    My wife and daughter gave me this lens as a gift for my 60th birthday last month. Let’s just say that I almost fell off my chair when I opened it. I’ve gotten a chance to put it through its paces recently and I can confirm that this lens is a beast! Razor sharp and fast! If you are a Sony shooter and are into wildlife or sports, I agree with Stefan that this one is a definite buy. You will not be disappointed. Keep up the great content Stefan!

    Got this for A6400. One thing I am doing is replacing the foot with one by Wimberley (Ap-620). Looked at several different ones and this one came out of top. It fixes to the lens using allen screws instead of a hand knob; leaving it on all the time. This allows for a more solid attachment to a tripod using the ARCA-swiss dovetail and effectively keys in and aligns the lens inherently. In addition, a clear 95mm protection filter is a must to protect the front element and to keep dirt and fingerprints off the front element. I got one from B&W. Thanks for the no-nonsense review.

    I've been a Canon user, but now with plans to switch to Mirrorless, I'm leaning towards Sony, especially because of this particular lens and the new 14mm wide-angle. And also the Sony AlV. body. Cheers. 👍

    I just bought it a couple of days ago and i totally agree with you. I hade some difficultys with geting the 100% sharpnes when laing on the ground with snow and smale birds, but this is popably cause of the quite old A7 (Most of the time like 2 or 3 cm of fokus). But even through i already got a number of awsome and increadeble sharp shots. So defininietly recomende it.
    Addendum: flying storks are definitely not a problem

      Quick question if you don't mind. I'm fairly new to photography, 6 months, and I want to upgrade from my MFT to full frame. I photograph a lot of birds and also fighter jets that fly over my house all day. I've gotten some good shots with my panasonic G9 but the autofocus isn't really the greatest plus it's only 20mp so cropping in too much really sucks. How is the autofocus on the Sony a7iii? Actually looking at the a7riiiA.

I now have a monopole which eases the load.

    I wish Canon would make more internal zoom Zoom Teles for the RF lenses

  • @photoboyjet
    @photoboyjet 3 года назад +1

    I purchased this lens last year, moving up from a Sigma 150-600 Canon EF Mount with Sigma MC-11 adapter. Image quality is amazing, far better than the Sigma, plus the Sony has internal focusing, making it easier to balance on a gimbal. Despite the weight, this is my "walking around" lens.

  • @Rascallucci
    @Rascallucci 3 года назад +6

    It is the internal zoom design with the smooth and short throw which is pushing me to go with Sony as opposed to staying with Canon. Personally, I would rather shoot with the FE 200-600mm over the Canon RF 100-500mm which is an external zoom with a much stiffer and longer throw. And did I mention the Canon is over US$1.4K more expensive than the Sony? That is just massively overpriced.

  • @alchemist_x79
    @alchemist_x79 3 года назад +2

    Nice breakdown. I dunno. I'm still glad I went with the 100-400 GM with the teleconverter over this one. It just seems to suit me better for portability and versatility since I'll use it for landscape as well. That said, for pure wildlife photography, I'm debating whether the better option would be to eventually get this lens and the a1, or to just say f-it and stick with the RIII, but save up some coin and get the 600 f/4. Can probably do one or the other, but not both haha.

    the only lens that evens comes close for value is the nikon 200-500, this Sony lens is unrivaled for overall value, I have seen comparisons to the 600-f4 and the 2-600 really holds it own even against that 600 gmaster, especially in the center of the frame. If you shoot with one of the high megapixel cameras or even a crop body with a tight pixel pitch there is a trade off with ISO but most of issues can be overcome with some post work

      @@tomvana4270 I bought the 200-600 and am very pleased with it. Native Sony lenses work so much better too

      @@drummingspain207 I personally have a sigma contemporary myself for a few months now. Haven’t had enough time with it yet to seriously judge it yet. However the Sony has internal focusing ,better weather sealing and the focusing seems to be better. My son just bought an A7iv and after many hours of research he’s going with the Sony lens for those reasons. Yes it’s quite a bit more expensive but in the end the cost increase will probably be worth it. Have a happy new year.

      @@tomvana4270 I used Canon for years. Then got an A9 and tried to adapt my 300 f2.8 which didn't work out too well. I ended up selling all my Canon gear and now only have native lenses. You're right, you pay more for them but only once! Then after a few months you forget about that and just enjoy the benefits of pairing up what was designed to be together. I've bought 3rd party lenses in the past and sure, some have worked very well (Sigma 105 macro on the Canon etc), but with Sony, I've decided to stick with their own lenses. Happy shooting!

    Please stop saying that putting 600mm on a crop-sensor makes it a 900mm "equivalent" -- there is no such thing as a free lunch. Putting it on a crop sensor camera makes it a 600mm lens with a 900mm field of view. The benefit is that you put more pixels on your subject. This is a Good Thing. However: You are NOT getting 900mm worth of detail. It is *NOT* a 900mm equivalent... and people need to really stop making that kind of misleading comparison.

      well , if the lens has resolution higher than what the lines of pixels on the FF sensor can capture, than using a crop camera w tighter pixels will actually pull further detail out of the image which would not be seen on the FF. ofc its not a 900mm lens, it merely provides a field of view of one.

    4.68 lbs, it’s $1898, big huge lens hood, no... a “statement for sure”....? No.... massive weighs a lot, dude you exaggerate everything. Please stick to facts and real life facts. I have never seen one of your videos before… And no offense I will never watch another one because you seem to be giving an all but realistic review. Nothing more than I hate than another stupid RUclips review. Please just be real
