That turned out great. When I was young we had a set of knives like this one. They had a cream colored handle like ivory. what you did there really made it pop. Nice work...

How do I unhandle an old vintage butter knife without damaging the handle? I'm looking to rehandle a vintage butter knife because the handle became damaged and want to use one from another knife (also a vintage butter knife), how do I get it off without damaging it? Any advice? Cheers.

To be honest I'm not sure but you could try very very hot water

@@TobyFireandSteel Yep that worked a total charm, really solid advice there. I recommend this also to anyone else who might come across this comment, although make sure you hold the handle in boiling water for a good 7-10 minutes first to loosen it enough to twist off. Hats mate, hats.

nicely done! Can't beat that old style knife for spreading the good stuff! I was looking for some guidance on removing an even older style handle from a Sheffield knife. Likely mid 19th Century. Old cow rib bone handle with a pin. Really great steel. Razor sharp. I think they used a bitumen product to grab the tang, then pinned it. But I found your channel and subscribed! Looks fun!

Awesome cheers bud. Id personally hit it with a hammer mate and the blow torch or grind the adhesive off bud. Thanks for subscribing

@@TobyFireandSteel my first try is to save the original handle. It was put in the dishwasher! Ugh! Next is to go your route! I'll let you know.

Sounds scary dude. Can I ask if you're wanting to keep the handle why are you removing it bud?

@@TobyFireandSteel Some one put this old knife in the dishwasher! The bone handle split and it has a monogram on it, family heirloom thing, I hoped to pull the handle, glue it and put it back on again. Maybe...Perhaps...? Knocking the brass pin should be simple. Then? These old Cutlers were amazing!

Lucky you took it easy on its maiden voyage on the western star you wouldn’t want a blowout lol 😂

Your buttering technique seemed very lacking but you still didn't break through the bread....so maybe it's my technique that is lacking.....
