with all the twist ties. All I will say is watch your ankles. Thank God I put rain boots on for the experiment. P.s plastic knives don't work either.

      I have done the cable, It is Wicked - Good for clearing heavy brush or trimming shrubs - Keep in mind it throws stuff like 20' - So watch trimming out front and dinging the neighbors car!

      You know the porpose for that guard? Is there for 2 things. 1. Is to protect your damn legs.. and second is to cut the string when it gets loose from the head. But the other half of your brain.. is not working.

  • @mentallyderanged9169
    @mentallyderanged9169 5 лет назад +1

    Your problem is you are using the whole string. Use just the edge or tip whatever you want to call it to cut. You don’t run the metal head against the concrete you use just the tip of the string I bet it will last FOREVER if you do it the right way.

    • @bsanchez3563
      @bsanchez3563 Год назад

      Also only helps to soak in water the string that is not currently on the head by storing in a bag of water ieca ziploc sandwich bag any brand works for the nylon soaks up .. up to 10 or even 20 percent of its weight by the water being soaked up after about 24 to 72 hours so one or two days depending how old and thick the line is

    I feel your pain! I had the same idea except I attached one ziptie using another one on an empty spool and SAME. My husband says I trimmed to close to the cement but I feel like ...hello if I can't get close to the edge then whats the point of an edger??? This thing is making me crazy meanwhile weeds are growing as I speak.

    Why-ontcha’ zip tie the weed whacker line to the head ? That-a-way you’re cutting with line but da’ zip tie stops the line from flyin’ da’ coop.
    Hilarious attempts - Thomas Edison didn’t get the light bulb right the first time either! In fact I think he accidentally got the phone while he was working on the light bulb… but that Alexander Bell guy took the credit.

    Who in the heck would have a weed eater with a head and spool on it that only holds 6 inches of line, that's what I wanna know
