Yes, great video. Just a quick point that if you want to record looper output during play mode during a performance, you need to create a separate audio track and have the looper track as an input. This way the full looper output is recorded. A quick tip for those Bink looper enthusiasts!
Nicely presented and very clear. Thanks a lot man. Just want to put it here, those who are looking for a way how to execute the Bink Looper, the way I do it is by adding folder in my 'Place' section in the browser, and then just simply add the folder and there you will find the Bink Looper that you have extracted.
This method is when you already know the arrangement of the composition but gives little room to improvise actually. But it is a good approach for when the song is ready and you want to transform it into a live looping arrangement! ❤
Hi! Very interesting variation on the bink looper use! I'm actually researching the same topic right now and trying to find my way to create hand-free looping, this video is totally gonna contribute to that, thank you! I would like to ask a couple of questions? 1 how do you manage skipping trough songs? let's immagine you have to do that while performing, have you found a way to scroll through the project in a fast way? 2 have you found a way to repeat a structure in case you want to improvise on it for more time? Thank you very much, great content!
You can also do this without Binkbeats (which requires Max for Live) by arming the loop recording with Midi commands e.g. assign the Ableton track record buttons to a midi note, record the notes on a separate arrangement track where you want the loop recording to start .... you can route the Midi out to an external or internal (e.g.virtual IAC midi device on on a Mac) midi device, and back to the looper audio tracks in the sequencer.
Hi Robert, do you know if this technique works with Ableton Lite? I fancy giving it a try but I don't fancy spending much while I find out if it's the right process for me overall.
@@stuartjameswright hey, should work fine, the looper plug-in comes with Lite as well, and otherwise uses basic sequencer automation functions, you don't need Max or Max for Live.
Both loopers are necessary? Is it possible to use only the looper plugin to record a loop on each line and then play them in arrangements that we need ?
But the thing about this method is that you are recording at specific times... How do you like play as much as you want and then when it ends it loops for you and you can move on to playing another instrument and repeat like that
HELLO. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. CAN I GET ANOTHER DEVICE CLYPX, IAC DRIVER, M4L... TO TURN ARM ON , ARM OFF. THE M4L THAT I HAVE TESTED WITH TIME THEY LOSE AUTOMATION. THE SAME HAPPENS WITH BINK LOOPER. WITH TIME I LOSE THE SCHEDULES
This method of looping is probably the only one I would feel comfortable doing live. I suppose the downside is that, unlike a real drummer, if you miss a phrase, there ain't no repeating a bar to catch back up!
great video, thank you for sharing that :) does anyone have an approach to loop actual midi notes instead of the audio they produce? i'm facing the problem that long samples, e.g. a cymbal, towards the end of a loop cycle will get cut off. that wouldn't be the case if an actual sequence of midi notes would get triggered all over again in every loop cycle.
Oh, wow. Amazing share, August. I’m impressed this was all done with no dummy clips. So you are locked to the linear aspect on this style? How do you program an open section, i.e. an open improv?
thanks so much man, and yeah I do prefer the linear approach. In terms of programming an open section, the way I do it is leave lots of open space with the looper to improvise and try things, but knowing that at a certain point the looper will start listening again and being ready to play the loop when it does.
Nice tutorial. Yours is one of the only four or five available maybe? Thanks. I'm going to finally upgrade my set and I'd like to buy a Mac with M1. I read a lot of opinions and my decision was already taken. But I'm "afraid" about looping devices compatibility (Binklooper, Clyphx...). Are you working with an Intel-based or silicon mac? Thank you so much!
Great method, thanks man ! Just one issue though : sometimes, can't explain why, the playback doesn't play, which ruins the whole performance. Anyone here having the same issue ? It happens randomly, I solve it by deactivating all tracks and reactivating them, but it would be great if I could identify the "why" so I can avoid it happening during a live set on stage ^^. Also, if I dont press the keys of my midi keyboard (for, say, the synth track) pin point right just after the recording armed, if I press slightly too early, Ableton does'nt seem to recognize the input immediately, and my four bars synth becomes a three bar synth preceded by a one bar silence. Again, that's a bit annoying if it happens onstage... If anyone can help I'd be very grateful !
If you accidentally click on anything on the looper plugin, it will disable automation AND gray out the automation line which is usually red. To fix this just right click on the plugin and click Re-enable automation :))

This looks similar to how ALK from Zen Audio used to work before it disappeared. Great video.

I have seen other users explain a similar technique using follow actions but this looks a lot simpler actually. Thanks!

This is the only video that has gotten me to get looper working! Thank you!
No room for error from what I’m seeing but also very intuitive and simple. Cheers!
Hey thanks for the info. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Great video, thanks! Just wondering, can you also automate the loop to stop and come back a few bars later? Subscrbd! keep it put :)
Thanks a lot!
Greate tip! thank you, I was looking for a hands-free looping and you're solution is the most intuitive.
Very elegant technique! thank you!
Wow it is a really interesting approach !
And please continue to release new content and music, because everything you do is fascinating !
thanks man! that means a lot!
Thanks for this upload! I just started figuring out Ableton, and this is such a great help!

It's like what "The Kiffness" live looping performance too. Thank you! You, amazing!
Am I correct in understanding that this only works for midi? Not Audio?
Man, so much easier in arrangement. No button pushing as well.. thanks for sharing 👍
One thing I can't seem to do is get this method to record midi notes in arrangement same as it does in session. Is it possible?
Fantastic - Thank you for sharing!
Thank you dude! 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks for sharing! Huge help!

So helpful! Thank-you!
Great tutorial! I have a question. I can only select the first eight scenes with the scene selector (in the automation control). Is that normal? Thnx!
If you have an instrument with the track in OFF mode to rec, áudio through an áudio interface not inside Ableton...?

@@robertscott8336 marvellous. Cheers.
Hi! Please i cant ad bink on an audiotrack it only allow me to put it on the midi tracks
it is very cool way of looping but shame there is no way to quantize the notes in the looper.
How to quantized looper in arrangement view? It doesnt work on the go, except until we record arm looper track and stop and play it again
Both loopers are necessary? Is it possible to use only the looper plugin to record a loop on each line and then play them in arrangements that we need ?
Can I do this but keep recording over and over until i get the part right?
Is there a way to record and loop midi in Arrangement as I can't seem to do it no matter what.
But the thing about this method is that you are recording at specific times... How do you like play as much as you want and then when it ends it loops for you and you can move on to playing another instrument and repeat like that
You'd need to use Session view. This works but only for rigid song structure. Think Bink Looper is intended for Session tbh.

Hey!
That was super helpful thanks! Do you know why the Binklooper shows at the scene selector in Live 11 and how this issue could be solved myb?
Can you use undo if you mess up?

I cant use the blink on any of my guitar tracks it says only audio effects can be dropped in?
I believe there is both an audio and a midi version of the bink looper on the website, try downloading the audio version and see if that works
thank you but how don t you explain how to install it ...?

Dunno about younguys but i saw a lot of use of the mouse here
Will this work with the Lite version of Ableton? I checked their website and it says the Looper feature is available on all 3 product tiers.
