I never heard and never will hear anything like this ever again. there is so much musical detail in this one. the sadness of beauty is expressed musically and lyrically to its fullest. what an outstanding performance.
The arranger's harmonic imagination is sensational. And so is the group's tuning. Those complex chords and suspensions are just thrilling when sung by these musical perfectionists. Unreal!
@@pedrosoares2253 Not the more complex of the song (in my opinion) but yes beautiful. I think about a Dm 9 11 : D F C E G (leave a 10th between D and F).
This group came to my college during my freshman year at Goshen College. I was blown away because #1- the acoustics in the college were outstanding, especially since it was a relatively small college, and #2- how their voices ringed off of the walls of the halls when they sang was breathtaking. So mesmerizing!
Just saw them last night in Jenison. They are sooo amazing. When they sang, the entire room was silent. You could see little kids, staring with awe. You could see old men and women crying as they listened. It was beautiful. I can't believe I was lucky enough to see them.
This version of the song is purely amazing! While most versions are cheap covers, and somebody taking too much artistic license with the original, you've actually managed to add to the song, without taking anything away from it, as well as nailing the true emotion behind it. Absolutely beautiful!
So very true and well stated Jason, I was looking for a rendition of this beautiful standard to play lead guitar to, Something with true emotion and depth of soul, yet pure and innocent. This was breathtaking, and from watching & studying the faces from honored guests that were in attendance for this, the tears began to flow. I knew I had found the perfect piece to play along with quietly in the background. Absolutely beautiful as you stated, and timeless as a whisper in the wind....
Lyric There was a boy A very strange, enchanted boy They say he wandered very far Very far, over land and sea A little shy and sad of eye But very wise was he And then one day One magic day he passed my way While we spoke of many things Fools and Kings This he said to me: "The greatest thing you'll ever learn Is just to love and be loved in return" "The greatest thing you'll ever learn Is just to love and be loved in return"
I first learned this song in the late 50 and thought no one could sing it as good as Nat King Cole. Boy was I wrong! This rendition is beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing. Take Care, Dave
@@daveelmer I think the voice came more or less naturally, but reaching that level on the piano and create your own style take you a lifetime in dedication. Take care, Christer
This is exquisite. The black lead singer female voice is so well received. She favors the black actress and singer Lonette Mckee as to be like sisters. They don't need to be in a small pub doing this. They need to be in opera houses, because they are absolutely wonderful. What a divinely timeless and haunting melody that shall forever be ageless without flaw. ALL HAILS FROM THE MIDDLE EAST.
Ha! I made the same comment somewhere in these comments. (Or, since the audience are dear friends and family of the singers, they may have heard it enough times and been immune to feelings... I don't know, though, I've listened to this numerous times and gotten goose pimples and tears in my eyes every time!)

Truly magnificent. I absolutely adore the group's harmony . I've followed Emma's wonderful voice ever since Her and Laid's contribution to the Hed Kandi cd.
This is my favorite vocal group, since the absence of Singers Unlimited. I have many of TRG's cds and I've witnessed the personnel change through the years, but the quality and absolute perfection of singing the song is still top drawer. This group nails it .... really!!!
Chills, this is the best cover of this song I have ever heard ...and maybe the most moving Acapella piece ever to grace my ears as well. Amazing arrangement 🙌🏼
This is a great version of this song. It was written by a "proto hippie" who lived under the "Hollywood" sign up in the hills of Griffith Park here in Los Angeles with his family. Hauntingly beautiful, short and sweet. I love Nat King Cole's version, I'm singing it tomorrow and hope to do it justice, it's just a wonderful melody and sentiment.
The human voice is the most beautiful instrument. It truly is connected to the heart. The Real Group is outstanding.

Right?? I mean, what is that levitating sensation that 1:16 chord gives me?

Hey, thanks mate! Well , maybe it's not the most complex but sure is the one that brings the most complex 'nasty face' from me... Uff!
It's obviously for the whole, but for me is that 1:16 harmony that sends me off the roof... uuuff 🥲

Simply Beautiful. Nat King Cole would be proud to hear this arrangement.

Do you know that it was written for Nat Cole by Eban Ahbez.. his is quite a story.
This must be the twentieth time I see this. I am still moved beyond belief. The middle part is incredible.
Sveinung Marvik I agree
Found this to be one of my favorites.
One of my favorite groups on the planet. Absolutely gorgeous
My son loved this song and definitely understood the higher law of love. Beautiful harmonies. Nat King Cole made it classic jazz back when.

Don't forget that Nat Cole was also an amazing playful piano player.

So happy you shared that.. me too, but in the kitchen reaching for the Kleenex.
This is nearly 10 years old but loving it more every time I listen to it.
Just THANK YOU Real Group for being and singing and sharing it!

It is their family
