12 April 1961. I finally got to my mother's house, but she was not willing to see me, and the worker said she doesn't live here anymore. I knew she was staring at my back when I left the house, but I mustn't turn back. I only wanted to see how she looks like, but she did not give me the chance, neither would I give her.
I agree. Christopher Doyle really brings a lot to the table. He's able to capture the passion & the emotions from each and every scene. Us as viewers, capture every single drop of it oozing from the screens. The Wong Kar-Wai & Christopher Doyle collaboration is indeed brilliant !
Tragic things aside, the mansion interior is so beautiful and Tita Munoz (the mother) did a superb job despite only a few seconds in this scene. The aura of his mother is so powerful yet conveyed depth in less than 10 seconds.
@plqskoo you are so right. for me, it was with my father. This movie, helped me get over it, thank god. I don't know how anyone can think this was the greatest moment in movie history
W końcu dotarłem do domu mojej matki. Nie chiała mnie jednak zobaczyć... Służąca powiedziała, że tu jej nie ma. Odchodząc czułem na sobie jednak czyjeś spojrzenie... Ale byłem zdeterminowany żeby się nie odwrócić. Chciałem ją zobaczyć, chociaż raz. Spojrzeć jej w twarz. Nie dała mi tej szansy. Ja nie dam jej również.

He walks and the camera follows just the back of him.... but we can surely see his face. It's a priceless act!
He’s angry and crying
I almost cried during this scene, the best of the film for sure, seing his face without seeing it.

I love that scene, the song and the way the pace slows.
i agree this is the best scene of the movie.
Won Kar Wai, genius
This scene moved me into tears, indeed.
Poetry written with images!
Such a simple scene, yet it is able to convey so much. Driven by emotion, this sequence is such a great storytelling feat.
They played the part of him walking in the forest at Leslie Cheung's funeral after he killed himself. So tragic and sad :(

one of the most perfect scene's in film, up there with the ending of Godfather!

Best scene indeed.

@ratchadapalazzo I have watched all the movies made by Wong Kar Wai. Alot of it however owes much to Chris Doyle the cinematographer.
the man just uploaded this video with a profile picture of the scene and disappeared
What music seconds 40?. Thank
Always in my heart
